Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT for Windows (BYOL)
Automated file transfers have simplified integrations and improved secure data workflows
What is our primary use case?
I am a distributor. We deal with Solpac Thailand and Solpac Japan, and for types of companies that I usually recommend, GoAnywhere MFT is my choice. We have many partners, but the main partner is Fortra, which features I find most valuable in GoAnywhere MFT.
What is most valuable?
We have integrated with some requirements for services such as Salesforce, SharePoint, and Microsoft Dynamics because customers needed integration with SharePoint or SAML single sign-on.
The range of connectors that GoAnywhere MFT provides out-of-the-box is very valuable because you can easily set up and connect and integrate with SharePoint.
My customers make use of GoAnywhere Agents.
What needs improvement?
For now, I think GoAnywhere MFT can be improved because the admin portal has some monitors and admin features. Some log details cannot be shown because we have to use the terminal to access logs and read through XML. If it were possible to show this on the admin console, it would be better.
Because of the time difference between Thailand and the USA, the initial setup could be improved regarding technical support. When we have a request, the time zones do not match. We need to schedule and check and try to confirm when they have a time that matches with Thailand.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been dealing with GoAnywhere MFT for approximately 16 years.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate the after-sales service from Fortra at four stars on a five-star scale. Their technical support receives a rating of four out of ten from me.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have experience with four products: MOVEit, Control-M, IBM Sterling, and HAF. GoAnywhere MFT is the best one for me because MOVEit does not have easy configuration and also has problems when installed on the cloud. HAF also presents configuration and interface that is not user-friendly. Control-M is always kept secretive, and technical aspects are not easy to learn independently. IBM Sterling is also not easy to use.
How was the initial setup?
Nothing is difficult about the initial setup, and deploying GoAnywhere MFT is easy. GoAnywhere MFT is simple to install, download, and access. Instructions are easy to obtain and download. There are also many videos available through YouTube and social media that everyone can access and learn from independently.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
In Thailand, GoAnywhere MFT is the only major player in managed file transfer, and I do not see any good competition to GoAnywhere MFT on the market because it is convenient for Thai people. MOVEit and HAF are not real competitors. Control-M MFT is also not a competitor. When we compare all functions, GoAnywhere MFT is the best choice for customers.
What other advice do I have?
Sometimes customers use Secure Form for making questionnaires to get customer responses when they have registered the application through Secure Form.
We often use GoFast because customers need to transfer large files through a network from one location to another, and they use GoFast to accelerate data transmission.
Because GoFast uses UDP protocol, it has affected some operations differently from TCP protocol. Some customers think UDP is unsecured and cannot track transactions. However, GoAnywhere MFT has special features to make UDP stable. Customers can track transactions that are transferred through UDP, and with GoAnywhere MFT, UDP can use hashing to verify data from the original source.
Some customers use Secure Form, though not extensively. In Thailand, customers have in-house developed electronic forms.
The price is reasonable because GoAnywhere MFT is flexible and can apply to customer work scenarios. It has a friendly interface and is easy to understand. GoAnywhere MFT is no-coding; you just use GoAnywhere MFT workflow and nodes without coding.
Sometimes, when presenting GoAnywhere MFT to small and medium-sized companies in Thailand, they only want to use GoAnywhere MFT for transferring data but do not need to use certified certificates. These companies are not focused on security; they just want to use managed file transfer with automation. However, GoAnywhere MFT has specific security features. If a company does not need to apply security into the system, they may think GoAnywhere MFT functionality is expensive. The GoAnywhere MFT license is expensive for companies that only want to use file transfer without security.
If we can choose what to improve, it is the monitoring, and I have already mentioned that the monitoring and technical support could be improved as well. I would rate this review nine out of ten.
Automated secure file exchanges have transformed daily workflows and simplified SFTP processes
What is our primary use case?
My usual use cases for GoAnywhere MFT are for automatic processes with SFTP.
What is most valuable?
