Aptible is an effective & compliant partner for a digital health startup
What do you like best about the product?
At Ria Health we have our core mission, providing the most effective tech-enabled treatment for Alcohol Use Disorder, and then many critical sub-tasks that go in to succeeding in that mission. Aptible's service offering solves one of those critical sub-tasks, providing HITRUST compliant, secure, and scalable production operations on top of AWS. Aptible has architected its services cleanly and operated them consistently, and as a result Aptible has allowed us to focus on the unique aspects of Ria's problem set while delivering high quality and secure services to our patients.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some common processes on Aptible, like releasing a new Docker image to production, go through a general release process that always feels like it takes too long (20-25 minutes). Lower latency would be better!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Aptible provides us with HITRUST compliant, secure, and scalable production operations on top of AWS.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
- If compliance is not an important part of your business strategy then you should look at cheaper alternatives.
- If compliance is a important to you then Aptible will cleanly solve a subset of your compliance problem set.

Good
What do you like best about the product?
Aptible support is great, knowledgeable and speedy responses. The platform as a whole is very reliable.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would *really* like access to gateway logs.
Occasional discrepancies between options in UI and CLI, e.g. for creating new redis databases, resizing postgres database, etc.
Docker caching does not perform the way I expect it to, resulting in some builds taking much longer than expected.

What do you dislike about the product?
It's not cheap given AWS increasing capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Turn key HIPAA compliance in the cloud
Great experience

Great solution
What do you like best about the product?
Incredible easy to deploy, manage, and troubleshoot applications through the command line utilities.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can sometimes be difficult to access the application logs from a historical point.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
HIPAA compliance is the biggest benefit.
Compliance and ease of use, in one nice package
What do you like best about the product?
Aptible offers a really easy to use set of features on top of AWS, making our lives managing HIPAA-compliant cloud services much easier. Deploying new builds is a snap, and the set of features supporting hosting is robust. It has hugely increased our ability to innovate and stay inside regulatory lines.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Aptible documentation is sparse. There are items that cover most topics, but we often have to dive out of the site to other places to learn more about how to proceed. The missing pieces are minor (I always find them), but with a bit more effort, it could be much more helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
HIPAA-compliant hosting for healthcare clients. Our biggest benefits are speed of deployment, and comfort that our environment is secure.
Excellent service for a company starting out in health tech
What do you like best about the product?
Incredible support. Feeling of assurance that we're doing devops right for our medical members. Well thought out tools. Reliability.
What do you dislike about the product?
The walled garden — feeling like the services are fairly isolated from and distinct from some wider AWS features that are quite useful like SQS, SES, and broader IAM strategies. Lack of an orchestration layer (e.g., Kubernetes).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We built the PoC of our data synching platform and our app-centric API. Realized 1.5 years of stable systems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Perfect if you're working in a medical setting, but would otherwise be using something like Heroku.
Impressive platform for secure scalability.
What do you like best about the product?
It just works. Nice UI to setup components and environments which eliminates the complexity of setting up and managing AWS directly. Allows me to worry about the code instead of the underlying deployment infrastructure. The support staff has been great at responding to incidents and proactively taking measures to ensure our application remains available. The CLi tools are well documented when these operations are required (setting configuration, database tunneling, manual deployments). Having it based on git deployments helps with our existing workflow and inherently provides another remote backup location in case of disaster recovery.
Docker has been equally nice to have in that each application components only needs what it needs to operate leaving much less on the server to worry about in terms of vulnerabilities (that we had with our dedicated server). These containers have proven to be very fast and their zero-downtime deployments are critical to our continuous integration process.

What do you dislike about the product?
Getting started with Docker was a little tough, they do not provide much support on setting up the actual Docker & Proc files based on your requirements, but as time has gone on, its become easier and I've gotten good support on setting up additional modules.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Scalability. We went from a dedicated server to a multi-component HIPAA-compliant infrastructure. This has helped streamline our devops and helps with the sales and marketing aspects of selling a health sensitive related application.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great for smaller startups who need HIPAA-compliancy and a scalable cloud-based infrastructure but do not have the resources internally to maintain people on staff. If you are looking at running containers but don't know exactly how the orchestration works, this is a better, easier alternative than Heroku
Good experience so far of using Aptible
What do you like best about the product?
HIPAA compliance is the first priority for our organization and Aptible has been providing this very well to us.
What do you dislike about the product?
The yearly costing is bit on a higher side.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are hosting our servers on Aptible that provides us HIPAA compliance
