Great product

  • May 08, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Nakivo Backup & Replication is a great product. The pricing of Nakivo is affordable and it's easy to use.
Next to that the customer support is great. The support always answer you as soon as possible and really try to help you.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing that I don't like is when the app aware mode is on, the VM's that's getting backed up will lose conection.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We already made back-us on file-level but not on VM-level. Nakivo offers a great and easy solution for this.

Reliable Backups

  • May 08, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1. Simple deployment model that can grow with your workloads.
2. Configurable. Create one time backup jobs or create schedules.
3. APIs. There is an API that can be used to automate almost every action required.
4. Failure Handling. Recovers from outside issues that would normally cause an error. If 1 VM has an issue the remaining items in the job continue.
5. Multi-Cloud. One tool can be leveraged to manage workloads in an on-premise environment or cloud hosted.

The main reason Nakivo was of interest was the ability to consume the API to provide a dynamic environment that can be changed as the workloads change. When VM's are created or destroyed the API can be leveraged to update or modify jobs as needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Having an API is great but I wish it was more friendly. For example every action is called against :/c/router with a payload defining the request. Ideally when I want to get a list of jobs it should be an HTTP GET on a resource instead of always being a POST with the resource and method defined.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to dynamically configure backup jobs so that no workloads get missed. Nakivo provides a simple yet powerful means to provide the backup and recovery of your environment.

Synology Backup Tool

  • May 05, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've been playing with a number of different tools in my lab to compare different backup solutions for VMware for the Power User / HomeLab / Small Office environment. My environment consists of a single VMware server with 4 running virtual machines and a Synology DS918+ to support the testing of different virtual machines that I do. I decided to test the Nakivo Synology app and I found it to be probably one of the quickest and easiest backup solutions to use Total time from setup to first test backup was less than 10 minutes. The application uses the Synology onboard storage so getting the repository setup is trivial. Configuring the remaining settings such as email alerting was easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I didn' like was the install process on the Synology device. I manually installed the application but for some reason, it didn't start correctly after the first install. I had to restart my Nas device to get the application to run. After the restart, the application has been running perfectly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Looking for a way to protect a limited number of VM's in a HomeLab/Small Office Setting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For a small office running a single VMware server, this would be ideal.

No Longer A Good VM Backup Solution

  • May 01, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1. Lightweight Linux VM. Windows is not required.
2. Screenshot verification. This gives us peace of mind that we can recover from our backups.
3. The backup storage files are not a small number of huge files, as with VDP, but a number of smaller files. This gives us the ability to copy only the small number of files that change to a daily disk thats get removed off-site.
4. Self backup of Nakivo configuration to the backup repository
5. Access to tech support
What do you dislike about the product?
1. Constant problems in the last few versions. No clear indication of what's causing the problems.
2. No indication on where bottlenecks are occurring. The logging available from the GUI interface doesn't have enough information when there are connection issues while creating a repository.
3. You need to login as root and edit the system scripts to turn on detailed logging.
4. All of the time spent diagnosing and fixing squandered all of the savings buying this less expensive product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a backup that had low system overhead, a wide variety of storage options, quick, de-duplication, and recovery testing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do yourself a favor and skip this product. Look into a complete solution like Veeam, which doesn't have all of the technical problems.

Nakivo Backup and Replication - Works Great!

  • April 23, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simplicity, Speed, Dedupe and compression without addon cost. Untethered capacity
What do you dislike about the product?
The only negative is not really a negative but Nakivo does not backup physical servers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Nakivo B&R has simplified our backup process, to include the actual backups and retention period of that data by way of dedupe and compression. Previous backup vendors charged a premium addon for those functions. The Nakivo product also untethers capacity that we were once capped at on a competing product - no more purchasing 100% of an application but are limited to only consuming 80% of the licensed capacity.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do your homework and compare feature and function - cost per socket and the simplicity it offers over top choices like VEEAM - it literally cant be beat for how simple it is. It has worked without issue since inception and when we have run into an issue - support fixed it or provided a solution within 24 hours

Easy

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to set up. Like the simple alerts to ensure the backups happen when they are supposed to.
What do you dislike about the product?
Haven't found anything I disliked yet....
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Complicated backup softwares that we don't know how to use, so the systems don't get backed up.

What do you like best about the product?
From the first contact, we had in 2013 seemed like a promising solution for Backup and replication, perfect working with VMware, Hyper-Y compatible with all appliances shuts QNR, Synology and AUSTOR,

Nakivo is the best

  • March 28, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use of the application is clearly the first feature that stands out. Also, the ability to scale the application is awesome. I cannot say enough good things about the responsiveness of the sales & technical support teams.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I would like to see, would be the ability to customize the SMTP address for the job notifications.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were able to set up and configure Backup & Replication to multiple replication targets for a combination of on-site/off-site backups.

This process would have cost additional, or been more convoluted had we used other competing products

  • March 27, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We have been using Nakivo running on QNAP NAS for couple of weeks backing up about 15 VMs on 2 ESXi servers. Setup and config was quite straight forward. It has been working well so far.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really. It is doing it's job well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
System backup and DR.

Very simple and useful VM Backup tool

  • March 27, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Nakivo has a very nice interface. It was very easy to install and get the first VM backup.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have some sporadic issues with my Nakivo implementation: sometimes it fails to access my remote repository in a OpenMediaVault NAS. It works fine, but sometimes fails to access the repo. At the moment I was not able to get a solution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have 2 critical VMs in my office. With Nakivo I set a daily scheduled backup for each one.
If an error occurs during backup I'm notified by email.