The features and capabilities of GoAnywhere MFT that I have found most valuable are the projects that allow us to build different templates with extensive customization. We can customize the entire project as needed and create if-else statements in any way we would like to find any pattern or different words inside files, archive them, and unzip them. There is a very flexible and extended way to automate processes exactly the way we are looking for.
A benefit I have seen over the two years that I have been working with GoAnywhere MFT is that we can use the MFT as a parameter between our customers and our company, and we can automate all processes with file exchange and sending files through GoAnywhere MFT. It is easy and automating a lot of processes and work. Using it with different customers via PGP allows us to encrypt and unencrypt all the traffic, which is very convenient and helpful.
What needs improvement?
Regarding the reporting about the logs, sometimes there is too much information. When looking for the exact way to find and troubleshoot different errors, the log can be very difficult to understand because there is a lot of information. When you have a log on a job that has a lot of files that have failed, there is a lot of data on one page, and it becomes more complicated to troubleshoot it and understand exactly the reason why it failed.
An example of an issue I had is that we experienced a problem where the agent service took a lot of time to start after a restart. We had a huge delay on the servers applying. I think that is an area where GoAnywhere MFT can improve itself, particularly regarding how it manages all the paths via the file server on the agent server.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with GoAnywhere MFT for almost two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The reliability and stability aspects of GoAnywhere MFT are very good. The platform is very stable if you maintain the infrastructure in the right way with proper change management and configuration management.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Regarding the level of scalability of GoAnywhere MFT, I do not really see scalability because it depends on the architecture and how many servers are deployed for the platform. About the jobs and the projects within the platform, I do not see a lot of scalability. You are creating a job and transferring files via SFTP, and that is it.
How are customer service and support?
I communicate with the technical support of GoAnywhere MFT sometimes, depending on the issue. We are using BullWall for integration, so they are our support, and I am not speaking directly with GoAnywhere MFT. Their support is excellent. Overall, I would rate the technical support on a scale of one to ten as nine because there is always room for improvement.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before GoAnywhere MFT, the company used CyberArk, but it was before my time.
How was the initial setup?
GoAnywhere MFT was already integrated when I started working here. I did not participate in the initial setup or deployment.
What was our ROI?
From my perspective, I have seen tangible benefits, including return on investment, but it depends on the use case. Our company has hundreds of jobs that we are automating and there are a lot of gigabits of files that we are transferring and receiving. The benefit is obvious because doing that via other ways, especially on-premise, would be more difficult. I do not know exactly the price, but the benefit for us is huge.
What other advice do I have?
I do not make use of GoAnywhere MFT's connectors for services such as Salesforce, SharePoint Online, Dynamics 365, or other services. The range of connectors that GoAnywhere MFT provides out of the box is probably good, but except for SFTP and a few jobs that we are using via HTTPS, we are not using any other connector. We may use another connector in the future, but only for a CDR platform, such as Opswat.
The importance of GoAnywhere MFT's connectors to my operations is significant as it is a production platform. All the connectors and all the ways we are using SFTP are production systems. If it becomes unavailable, there will be significant consequences for our company.
We have divided the environment between the DMZ for the MFT and the agent. The importance of GoAnywhere MFT's agents in enabling me to extend MFT automation to remote systems is that this is the core component for connecting to all NFS and file servers. Essentially, it is the core component for sending and receiving files into our company and has a huge impact as a core component within our architecture.
I do not use GoAnywhere MFT's secure forms. I do not use the GoFast feature to accelerate data transmission. I do not know if GoAnywhere MFT has saved me time in connecting securely with the third parties I need to collaborate with because there is all the negotiation about IPs, certificates, and usernames. However, it is easy today to set up a basic template to exchange with a third party or a client, and in the world of SFTP, there is not too much configuration to do for the initial connection.
My overall review rating for GoAnywhere MFT is eight.
Best ever, better than Globalscape
Game-Changing Automation That Streamlines Workflows and Boosts Productivity
Secure file transfers have improved compliance and streamlined automated workflows
What is our primary use case?
GoAnywhere MFT use cases include transferring files, using a gateway, and implementing anti-malware scanning to avoid malicious files. We are also engaged in security compliance-related work and using automation features.
