CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates
CentOS.org | 6 - 2014-09-29Linux/Unix, CentOS 6 - 64-bit Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Clean OS without integration with Amazon
what's bad
- does not contain cloud-init, so you userdata will not play
- out of date, current release is 6.5 (1 December 2013), but this one is 6.4
- there more than 70 pending update after installation
- non standard user used, I will prefer ec2-user by default
what's good
- clean
- official CentOS

Not working with instance without EBS
Centos build is good enough by itself, but it is not working with the instance that has not EBS storage. That kind of instance instance stuck on launch.
Wanted CentOS 6.5, got 6.4 instead
Given that this is the most recent image from CentOS, I was expecting a CentOS 6.5 image. This is CentOS 6.4. At the very least, the description on this item could be clear about that.
Can't attach root volume as secondary volume
I would of said this was great but I have one issue with it which is quite major.
The problem I have is that if you need to detach the root volume and attach it to another instance as a secondary volume it will not allow you to do to it's marketplace settings.
You might one day need to access the root volume to fix a critical problem like forgotten password, iptables blocking access or DHCP not starting. To do this you might use a working instance and attach the root volume as a secondary volume so you can edit the root filesystem and fix this issue. Due to security constraints enabled (or not disabled) by the developer you can't do this.
