Linux to the rescue

  • April 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate how lightweight and how admin friendly it is. Although most Linux systems do give users a ton of access, admins can easily control content packages that are going to be installed to the system. Of course, people are usually more familiar with Windows and Mac OS, but Debian feels at home.
What do you dislike about the product?
Personally, I wouldn't say I liked how some of the menus felt a bit cluttered, especially when trying to access specific files from the toolbar below. It's a nitpick, but otherwise, I don't have any main gripes with Debian.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Windows randomly updating and taking up so much space for updates was really frustrating. It made sense to ditch Windows and go to a lightweight Linux build which Debian is. It's even user-friendly, so it's easy to teach new people how to use it correctly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Come in with some previous Linux experience for a smoother transition, but if you're unable to, it's completely fine. You will learn Debian as you go, and it's not that hard to use. This version is most similar to Windows / MacOs in terms of GUI.

Debian - A classic safe bet

  • April 26, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is a robust, reliable and opensource operating system. Undoubtedly a safe choice.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main problem I see is that many commercial solutions are usually based on Red Hat, so the administrator must adapt to the use of Debian.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As it is opensource, it may be used with total freedom in labs environments or for you own developments, without pay for license or suscription. In addition, there is a large community behind it that gives you security despite being "free".
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Simply it works and I'm sure when I deploy a virtua machine with this operating system

I'm using that for home automation solution. I like the small footprint and multiple architectures

Stable, safe and robust operating system.

  • July 27, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
With Debian I have a very well developed and stable Linux Operating System, I can program and adapt my projects very well with this system. Debian is the most stable system that Linux has, with a very large community of experts who constantly give updates and improvements.

Debian allows me to have many options, I can use it to control networks, servers, and personal computers, with an easy, fast and secure desktop.
What do you dislike about the product?
Debian is a very advanced system but difficult to configure, it is difficult for new users in the Linux world to enter with this large distribution, many programs must be installed separately for proper operation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have Debian installed on my personal PC, there I can have everything in one place, create softwares, modify Debian to my needs, control networks of my work site and have server options and everything from an operating system, with its graphical interface and Desktop I can surf the internet very well and do many things with a single Operating System on my PC.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend Debian to users with experience in programming and Free Software, it is a very robust system but complex in many things.
With Debian you can have a virus-free personal PC and configure networks with server programs, all from the same Operating System.

Best Linux experience and performance

  • April 17, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
· A lot of Linux distributions are based on Debian (Ubuntu e.g.) so it exist a great bunch of packets perfectly suited for this distro.
· Good performance both in graphical and terminal enviroments (Lighter than Ubuntu, for example).
· Very easy to install.
What do you dislike about the product?
· Maybe more difficult to start with than Ubuntu, because it dowsn't have "Store". Nevertheless, it is only a small effort to put all on the go.
· GUI is a bit "old fashioned" compared to Ubuntu, but easy to change.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've been using Debian as my standard testing Linux distribution for TCP/IP protocol stack behaviour and DNS, DHCP, LDAP, etc. server configuration. I realized this distro is perfectly suited for terminal usage, because all this tasks were done easily only on terminal.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If this is your first experience with Linux, maybe you should try Ubuntu first, it's easier to start with it. Well, of course you need to know if you want a Debian-based distro or a Red Hat one, but I suppose you have it chosen if you are reading this. Nowadays, from my point of view Debian is better than all of derived distros, so you won't chose badly.
