CheckPoint Next Gen FW, an excellent player in the security perimeter

  • May 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
The best that we can rescue from the CheckPoint solution is the high level of analysis for advanced threats, the mechanisms of emulation and extraction of incoming traffic to our perimeter are securely protected by your next generation Firewall. At the corporate level, it has also been beneficial to be able to control users' internet browsing, the management of security profiles to be able to filter browsing for better control of internet links.
What do you dislike?
Something that can still be improved is policy management, only an admin can be connected and make changes to the dashboard, it still does not handle multisession to be able to administer the Firewall. On the other hand, its interface is only available to be installed in a Windows terminal, it would be excellent to have more versatile access as a web browser.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
The challenges that have been solved are the protection of threats to our productive data center servers, at the level of IPS, Antivirus, Antibot and the security of your Endpoint have raised the standard of information security. Another great challenge was having the latest security signatures completely updated, with Checkpoint we receive notifications of new updates applied every day.

Next Generation Firewall

What do you like best?
The lot of features like Threat emulation, Threat Extraction, Proxy and the SSL decryption used mainly in incident's investigation. The change management is another great feature, in cases where you have several areas/admins role.
What do you dislike?
It needs more than one appliance to explote all the capability. It's difficult to avoid errors if you use all the features in only one box. It is expensive for a small/medium company to afford all the blades.
You need staff with previous experience in the use of brand's products, because it's difficult to start to scratch with this box.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I had to implement a IPS solution on the corporate network, and with the Check Point integrated IPS avoid buying another appliance.
The IPS blade has a high block efficiently.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend the solution, it is a well-known vendor, and you can trust in their experience.

When you think of Firewall, think of Checkpoint Next Generation Firewall (NGFWs)

  • May 15, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
The automation part where we can automate the part of implementing the policies in the firewall to other multiple network policies which makes the job of the network administrator really easy.
What do you dislike?
One needs a bit of training or some network expertise to work on the product and to understand how a firewall with respect to zones and how the traffic is blocked by default and on which zones it is allowed.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Making sure what kind of network traffic enters the enterprise network and what kind of traffic is blocked or what network domain is blocked really helps in keeping the network secure and more robust.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The user interface of the firewall is very heavy and takes a lot of time to load, if the Checkpoint team can work on optimizing the UI, that'd be great.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Threat prevention, application filtering and CIA

Top FW on the market, complete solution with a good GUI

  • May 14, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
All the solution, the interface, the appliance, capacity for blades with separate licenses, top and fast support, good cluster support
What do you dislike?
Only one administrator can be on the SmartDashboard. The routes and VLans/Networks has to define in a different interface (GAIA) and validated in the main one
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Have 4 appliances a back-to-back system and a cluster system, we used for access our costumers devices via VPNs with security and speed, the Check Point NGFW allows us to keep a 99,99 SLA
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to use appliance and use the right one to your capacity needs

What do you like best?
The Checkpoint firewall platform is extremely customizable and lets you tailor it to your perimeter control requirements. Interoperability with IPSec has been solid as we've had to create tunnels to non-checkpoint firewalls (Fortinet, McAfee, and Cisco). The stability of the platform is very good, in the decade+ usage the issues that can be attributed to the firewall OS can be counted on one hand. Checkpoint is also refreshing and revamping UX and protection capability periodically so they remain one of the best firewall solutions available. Their support is very competent and upper tiers are very good if you have a critical or thorny issue.
What do you dislike?
With great flexibility comes great complexity. Since this is a platform that has evolved over many years there are some settings that can be difficult to find and buried deep in the interface. While things have gotten better over the years with the revamp of the base OS that Checkpoint runs on, you still have multiple locations to check different settings (Gaia OS CLI, Gaia OS gui, Checkpoint gui), to be fair it's the rare occasion where we had to venture into the Gaia CLI itself, usually under the guidance of Checkpoint support. Tracking and calculating cost can get complicated when you add multiple layers of protection and it can really add up.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
The main reason we started with Checkpoint was top of the line perimeter control and that continues today. Over time we have used advanced features such as URL filtering which is super helpful with todays cloud world, IP's aren't something you can rely on in a lot of cases. Site to site and client VPN are also features we used and they are very solid.

CP NGFW Review

  • May 14, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
Very robust for a small business infrastructure solution.
What do you dislike?
Cost to get trained on the device and to receive certification.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I like that the different blades provide protection for all points of attack and are focusing on protection in the cloud.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do your homework upfront and plan as much out as possible. That will make the importing and configuration faster and much more accurate.
