Catchpoint 2022 review

  • January 12, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of building test scripts. The instant test facility has been very useful to build new scripts or to test new steps before full deployment. The new Symphony UI looks promising but still needs more work.
What do you dislike about the product?
Challenges in trying to get Single-Sign on scripts to work.
Some tickets opened with Catchpoint seem to take "forever" to resolve and the updates to the ticket while waiting for a positive outcome is mostly vague enough to ignore. The updates do not indicate whether they are 30% or 70% complete on providing a solution to the issues raised in the ticket. Because some tickets take so long to resolve, I sometimes forget the history of events for the ticket and have to read the ticket from the start to recall the progress of the issue.
The Symphony UI takes some getting used to but there are still gaps that need to be filled that are replacing "equivalent" functions from the old UI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Catchpoint has been useful in helping us to quickly setup monitoring for the many web properties we have. Integrating the Catchpoint alerts with Moogsoft has been helpful because Moogsoft has been the main "alert aggregator" for us. Since Moogsoft is also integrated with PagerDuty, it means that our customers would get the benefit of getting paged or pager escalations via PagerDuty without much effort. We didn't have to setup Catchpoint email alerts for each application team as they were added to Catchpoint. The new alert webhook feature has finally been made available which will help to reduce the number of calls we had to make to determine if any new Catchpoint alerts needed attention.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It would help if you did your due diligence when comparing similar products based on your needs

Solid product with many opportunities in Prod support, QA, API test, and more.

What do you like best about the product?
Catchpoint is often described as an 'automated synthetic test tool' - and it can be. But scratch the surface and you will find many other abilities - for example a worldwide network of test nodes for frontend testing. In addition,

For example, API testing
What do you dislike about the product?
The frontend could use a little work as it's somewhat dated. Be great to have additional pro services bench strength too.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Started with production support - reliability and performance testing. This tool spans our code - and all our vendors using the 'broswer' as the final arbitor. We are now expanding to API/QA testing. Those tests will, eventually, be promoted to production support to complete the devops cycle.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't think of CP as a 'synthetics' tool, think of it in terms of the challenges you need to address - and then leverage the CP team to help you meet those objecives.

On prem and AWS cloud monitoring

  • January 12, 2022

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of configuration, the number of global nodes around the globe, the customer support team is fantastic to work with, and technical support also goes above and beyond to help. Test granularity is beyond other RUM and synthetic monitoring tools. It can certainly get complex configuring some tests, but if you ever get lost or stumped, the support team is always available and willing to help with a solution. Not only will they help configure tests for monitoring, but they also will help analyze each test and provide their expertise.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost is the only negative I can think of. Points dissipate quickly with very few tests configured, but the tool does much more than other similar RUM and synthetic monitoring tools, so the cost many times is irrelevant.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
On prem network infrastructure monitoring, DNS monitoring, AWS app packet loss detection, CDN/Origin monitoring, app latency issues, etc.. Catchpoint fills a gap in synthetic monitoring that our BUs currently are missing.

What do you like best about the product?
Wasil and Alexa have been available on monthly check-in calls to review any outstanding issues. Wasil has been a key resource in setting up various dashboards and reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
The new UI has been challenging to get the hang of. It seems that some features like performance graphs are available in the new UI, but reports is still only accessible in the out UI. Wasil is going to give my team a training in the next few weeks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Running external backbone tests side-by-side with enterprise onprem tests has been very helpful. This helps to rule-out any external IPS issues.

The irreplaceable tool

What do you like best about the product?
I use Catchpoint on a daily basis. It serves the exact need of our Digital Experience Monitoring team. I find the ability to run different types of tests around the globe very convenient and accurate. Tracepoints are one of my favorite features in Catchpoint, and I like how I can easily visualize the data we collect through dashboards and favorites.
What do you dislike about the product?
When I trend data for a period of time that is longer than three days, I face some slowness, even in the mouse movement, unless I enable the breakdown. Also, I don't particularly appreciate it when the data exceeds the amount allowed in a chart
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are monitoring our cutomers shopping experience, plus the services and APIs used in the company, and tools as well
