Еаsy to use

  • November 13, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Documentation is great! Support as well!
Opportunities it gives us - link with more than one analytic systems; resend data; integrated tracking plan; predefined events and so on
What do you dislike about the product?
Cannot see many records in Debugger window. It will be great if we can see some reports on tracked data or even make some queries over data
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Custom metrics, better Google Analytics reports which gives our sales team information to make better decisions

Segment simplifies all our data ingestion related needs plus more

What do you like best about the product?
As a developer / architect I love being able to see my events flow into the system and then arrive in my different destinations.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI for the website(specifically protocols) could use a little tightening up but overall I think they have a pretty well designed UI which is easily understood by Devs and Business people alike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have alot of data coming from different systems and much of the data has to be filtered and 'fixed' before we can use it. We are now using protocols to design our events and properties and we are needing to 'fix' less data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider the cost and complexity of doing this yourself and Segment becomes an easy purchase

Data flows made incredibly easy

What do you like best about the product?
I like to only have to integrate 1 SDK to my app and be able to send the data to different products such as Mixpanel, Customer.io, Branch and so on.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would say that the only thing I dislike is the documentation that can quickly become outdated, comes a new Swift update or a new product changes. It can be frustrating to be facing an outdated documentation, or the docs display code that won't compile.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're analyzing how our users use the app, we're sending data to Mixpanel, we're tracking views, events, etc. The benefits are that we're not clueless about what people do with the app! I think it's quite obvious benefits.

Integrations and Data Implementation

  • November 07, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
Plug and Play. Instrument once, and that data is ready to be used anywhere, thanks to Segment's extensive library of integrations.

The product is great, and the team behind it elevates it even further with involved and knowledgeable CSMs, creative solutions architects, and an incredibly responsive helpdesk.

Replays make it easy to regain any "lost" data, and Segment has built a strong relationship with other key vendors in the space to create an extensible ecosystem to cover most data needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Protocols is a powerful tool, but I wish it had been bundled with the core product rather than sold separately, as it's crucial to successful data collection at scale.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking user engagement, driving contextual nurture with the data we collect, and getting better insights from a part of our user journey that used to be a black hole. We've seen higher conversion, retention, and revenue since we adopted Segment and started using it to power our Growth stack.

Data layer management made easy

  • November 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Segment were early adopters in the data transformation space. The platform makes it easy for marketing, product, engineering and data teams to connect web apps, mobile apps, data warehouses and engineering software together. Through standard protocols Segment helps to construct, manage and pipe data for growing companies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Segment operates a MTU model which works to a point but does mean the platform can become expensive as you scale. With more players in the space there are cheaper alternatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Segment helped solve the issue of rapid deployment of tracking code for Salesforce, GA, Heap, Facebook, Twitter and AdWords. The benefits are consistent and reliable data entering our data warehouse. Systems can be set up and working quickly. This means faster impact to results.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need great quality data, at your data, marketing, product and engineering teams fingertips. Don’t waste time on optimising java. Hey one snippet in and then you can focus on running your business.

Easy setup and management for controlling data flows

  • October 30, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
Segment has been fantastic for us to add new destinations for our data, we can trial out different analysis tools, and pick best of breed without having to integrate to each one. It has also freed up development resources because business analysts and other users can set up new destinations without being reliant on the development team.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downside of the above is that the development team can lose site of where data is going and how it is being used. Great for business analysis, not so great for data management. I'm very happy Segment has introduced the privacy portal to help manage that data, where it is flowing and how it is used.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having to do everything by manual integration, or developer configuration. Has massively impacted our reporting and analytics data, as well as ensuring as much data as possible is available in all platforms.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Easy integration tool that can be handled by business analyst or even product owner. Great for extending out tools and enabling business to drive integrations.

An absolute must for any data-focused company

What do you like best about the product?
Segment removes engineering requirements from connecting data to new products and managing the flow of data in your organization
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost - many of the great features are behind the Business tier which is materially more expensive that the Team tier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Centralized data structure, available to relevant tools, sync with data warehouse, ability to route data to new tools.

Does what it says it does

What do you like best about the product?
Customer support is responsive and UI is straightforward
What do you dislike about the product?
Updates only happen once every 24 hours for the connectors I use (SFDC, Marketo) at least for the plan we have. I'm not sure if the price is good for this level of updating.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Segment to aggregate all the disparate data in our company into one SQL db.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure to read all the connectors available to see if it fits your needs

Save money, time and a lot of pain!

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to implement, with connections for lots of systems. I love especially the ability to send data to an external database (BigQuery or any SQL DB) and also the consistency of data across multiple platforms/systems. The setup and implementation force you to think before acting: Segment also offers a lot of resources to browse through to perfectly plan your tracking system.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing for very big projects is quite high. And then, if one day you decide to stop using it you have to re-build all your tracking stack almost from scratch!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It gives a perfect view of the customer journey: no info is lost and there's data to take whichever decision to create better customer experiences. You can easily understand which features of your product are more used and which neglected, you can segment your audience and do one-to-one marketing, you know exactly how valuable each user is! It saves time in coding (you code once and it's done for all the platforms/systems you have to connect). You can experiment new platforms very quickly (no additional code required, so no engineer involved and you speed up time!).

Powerful Data Management Suite

  • August 03, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Segment encourages the software owner (or 'data presenter' to be more definitive), to successfully 'pipe' their data that is generated via their chosen 'sources' .
Many types of services and 'best in class methods' are the following core stages of the efficient data processing paths. A 'data presenter' is given an excellent web-based UI dashboard for building 'pipes' , the end of the 'pipeline' as I perceive it to be, is ones 'data warehouse' from which the data presenter would use 'bleeding edge tech' to visualize it, query the data as per the specification the require, etc.
I find this approach is helpful to devs who deserve the data too, although their time is spent much better developing great applications.
What do you dislike about the product?
I feel that segment is quite young as a platform, and has yet to implement many more systems into the service, offering the data presenter, the agility to build various data solutions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been pleasantly present with a great introductory start up credit to assist developing and improving the destination and security of my data collection.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend the use of Segment; considering,
(i) The user had a live application running
(ii) One without an implemented data solution, where segment will assist that transgression very quickly and seamlessly
