Now is the time to Switch to Blackboard Ultra by Anthology

  • July 15, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This is not your father's Oldsmobile. Blackboard Ultra by Anthology has successfully made the shift from a clunky, inacccessible LMS to a well designed, accessible, streamlined course home for students and instructors. After trippling their development resources, Anthology is now leading the pack in learning management systems. The best thing is that students 'get it.' There is no confusing navigation inolved. This LMS comes with a clean design and industry leading AI-enhanced features that will allow instructors to focus on the things that matter.

It plays well with others! All of the major publishing tools and LTI integrations are available. The new LTI standards in use with Ultra allows for deep and seamless integration for students and faculty alike. Switching to Ultra is a breeze. Anthology know has an Ultra Adoption toolkit that makes implemenetation a much more manageable process that tyring to go it alone.

In summary. Now is the time to switch to Blackboard Learn Ultra by Anthology. If you are looking to making course content more accessible to your students, making the most of your instructor's time, and taking the step into next-level course management, then I highly encourage you to take the plunge!
What do you dislike about the product?
Note: Most of my dislikes about Blackboard learn are already on their roadmap for improvement. In the past two years, Anthology has been really reponsisve to client feedback, so we look forward to these frowns being turned 'upside down' in the future!

- lack of embedded images/links in emailed course announcement
- inability to post announcements to specific groups
- no subject on course messages
- Ally doesn't check HTML blocks on Ultra documents

Again many of the things I think are 'missing' are already on the roadmap....not evertything can be developed at the same time.

My one other 'disllike' is also being worked on. We have had more than one change in Tier one support over the past few years (as is expetcted when a company gets folded into another comapny). There have been some stumbles and growing pains along the way in front-line support and communication. As Anthology and Blackboard continue to evolve, I expect this to ameliorate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ultra is making course content more accessible and available to students than ever before.

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, and usable by anyone without any deep experience in technology or programming.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes there is a drop in the Blackboard web page loading, also in Ultra Collaborate recording, there is no "Pause" button that makes many recording files appear for one session.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In the supporting language (Arabic) there are some problems such as printing the student's attempt in the exam as well as in the preview of the assignment attached files.

Continuous Release - Contiunous Growth

  • April 12, 2024

What do you like best about the product?
I have worked with BB Learn in both a LMS technician and Online Design/Technician roles and I have seen both the backend and faculty/student facing aspects of Blackboard Learn. From managing the transition from Original to learn; I would say the most impactful aspect was the technical support and weekly update sessions provided by Blackboard. These aspects built a confidence in support of the product and mostly timely updates and releases ensured that the system kept running smoothly; even through hiccups.

The important thing to note is that continuous release means that the system is not released as a perfect model but will continue to evolve and hit snags along the way. The snags can be beneficial in re-working the way we think about both data management and content delivery and force universities to think outside the box. This push to creativity is necessary in the tremulous climate that higher education is facing and I feel has actually allowed colleges to push harder for online courses and education which has elevated its worth. Having a reliable LMS is vital when surviving a pandemic but also for creating new programs that can be offered solely online - this increases enrollment and reach for universities.
What do you dislike about the product?
While I appreciate the value of continuous release, the timing and punctuality of fixes is not always ideal. Often we are left encouraging faculty to stick it out until the fix comes through which can diminish their faith in the online learning environment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The system itself is much more user friendly and intuitive; whereas, Original was very unapealing to non-IT faculty who struggled sometimes with understanding how to use the system. The new look and feel provides similar features as Original but with significant updates and visually appealing and intuative navigation that makes the usage more universal. I would love to see more Universal Accessibility features implemented to alleviate some of that lift from course designers and technicians. I believe Ally should be an included part of the LMS system to help universities reach Federal and State ADA guidelines.

The only LMS solution you need for your University

What do you like best about the product?
The student facing interface is very user friendly and so does the Admin panel. Over the years Blackboard has done some of the great changes which significantly improved the way we build the courses and then deliver it to multiple classes. The most important feature for us is the ability of the system to allow granular copy of content from a different sets of courses, which is really really useful. Absolutely loved the idea of Blackboard to come up with this feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
The slowness due to having loads of content within the Ultra course, makes it difficult when you have to audit the courses before delivery. This is really annoying tbh and the same have been reported.
Other thing is the support, the staffs need to level up their knowledge and increase the response time. So far there is a very little improvement but a lot can be done in this area.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We deliver almost 200 courses every month, each class has their unique sets of delivery method. This is very challenging and time consuming. With blackboard this becomes just another hurdle for us. We simply split the development into two or more ultra courses based on the class requirement and then copy it into a single course, making it as a parent course to serve the all the classes acting as a child. The whole idea of Parent and Child relationship in the courses solves the classing requirement and delivering what is being asked.

The Standard in Learning Management Systems

  • April 09, 2024
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard Learn in the app format is a rather seamless and robust application that allows for utilizing a mobile platform to access the content of the Blackboard learning managmenet system. It runs on multiple mobile platforms including iOS and Android, and works very well. All necessary options for utilizing the Blackboard LMS are available in the Learn app. This app is also easy to find in either the App Store or Google Play store and installs quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
As for drawbacks to the application, there are not many. From an instructor perspective, since the mobile interface is different from the desktop, it takes a while to get familiar with it so that the same content can be found. Navigation may also take a bit longer due to learning where options are, however this will improve with continued use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard Learn solves the problem of mobility. I am able to review details about submissions and manage student performance without being tied to a desktop computer. By leveraging self-graded assignments, I can spend more time helping students to improve their learning and focus on the scored results.

Esiest platform for blended teaching

What do you like best about the product?
Whether you teach in a classroom or fully remote or something in-between Blackboard is an essential tool for grading and communicating with your students. Need a place for group meetings, live video, and collaboration-Blackboard has that too. It is the all-in one communication tool that will get your students ready for working with Slack and Microsoft Suite while giving you the access, control, and grading functions to make teaching much simpler.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tool integration is not smooth if your IT department likes to turn things off!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard mirrors the multi-tool function of SLACK that all students need to master. Without realizing they are practicing the most important business skill there is- effective communication with a team.