In my project, I am utilizing template-based scenarios to reuse templates for standard patterns in internal and external file transfers. I also use cloud-based connectors and other features like AWS and Azure agents to operate on-premises. Those features are quite helpful.
I use GoAnywhere MFT connectors for internal connectivity within the organization and during SFTP connections with third parties, employing SFTP Gate and SFTP Put Task, which are very easy to use through a drag-and-drop mechanism. GoAnywhere MFT's connectors are very important to us.
The range of connectors that GoAnywhere MFT provides out of the box is very wide. In my current business scenario, I utilize it for SharePoint, which is very useful. I also use the OAuth connector to connect before the actual SharePoint site.
I am using GoAnywhere MFT Secure Forms, which are quite useful for changing various kinds of passwords and credentials. I can use GoAnywhere MFT Secure Forms for bank-related transactions, enabling users to change resource client credentials such as access key, SAS token, or Entra ID client secret details. If users are aware of existing credentials, they can directly manage credential changes without needing middleman interference.
Some business units are using GoAnywhere MFT's GoFast feature to transfer files quickly, leveraging its inbuilt protocol for faster transfers as needed.
What is most valuable?
The best features in GoAnywhere MFT from my perspective include its user browser-based interface and good UI to monitor the latest logs, audit logs for HTTPS, and SFTP services.
GoAnywhere MFT has saved us time in securely connecting with necessary third parties, maintaining security during transport at rest or in transit, for which there are no complaints from the compliance team.
I utilize multiple automations and processes within the organization that run on different platforms, employing various API tools like WSO2 and ServiceNow, integrating thoroughly and reusing resources as much as possible.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see improvements in the monitor-related functionalities of GoAnywhere MFT, especially when network outages occur, as I often need to manually restart agent services due to stalled connections that do not automatically pick up files.
I would like to see enhancements related to end-to-end integration in GoAnywhere MFT. Currently, transactionality is not being handled effectively; I can only transfer from one point to another, and some businesses request reverting changes if a particular transaction does not commit.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with GoAnywhere MFT since the last five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
From a stability perspective, I would rate GoAnywhere MFT about a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is around 7.5 for GoAnywhere MFT because there are restrictions based on file sizes for transfers, necessitating chunking to move complete files, which limits its effectiveness in data migration.
How are customer service and support?
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate GoAnywhere MFT's customer service and technical support around an eight, as I have not had many chances to interact directly with the Fortra team due to regional constraints, and sometimes responses during production issues are a bit delayed.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used IBM MqMFT and TIBCO MFT prior to adopting GoAnywhere MFT.
How was the initial setup?
The setup process for GoAnywhere MFT is straightforward, as I had training that made installation easy, although I occasionally needed to re-architect some framework flows for mainframe services, which took time.
What about the implementation team?
GoAnywhere provided one engineer to assist with setup when I experienced issues, especially since I was using it with a financial client in the insurance sector.
What was our ROI?
I find GoAnywhere MFT to be a cost-effective tool for mid-sized organizations, with no issues in that regard.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing for GoAnywhere MFT seems to have changed. Earlier, it was more accessible for mid-sized organizations, but I understand that with the extensive features provided, it has become the number one MFT tool.
What other advice do I have?
GoAnywhere MFT is open-source and offers an easy-to-use, browser-based interface, with quick installation for other organizations through GoAnywhere MFT Agent installables. However, in contrast to IBM, which excels in security perspectives related to clustering, GoAnywhere MFT might lack some features needed for bank transactions, like active-active load balancing.
I would be interested in a solution that centralizes all of my products and processes.
A piece of advice I would share is to avoid creating a single point of failure when building or designing any solution. The design structure should ensure that if one primary server fails, the system should seamlessly switch to a secondary server, maintaining high availability at about 99.99%.
My overall rating for this product is nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Automated workflows have reduced manual file transfers and now securely connect many partners
What is our primary use case?
