Stable Linux OS and top notch support

  • October 05, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Red Hat's vulnerability notifications. When they discover something that needs to be fixed, we are alerted right away.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing, RedHat provides everything that we needed to deploy our servers. If I HAD to say something bad about it, the licensing is a little tricky for first time users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have custom applications that run on ruby on rails. Having a supported and current OS is a must in today's world.

RHEL greatness

What do you like best about the product?
When it comes to RHEL what i enjoy is the overall support you get from the vendors. They are there what seems 24/7 to make sure you have everything you need to get the job done.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are times where there are slight issues when it comes to the training to be certified. They made some changes recently that caused confusion but they were able to get this explained.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With the the overall reporting has been a breeze compared to others.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Always make sure to keep up to date on news within the company.

Redhat review

  • October 03, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
RedHat Linux is widely used among many of my customers so it makes it easy for me to support my products. Their documentation is great so I can easily find what I need to resolve issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I don't like is the editting toosls, not necessarily because they're bad, but user error. I'm not very good with using them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work with customers to resolve communications issues. Benefits are the ease of use and great documentation they provide.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Keep up the good work. The product is great.

Exceptional Performance; Nearly Zero Downtime

What do you like best about the product?
What could be said about RHEL that hasn't already been said? Fanastic Linux distro with top-tier support and an incredible user community. This is one of the top used Distros in the world and while it is paid for, it is well worth the enterprise support received.
What do you dislike about the product?
Really nothing bad can be said about RHEL. If you are familiar with Linux and need the enterprise support and patching then this is the way to go. Perhaps, not so much a dislike, but worth nothing that companies that implement RHEL may require RHEL specific certifications before allowing you to touch the hardware, even if you are familiar with other distros.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data processing, patching, automation, development and much more. Everything is streamlined and efficient.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need the top-tier support that comes with RHEL then there is no reason not to consider switching. While other Distros may offer the same functionality, you will always have support when needed and patching when required.

Some applications like accounting databases requires some high level of knowledge to be properly implemented

No down time anymore
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Little bit of learning if you come from Windows Server, but well deserved.

A reboot pirates life for me

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to scale environment across both virtual and physical hardware. The support is also outstanding for what we currently have.
What do you dislike about the product?
Issues with migration from the classic support network have caised serious issues and delays for my engineering team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Old legacy systems that cannot or will not be supported are being moved over to red hat for a performance increase and high availability aspect.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it before you knock it, if you haven't tried it I am not quite sure where you have been for the last decades.

What do you like best about the product?
The system is well designed and thought out, the support is good and the environment very pleasant to use. RedHat is a very good Linux distribution, I've used several other distributions, RedHat is good.
What do you dislike about the product?
I cannot say there is anything I dislike about RedHat, the system works well and I like the fact that everything is accessible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use RedHat linux on military systems to implement control and GUI interfaces for weapon system operators.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
RedHat was chosen as the Linux distribution because the project requires commercial support. We use QT 5.6 on RedHat and the performance is excellent.

RHEL, The OS for real computer users

  • March 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to control every little aspect of administration
What do you dislike about the product?
the stock console color scheme that is set by RHEL, id rather see text on a white backgound. When things are blue its terrible
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use RHEL for all of our servers, it provides much better stability and patch management than windows
Recommendations to others considering the product:
good admins that know what they are doing

What do you like best about the product?
The support for the Operating Systems and how customizible they are. We are taking full advantage of the free open source operating systems when funds are limited.
What do you dislike about the product?
Relying on a community of helpful people for support is a different mindset compared to using Windows Server or Mac OSX where there is a corporation to call for support.

Note: The community is always incredibly helpful!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We run our network registration server on CentOS and one of our survey servers on another distribution of CentOS. The setup was incredibly easy and maintenance is relatively simple.
