What do you like best about the product?
I have been working on Commvault last 1 year.
My experience with Commvault was very impressive because of its data protection capabilities. Commvault provides backup, recovery, and data management for physical & Virtual environments. It supports different types of platforms like Windows, Linux, VMware, AWS, and Azure. it will have the ability to scale up. CommVault is suit.It has features like routine backup and recovery, making all tasks easier for IT teams to manage data protection. If we talk about performance then it provides very good performance in terms of backup speed, recovery time & resources utilization.able for all sizes of business.
What do you dislike about the product?
User interface sometimes clutters.
For smaller businesses, cost was a major barrier.
Commvault has different licenses for different features like backup, recovery, deduplication, and cloud integration.

Commvault Cloud is designed to address several key challenges in data management and protection, particularly for organizations managing large volumes of data in increasingly complex IT environments.Businesses face the challenge of securely protecting their data from loss, corruption, or ransomware attacks, especially as data volumes increase.Commvault Cloud offers comprehensive data backup, disaster recovery, and data retention strategies for cloud environments. It automates data protection, ensuring that critical data is backed up and recoverable at any time.You gain peace of mind knowing your data is safe and can be quickly recovered in case of an emergency, reducing downtime and the risk of losing valuable information.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the Appranix solution as well as the AD recovery
What do you dislike about the product?
I am still trying to keep my current infrastructure dedicated to backups and incorporate some of the cloud offerings like Appranix and AD backup. It would be great if there was a cohesive way of approaching this setup.

Easy to find the clients and how configure them. The support is also good.

there are still some features that are in Java but not on Cloud

Simplicity of setting up new backups and managing existing configuration. flexibility. Great support when we need it.

I did not have any bad experiences with the software so far and everytime we needed to perform any function, it was working as expected

We had issues backup up user data of employees that left the orginasation, Onedrive backup solved that issue for us. The software also work very well with our Azure server backups

The granularity and customizations. Limitless configurations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Support for one. Recently, its become very difficult to get proper support. The reporting tools are extremely difficult to use, often resulting in just a "wall of text" with no context or what anything means. The aging of backups, if you misconfigure or walk into a pre-set CV can be extremely difficult to recover space or get rid of backups that are not needed. Not very intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
None at this point. We're out of space in the cloud, backups aren't occuring and basically support sends us to a report that we can't seem to figure out.

Some features are still missing from the onprem version. like the ability to select copy precedence in Database restores

Efficient data backups with room for enhanced monitoring and support
What is our primary use case?
We have used the Commvault solution to take mobile backups from our client locations. We had multiple data sites where data was not scattered in a distributed mode, and we utilized the Commvault client with all the users.
We started collecting data from their machines to the centralized server. We especially used Commvault to back up Outlook and flat files, as well as databases like MS SQL and SQL using native services. For other databases, we used Commvault.
How has it helped my organization?
The solution saved us a lot of time, effort, and manpower. It helped us back up remote locations where it is difficult to reach.
It also enabled us to take backups from all clients efficiently. The implementation of Commvault is very easy, especially if it's deployed on machines within the same network.
What is most valuable?
The feedback from users was phenomenal as they did not encounter any problems with backups, whether from Outlook or other data such as flat files and databases.
The functionality and features of Commvault were much better compared to other solutions.
What needs improvement?
Commvault could improve in the area of monitoring and notification services. Upon backup completion, the user is not getting notifications. This might be a feature I'm missing within the system. If it’s not there, Commvault should enhance this functionality.
Additionally, customer support should be improved for quicker real-time assistance, considering the time zone challenges.
How are customer service and support?
In the past, support has been phenomenal, and the people at Commvault have been very supportive.
However, recently, due to time zone differences, it has taken a lot of time to connect in real time with support staff. There is an issue in finding customer support services within India.
How would you rate customer service and support?
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Commvault is slightly more expensive than similar solutions. We observed a pricing range of 15% to 17% more.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We have evaluated other solutions in the market, but due to the functionalities and features offered by Commvault, we opted to use it despite the higher price.
What other advice do I have?
I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.
