Enables users to store unlimited data on the cloud
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
I like the Metallic Endpoint feature. Whoever has an Endpoint license can store unlimited data on the cloud. Commvault provides unlimited restoration for free. Other products have a limit on restoration. When we cross the limit, we must pay for restoration.
What needs improvement?
The product does not provide an option to save a copy of data on-premises.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for three to five months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the tool’s stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. We have three to five customers using the tool.
How are customer service and support?
Whenever we raise a ticket, the support personnel connects with us at the exact time that they committed to. I can rate the support team a ten out of ten without a doubt.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The on-premise solution is a lengthy one to configure. We can deploy the solution in three to four clicks, though. The product is purely cloud-based.
What about the implementation team?
To deploy the tool, we must authenticate our email ID on Commvault. Then, we will get a link from which we need to generate a username and password. Once we enter that username and password, we'll get a region of the cloud where we need to configure the storage tool.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is worth the money. Depending on the customer’s feasibility, they pay for the license every year or every three years. The evaluation is given for 30 to 90 days, which has to be paid.
What other advice do I have?
A sales manager, a technical manager, a COO, one of my colleagues, and I handle Commvault in our company. Overall, I rate the tool a nine out of ten.
Best Tool for managing our data
Great Reliable Mail Backup Solution
It has been a pleasure working with Commvault
A stable solution for Red Hat Linux
What is our primary use case?
Commvault is an enterprise-level backup solution that can use multiple agents at various sites. We have many customers, including banks and hospitals.
What is most valuable?
Commvault is a stable solution for Red Hat Linux.
What needs improvement?
It takes a lot of steps to implement backups. We have to do a lot of planning to make the solution work properly. It takes some time to create every policy. It's an easy task, but there are many steps. It's not as easy as using Veeam.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Commvault for nine months as a supporting engineer.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate Commvault eight out of 10 for stability.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up Commvault is complex and it involves many steps. After you configure the storage, you need to set your client's policies and add a proxy server if necessary.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I prefer selling Commvault to enterprises. It's appropriate for a company that has a headquarters plus four or five offices. It isn't ideal for a small business. The price is okay if you have the budget of a large enterprise. Aside from the license, the only additional cost is cloud fees if you are using cloud infrastructure.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Commvault Backup and Recovery 10 out of 10. I would recommend Commvault if a company has huge backup needs and a sufficient budget. If the price isn't an issue, you shouldn't compromise.
Offers unlimited backup
What is our primary use case?
We have used Metallic to offer a package of services to some of our clients along with Nutanix. One of our clients just started using it for Mac agents. They purchased approximately 35 licenses.
What is most valuable?
One valuable feature is unlimited backup. You can back up existing users and folders.
What needs improvement?
You can't change Metallic's retention policies without contacting the Commvault support team. We can only change the scheduling within a certain window, like four hours. Restoration also takes a long time. The hypervisor capabilities are also limited in terms of backing up across cloud platforms. For example, if we are taking a backup in Azure and want to switch the backup to AWS, it will take some time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have worked with Metallic for about a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate Metallic seven out of 10 for stability. The backup and restoration takes some time, and you get some errors when installing a package.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Metallic is a scalable solution. Its primary benefit is unlimited backup for endpoint users. However, not all clients purchase that.
How was the initial setup?
Deploying Metallic isn't complex. You only need to install the onboarding agent. It took approximately half an hour the first time. You have to download the agent package from the console itself and deploy it on the endpoint. You need to put in the login credentials. It will ask for the email ID and password.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Metallic eight out of 10. I recommend using the console instead of the web interface. It's much easier to use.
Provides good stability and has efficient data optimization features
What is our primary use case?
We use the Commvault for data optimization because it maintains enough data. We have implemented it to run two incremental backups per day and a full backup at the end of the week. We also perform the restoration of the database and DR servers, using it.
What is most valuable?
Commvault is a software-based solution that can manage backups to any storage and VMs. It integrates redundant storage and preserves jams in a storage area, providing up to 70% compression rate. Backups of large volumes do not take much time to complete. It also facilitates restoring Oracle data, which can be opened directly to a database after restoration without any user intervention.
