A good management tool for development tasks.

  • November 22, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jira is a useful tool aimed at organizing and keeping track of dev activities in a company. It lets you create a specific project and report issues, bugs and other tasks with ease adding them into the project backlog. You can set a priority and a sprint for each task in order to better organize your workflow. Users can easily upgrade the task status, add a description, comments or attachments.

When editing a task, the involved users will get an updating email. The application offers reports and insights related to the various tasks and sprints to better monitor development progresses. You can also compare the performances of the different users.
What do you dislike about the product?
It isn't as immediate as other work management tools. However, after a first learning period, you will get used to it. The different views let you quickly search and find reports, assigned tasks, and more.

Each report can only be assigned to a single user. Other users can be added only to subtasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As part of a team, Jira helps me effectively organizing my work according to the needs of the whole team. Also, it facilitates the communication between different teams of the same company speeding up the implementation process of new features or services.

JIRA met the business needs but was not intuitive or user friendly

  • November 19, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ticket request form fields and set up is customizable to your team's needs and JIRA offers users a number of plug ins that will connect with other Atlassian tools, including Confluence (and coming soon they promise Trello). One can successfully get what they need accomplished, using tags, watching, and moving tickets. The customizable workflows are a great way to set the tool up for any work process and this helped us get up and running with our user request tickets quicker than I would have imagined when we started the process.
What do you dislike about the product?
The look and feel of the user interface is not intuitive or user friendly - I often find it confusing and the flow of navigating from one thing to the next, or back to a higher-level view of my project's status is clunky. I would like to see it be streamlined with more simplistic visuals and a clearer workflow. As well, when the custom form was built, I find the breaking up (and ability for anyone to edit) frustrating - it's very difficult to get a comprehensive view of what the request is at a glance.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used JIRA as a request intake platform, a system to track tickets after request, and to communicate with end users about the status and timeline of the work they requested. Organizationally, we moved to a different platform but it was a good change. We were able to successfully take in and track requests, set up our own workflow, and complete tickets.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If enjoyment of UI and ease of flow through the daily use of the tool is less important (as it can be with some developers), JIRA is likely to meet your nneds.
