Squid-Cache - Proxy server for web and more

  • January 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
Squid-Cache worked very well with the Windows network environment where we had it deployed. We were able to configure it in many ways, including blocking of web sites and other resources that we wanted to be protected from. It also stored a log of everywhere that all users visit that could be viewed by reporting software.
What do you dislike?
To backup the log the Squid-Cache service would need to be stopped, which would interrupt users' access. To get over this we created a script that ran out of hours.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We could keep a log of the websites users visited. This helped with troubleshooting immensely. We could also block access to say phishing websites.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Quite simply test as much as possible. Large logs can slow it down. So consider backuping up the current logs and restarting with empty ones periodically.

Great service

What do you like best?
I like the ease of use. Squid Cache is straight forward, with clearly defined terms of use. It's easily navigable and it does not take long to train other employees how to implement the program.
What do you dislike?
The only thing I would say I dislike is that the updates to the service can be slow and sometimes developer notes can be challenging to decipher. It takes someone knowledgeable about web proxies to truly understand the implications.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Overall, Squid-Cache is helpful in speeding up web servers and increasing security using traffic filters. This has ensured that our website is secure and running smoothly, which in turn, increases the success of our business and our appearance of professionalism.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Squid-Cache is a great way to create higher security on websites.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
It's simple and easy without being to much trouble - plus the increased server speed!
What do you dislike?
Sometimes the security can be a little to much that we have to find another way to get where we want with requesting access.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving being able to utilize network sharing without having to worry about viruses, or something else interfering with that process

Get your internet's access control

  • December 02, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
The traffic control based by user and the speeding up the HTTP / HTTPS traffic by content caching.
What do you dislike?
I think I haven't dislikes with Squid. But maybe it could have some improvements as in the way to create and change control lists.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problem of the speed of the Internet access. With the caching of more accessed content and with DNS caching quite increased the Internet access speed.

SQUID works as advertised and works well

  • September 17, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
Running multiple systems behind a server, the duplication of downloaded content is a given. Any reduction that can be obtained is always beneficial both from the cost and perspective and time.
What do you dislike?
I found configuration to be somewhat daunting especially if you are not sure what question to ask.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Local caching of content to be provided to internal devices. Updates may come across LTE based connections so only downloading once and then having it distributed on the local network is beneficial cost wise opposed to each client downloading yet another copy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Overall a great tool that does what it is supposed to. In terms of recommending it to other's it will depend on the user specific needs. If you think creatively I am sure there are other areas where it can be put to good use.