What needs improvement?
There are still a lot of ways to improve the recruitment process. Commvault deployment is executed remotely, but managing their support on time is difficult. They reply to the support portal weekly, but there are some delays.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Commvault Backup & Recovery as a customer for around two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is good. I rate the product’s stability an eight out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
There is some gap in technical support, but it is good. Restoration happens only when there is a disaster. In that case, customers always expect the solution providers to be present. They regularly go through the update process and release updates frequently.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy. Integrating the database and server for clients might be difficult. The deployment does not take much time. However, changing advanced features or integration may take some time. Once the software and backups are ready, it will take seven to ten days to complete. You may need more people involved in the deployment if you have many servers. A team of two to three people is usually sufficient, including a deployment engineer from Commvault and two to three executives on the client side. I rate the process a six or seven out of ten.
What was our ROI?
The product generates a good return on investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate the product’s pricing a five out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
They should decide to go for Commvault Backup & Recovery or another solution depending on the infrastructure requirement.
I rate it a seven out of ten.
We are now able to recover virtual machines without relying on the NFS system
What is our primary use case?
We now have the capability to recover a virtual machine without relying on the NFS system, but instead are able to use certain features provided by Commvault. This is why we've opted for Commvault over other technologies.
What needs improvement?
They could work on the implementation of the features.
For how long have I used the solution?
We will be using Commvault Backup & Recovery for the next 3 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Every three years, we require server updates to either embrace new technologies or enhance our existing technology stack. Therefore, our approach involves reevaluating and refreshing our infrastructure every three years, so we can’t comment on this solution as we have started fresh.
How are customer service and support?
We usually interact with integrators, however if the issue is complex, we refer to technicians for further support and guidance
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are consistently exploring new solutions for our systems, and each solution must align with our server requirements and other objectives. Our timing is also a key consideration, as we operate on a three-year cycle. We have worked with SAP, Oracle, and Cisco.
How was the initial setup?
The installation is complex.
What other advice do I have?
I can’t fully endorse it, because it depends on the final use of the customer. I would conservatively, rate it an eight out of ten.
A leading backup provider with easy configuration, manageability, and faster recovery
What is most valuable?
The solution has the fastest backup and better licensing.
What needs improvement?
Compared to Rubrik, MongoDB Data Protector, and NetBackup, Commvault is better. The licensing team was quite tricky recently because they stopped the unlimited files for that license. Commvault made a bank of 500GB only, a node-based license can take it, which is disappointing. Reporting needs to be more granular. Also, there should be a showback of data being backed up, and the backup cost to share the cost internally with the department.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Commvault HyperScale X as a customer. I have almost nine HyperScale nodes and expect four more nodes this year.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The product is scalable. To scale, we need to buy more agents. We’re using HP hardware for HyperScale. We’ve three backup administrators working with the solution.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support is interesting, but they need to work on their competency. My team is happy.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I work with a couple of other solutions, such as HP Store, Veeam, NetBackup, MongoDB Data Protector, and Rubrik. Commvault is the most competitive in the market because local support is easy and faster.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is easy to implement if you have a proper infrastructure and require two people to set up.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is bundled with hardware licensing. If I want to increase the hardware, I have to buy exactly the same because it's based on the core hardware license. We cannot tell discount because we have an NDA signed with Commvault because of my academic license. The solution is more expensive than NetBackup and Veeam but cheaper than Rubrik.
What other advice do I have?
The solution is easy to use after four months of training. Before implementing, make sure you negotiate well and agree to the terms and conditions in advance. Once you implement it, you will use it for at least the next five to six years. So, you must negotiate and file a contract, the best way to know the cost of ownership in the beginning itself. Overall, I rate the solution an eight-point five out of ten.
So complete and dynamic
Besides that, it gives data insight to make well-informed decisions.
Efficient storage (over 85% deduplication reduction), reliable restores and easy migrations between servers, hypervisors and the public cloud.
Also a great solution for your M365 data
