AWS Well-Architected Framework Review

The AWS Well-Architected Framework is a collection of AWS Best Practices across six pillars for designing and operating workloads in the AWS cloud:

  • Operational Excellence
  • Security
  • Reliability
  • Performance Efficiency
  • Cost Optimization
  • Sustainability

For each pillar, the Well-Architected Framework outlines specific Best Practices developed by AWS. In order to see how one of your workloads measures up to these AWS Best Practices, AWS has developed the Well-Architected Review Partner Program. Through this program, Cloudar is among a select few qualified AWS Partners that are allowed to lead AWS customers through the Well-Architected Review process using the AWS Well-Architected Tool.

How does it work?

The Cloudar Well-Architected Framework Review is a high-level check of a critical workload against the framework and is carried out by a Cloudar engineer who will work through a set of structured questions to establish alignment with best-practice recommended by AWS:

1. Preparation

Ahead of the review we like to arrange a 30-minute introductary call to confirm the scope of the workload and talk through the prerequisites. For the review itself, we will ask you to prepare or bring the following:

  • Any existing documentation on the design of this workload, including architecture diagrams
  • Access to the AWS account(s) in which the workload resides:
  • a whiteboard or similar

2. Well-Architected Framework Review Meeting/Workshop

The Well-Architected Framework Review is a 2-4 hour meeting which can be done via conference call or in-person. During this meeting, one of our Solution Architects will go through the Well-Architected Tool with the key stakeholders of the customer.

3. WAFR Report & follow-up

Shortly after the meeting, you will receive a PDF report of the outcome of the Well-Architected Framework Review. This PDF report will list out all High Risk and Medium Risk issues that were identified through the Well-Architected Framework Review. Cloudar will prepare a follow-up document which will include recommendations for remediating High Risk items in the review.

4. Remediations

If you agree to work with Cloudar to implement the improvements as highlighted in the WAFR Report, AWS will issue a $5,000 AWS service credit (1) once the improvements are implemented.