My use cases for GoAnywhere MFT are mainly to transfer our files securely and also to automate our workflows and manage the data exchanges between our internal and external systems.
What is most valuable?
One of the best features of GoAnywhere MFT is the automated workflow capability, allowing us to schedule our automated file transfers without any manual intervention. For a project, we can schedule a file, compress it if it's larger, and then at the scheduled event, when we upload it, it can automatically transfer to the SFTP server of our client. This automation reduces our manual intervention and minimizes the time and effort we spend on this task.
GoAnywhere MFT scales well and can support growing workloads, handling an increasing number of file transfers very well. Sometimes our file transfers are several GBs, and it manages those transfers effectively.
In my experience, GoAnywhere MFT is very stable. Once the configuration is properly done, it runs reliably and handles file transfers consistently without any issues.
The GoFast feature in GoAnywhere MFT is for high-speed and secure file transfers. Sometimes our files are very large, and using traditional protocols can lead to network latency, making it slow. GoFast optimizes the data movement for us.
What needs improvement?
The user interface could be more modern and intuitive. The learning curve is easy, but additional built-in templates or any integrations would make deployment even easier and faster.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using GoAnywhere MFT for around the last year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In my experience, GoAnywhere MFT is very stable. Once the configuration is properly done, it runs reliably and handles file transfers consistently without any issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
GoAnywhere MFT scales well and can support growing workloads, handling an increasing number of file transfers very well. Sometimes our file transfers are several GBs, and it manages those transfers effectively.
How are customer service and support?
I have not used the support for GoAnywhere MFT.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before using GoAnywhere MFT, we were using manual SFTP transfer and also WinSCP to transfer the files.
How was the initial setup?
The initial deployment of GoAnywhere MFT is very straightforward as it is a web-based solution for SFTP. Our effort mainly went into the projects, connections, and automating the connections. We are used to connecting to AWS S3 buckets and Azure Blob storages, so the setup effort was mainly focused on third-party vendors and cloud storage platforms, and that was very straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
GoAnywhere MFT does not require any significant maintenance on my end, as we only need to maintain ongoing jobs and schedules ourselves. We manage transfer jobs, monitors, partner connectors, and encryption key certificates, but apart from that, we do not need to manage anything.
What was our ROI?
I am not much aware of the pricing for GoAnywhere MFT, but I would say the ROI and the metrics of ROI would be greater in terms of the time and effort we were using for manual intervention without the automated workflow. It improves our productivity and reduces our operational overhead at a large scale, so the ROI I consider for that is very good.
What other advice do I have?
For connectors and integration capabilities in GoAnywhere MFT, we use connectors for cloud platforms such as AWS S3 and Azure Blob storage.
I am not much aware of whether those connectors are custom-made or included when we installed GoAnywhere MFT because I have not done this configuration. One of my colleagues handled it.
I am not much aware of GoAnywhere Agents. From what I know, agents are used to securely execute file transfer tasks on remote systems without exposing them directly to our network. They communicate with the central server to automate processes, mainly for remote servers.
I have not used Secure Forms, but there is some PGP encryption that secures our file transfers.
GoAnywhere MFT has saved us time in connecting securely with third parties. With GoAnywhere MFT, we can securely exchange files with several third-party systems and cloud platforms, reducing both our team's effort and our time to manage these SFTP, FTP, and HTTPS protocols for third-party vendors and systems.
We have multiple automations happening in our company, creating independent workflows we refer to as projects, which we schedule or trigger based on different events. For example, one automation might collect files from an internal server, while another uploads them to AWS S3. Simultaneously, someone would encrypt those files or transfer reports to partner SFTP servers, leading to multiple automations occurring at once.
Generally, we manage these different automations as projects. GoAnywhere MFT supports integration with different APIs, including REST and Web APIs, which we use mainly to interact with third-party applications.
I would give GoAnywhere MFT a rating of nine out of ten as it reduces manual intervention, automates various processes, and saves time, resulting in a better ROI for our company.
As far as I am aware, we are only a customer of GoAnywhere MFT.
