Good integrated product
What do you like best about the product?
A lot of schematic symbols and PCB footprints. Good error checking at schematic and layout level. Good routing helpers.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can't recall one. If one goes into the flow, design process is quite straightforward.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
MCU based product design. Fully integrated system.
Sr Electronics design engineer
What do you like best about the product?
Easy integration of distributor parts into the schematic, good IPC footprint wizard, intuitive and simple PCB tools, nice useful 3D viewer and good CAD format compatibilities for import/export.
What do you dislike about the product?
Random bugs that get introduced into each new versions - usually stuff that worked previously ok.
E.g. print PDF schematics in one version hides all power nets and designators. Or changing the shortcuts and ctrl usage with new versions, so when working with different versions it slows you down

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mixed signal (analog-digital) PCBs with FPGA/ARM or other. Benefits are differential and single length tuning for high speed signals (e.g. LVDS), good room copy for multiple channel design, inner planes formation and automatic connection. The tools generally work well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You cannot go wrong with this one!
Very, very disappointing
What do you like best about the product?
Nice graphical userinterface. Old versions from years ago were very productive, recent versions are crap.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lots of new functionality that does not work, is very buggy and breaks the functions that used to work in older versions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly fighting with the tool, instead of doing productive work with the tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look elsewhere, Altium will not be able to solve the chaos that was created by software designers that did not understand the inner data structures.
It is much useful for defining BOMs
What do you like best about the product?
Design adaptation from PCB schematic to layout
What do you dislike about the product?
Crashes sometimes, poor component library for mosfets
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Schematic and design issues
Altium
What do you like best about the product?
I like that Altium has so many parts and octopart.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find it hard to renumber the pcb design.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working with mechanical team is much better with step models.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Altium is easy to use. Once you have the rules set designs turn out great.
Very handy software
What do you like best about the product?
Linking schematic to pcb layout is a very powerful instrument.
What do you dislike about the product?
A fully detailed tutorial on the working of vault is missing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A significative worktime reduction
I build few prototype boards and perform some simulations also
What do you like best about the product?
In my opinion the most important is how many possibilities gives us Altium, from building project to perform some simulations up to board configuration.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes was hard to find proper library with layouts for components
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Basically I use Altium to design electronic boards. Sometimes I also check and perform simultions of my boards
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Please be patient :)
My week with Altium Designer
What do you like best about the product?
Learning Altium is quite easy. It is very intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
IBIS simulation tool requires some work. There has to be some sort of very easy-to-setup schematic-like IBIS simulation tool that I can quiclly upload IBIS model and simulate to see if I requier termination. Signal integrity tools in Altium, in my opinion, are not even documented really well. There also has to be some sort of tutorial explaining how to use it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I only used it for reallya brief amount of time as I don't have a license. However, I would be happy to use it in my design which includes is a mixed domain system. Analof simulation is not really my concern, but signal integrity is.
Having BOM tools also very useful for manufacturing.
Having BOM tools also very useful for manufacturing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Signal integrity tools need some improvements, mainly because of it's very difficult to use.
easy to develop
What do you like best about the product?
strong tools and really good gui after 18.
What do you dislike about the product?
database libraries are slow. sometimes shortcuts fail.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
it makes work more professional
Powerful tool for electronics products design
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, good support for sch, pcb and libraries, good rule check.
What do you dislike about the product?
Change from popup menu to side menu (in AD18)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Easy length match tuning, power plane define, high speed & impedance control...
Recommendations to others considering the product:
AD is powerful tool for electronics design with a lot of documentation and user guides, online tutorials etc. AD is also user friendly and easy to use.
