Dynatrace clear and functional

  • January 25, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dynatrace has a centralized suite of tools to review an the performance of an application from inside the system and from an end user perspective. It rivals NewRelic in its ability to monitor what is necessary and it is simple to set up. Everything is in one easy to search dashboard and there is no confusion as to where to find the information you need.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be pricey and difficult to find what tools are best for your needs without an extended trial of various capabilities. The monitoring can get a bit chatty and sometimes we get alerts that are not clearly caused by something wrong on the systems. The agents that do external testing from different regions can sometimes report incorrect information.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We monitor the sites we manage externally with the Keynote capability and it really proves what end users see are the problems they are facing. We can tie those directly to errors in the application from the dashboard.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely compare the features and prices against New Relic. It may be a better fit.

Great product for digging into issues!

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to show the flow of transactions, where the errors are and what functions are responsible for the long run times or errors is awesome. Even a non-developer like me can troubleshoot and find the cause of issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is almost too much information at times. It is very easy start investigating an issue and wind up researching an issue that isn't the actual cause of the problem you're trying to sort out. Setting up business transactions would be really helpful, but I still haven't figured out the best way to do that. I don't like that they keep changing the product's user experience and menus. this makes it very difficult to walk other users through how to troubleshoot issues on their own. I also don't like their customer portal or how their support and account management team has decreased in their helpfulness over the years.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using this to find and troubleshoot issues with our applications, whether they are application issues with IIS or Tomcat, database issues, or network issues. We also use Dynatrace to chart errors, and monitor server health (memory/cpu/disk).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is the product that you will want, one that gets every request and lets you inspect everything about that request. The installation process is easy, but you should carefully consider the licensing and where you should use this (we use in production and our performance test environments) because it can be very expensive if you roll this out everywhere.

DynaTrace

What do you like best about the product?
Detailed logging ability is best of breed
What do you dislike about the product?
Challenging to analyze data. Need expert on staff or a COE to maximize tool usage
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
System slowdowns, web development tracing
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Setup a dedicated support swat team or center of excellence for tool experts.
Grow your usage/user base by opening up usage to support liaisons
Also good to control licensing with controlled rollouts

Dynatrace Quick Review

  • January 10, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is a good compliment to infrastructure or device level monitoring.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still have some questions on how quickly is it to set up and on how easy is it really to navigate and use out of the box with little or now training.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We want to be more proactive in detection of possible application problems that are not detectable through standard IT infrastructure monitoring tools.
