Robust and Cost effective tool that can prove ROI in shortest time possible

  • December 02, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Columnar distribution and compression for reduced footprint. MPP for performance and scalability. ANSI compliance makes it easy for change management since users with previous SQL knowledge can move to Vertica easily. Documentation is pretty much clear even video tutorials for users are available which can be a great help. Vertica certification enables users to make more out of Vertica for understanding basic and advanced concepts.
What do you dislike about the product?
Per TB licensing. Users have to worry about license usage at all times which becomes a challenge with you are working in an organization with huge amounts of data. Though buddy projections do not use any license still users tend to create copies of data for the various purpose which in result exhaust license which is a challenge.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
First of all performance challenges secondly start small with vertical and then scale up.
Query execution times are improved using Vertica.
The administration is pretty easy since there is a lot of admin stuff maintained by Vertica itself
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For those who want to validate its ROI, there is a good chance you start small with a minimum number of nodes, and as value realized start building on top of it and scale. Its less expensive than other RDBMS and offer more performance and scalability. The need for specialized is still there which again is not a big problem. We have implemented Vertica at numerous organizations and feedback from users is very positive and even hardcore Oracle and DB2 enthusiasts have recognized significant improvements in the overall solution.

It’s the best database in terms of loading the huge chunks of transactional data and it’s very fast in doing so. It’s availability and consistency is good compared to other databases in the market right now. Due to Ksafe feature, data is almost every time available for the users.
This is my personal view on the database version I worked on
What do you dislike about the product?
Expensive and few resources to learn more about the product apart from few tech blogs and the documentation comes from Vertica
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Banking domain, we were using for generating customer reporting for business users

What do you like best about the product?
The columnar approach and storage of data in projections to quickly access the data most frequently queried.
What do you dislike about the product?
The limitation of manually clearing up ROS containers when a query is interrupted (due to network issues) and needs to run again.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm using vertica for Data warehousing for Business Intelligence. The quick data fetching and response time, the query optimization, the data storage and compression are some of the fine things and benefits of using vertica.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do go through the documentation. Everything is there if you want to know anything.

Review on Vertica Technology

  • August 21, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best about Vertica is it has 99.99% availability and 100% consistency. It has got powerful tools like Vertica Backup and Restore utility which helps recover single table or schema or cluster from past backup images. The most admirable is its K Safe Feature due to which it helps maintain the consistency among the nodes. If a node goes down it does automatic sync as well. It also has Database Designer which will help you tune your SQLs and suggest optimized projections. To add icing to the case it has management console its GUI interface as well which helps you monitor multiple clusters using the same GUI . It has got nice online support as well in case of issues.
The incidents of cluster down specifically to the projects I support had gone down 100% . If one node goes down still due to Ksafe feature your entire cluster remains up and available to the business. Over all on personal grounds a very reliable and useful products that any Organization can rely on.
Note : This is my genuine personal opinion only for the product I have worked hence the candid feedback.
What do you dislike about the product?
About its upgrade path and just supporting 1 release backward compatibility if you upgrade your cluster.
Also cross environment restores for the cluster having different names but same nodes restores should be made possible that are having different names. So entire snap can be restored.
Note : This is my genuine personal opinion only for the product I have worked hence the candid feedback.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
100% cluster availability issue is resolved. Maintenance down time is reduced. Also business functions are executing per expectations.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Over all a good product worth it for the money you spent.
