    Computer Software

Great for DevOps use cases

  • February 28, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I can very quickly build workflows to solve my day to day problems.

The on-prem agent is easy to deploy and makes it easy to connect to our applications (like JIRA) running within my company's network without requiring to open any firewall ports.

The REST connector and Workato SDK makes it easy for me to connect to any HTTP endpoint or build my own connector. It has great support for webhooks. Also, the ability to add your own actions to existing Workato connectors is a really handy way to expand connector functionality.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to see more devops related pre-built Integrations in the Workato community, especially around Bitbucket and Confluence.

More documentation/suggestions on how to recover from application API errors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use JIRA, Jenkins, Gitlab, Confluence, etc. and use Workato to automate workflows across these apps. I use Workbot for Slack to control these workflows and receive notifications in Slack.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Workato makes it easy to create and modify recipes, to get started with a basic scenario. You can then measure and improve over time. Recipes are versioned, so you can always switch back to an older version.

    Information Technology and Services

Surprisingly broad solution with powerful use cases and extensive collection of recipes

What do you like best about the product?
Time to value realization is very fast. Impressed with the ease of use and versatility. You can start with simple point solutions, get quick results and then scale fast to multiple broad areas. Innovative bot building solutions allow you to go beyond cloud integration and workflow. Having been in the integration space for couple of decades, I was impressed by how digital transformation can be accelerated through appropriate use of Workato. Many of our customers had legacy integration, middleware, BPM and SOA tools but the simplification without sacrificing enterprise support has made Workato their go to choice now. In many ROI calculations, Workato comes way ahead.
What do you dislike about the product?
Less of a dislike but more of challenge. Many of our customers seem to start with workato in a specific area due to existing recipes or immediate needs and lose out on the broader solution patterns. Some additional pointed documentation might highlight opportunities to leverage investments better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The primary problems was rapid rollout of new automated solutions for capturing key events and exceptions and translating them into workflow as new business capabilities were being rolled out. Some use cases were around big data and Splunk driven workflows while others were rapid responses to events in SalesForce, Slack or other engagement systems. A few customers were working on reducing legacy footprint using Workato to handle legacy integrations with cloud and front end systems. The key benefits were speed of implementation, better collaboration between business and IT, new capabilities not available with legacy integrations already in the enterprise.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do not try to be boxed within legacy integration models. Look at the rich collection of use cases and see the best fit for your business problem. Once you get the initial experience, go back and look at the broader enterprise needs and see ways to scale. While recipes with ServiceNow, SalesForce, Slack, etc are obvious look for the innovative workflows that can give your business users the edge. We do not see this as completely driven by business users but a lot better business aligned than most IT centered solutions out there.

What do you like best about the product?
The sheer customizability of what you can do by using Workato to connect the various apps you use and make them work together.

For example, Eventbrite organizers can use Workato to get notified via Slack when a new order is processed, and completely customize this Slack message with data points from the Eventbrite order—even include a link to manage the order in Eventbrite!
What do you dislike about the product?
As other reviews have stated, there is a bit of a learning curve. But after you get over the initial hump, you realize the full potential of what you can do with Workato.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alongside Eventbrite, our customers use Salesforce, Hubspot, MailChimp, SurveyMonkey, Marketo, Google Sheets, and the rest. Eventbrite customers use Workato to connect the events part of their business with the rest of their business.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give the free trial a shot & don't be afraid to utilize the Help Center materials. It's a bit of a learning curve, but after you're through it, you really realize all that you can do.

Easy, extensible integration

What do you like best about the product?
Worked well for the simple use cases. After trying for few months realized that I can use the service for advanced use cases too.
What do you dislike about the product?
Took a while to figure out how to use HTTP connector. Documentation is sparse.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
DevOps workflow.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start with A to B sync use cases. I found additional uses after the initial success. Now I am considering the product for approval workflows and on-prem data sync use cases.

    Internet

Easy to use and powerful

What do you like best about the product?
I was able to build simple integrations very quickly. Their english like descriptions makes it easy to understand what the recipe does.

For more complex business logic, I found recipes to be expressive enough to describe them. I specifically liked Workato trigger's ability to pick up older events, and not miss events even when a recipe is stopped for changes/fixes. Basically you can stop a recipe, make changes to it, and when you restart Workato will process all events created when recipe was off.

Transaction history is very useful. It gives you details of every step that is executed including the data input/output. You can rerun any failed or successful transaction. Great for debugging and recovery.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the powerful features are not easy to spot. Try/catch, call recipe, array processing are very useful but hard to spot.

For the more complex features, as well as connector actions and triggers, it would be great to have more examples within the doc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workflows spanning applications used for PM (Google drive/docs), dev (Jira, Slack, etc.), and partner teams. We also use it for notifications to Slack.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Identify use cases, and build them on Workato even before you purchase. This is a great way to experience the product, and also helps you understand the difference between Workato and some of its competitors.

Workflow & Integration Made Easy

  • February 26, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Their commitment to solving their customers needs and going out of their way to ensure successful deployment. Workato has a very robust number of integrations making it easy to start automating workflows between different systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the integrations don't expose the entire service's APIs. The documentation could better in some areas.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had a very manual onboarding process which we needed to automate. We developed several workflows incorporating Marketo, Salesforce, and Box.

Simple yet powerful

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of creating recipies for Integration. Power of creating custom connectors faster.
Time to take to GoLives.
Flexibility and coolness in UI.
What do you dislike about the product?
Need more flexibility on custom connectors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Business Process Integrations both internally and with external customers in the space of QTC.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great Product features and good customer support. The power of custom connectors will give the flexibility to connect any application of cloud. Pricing is good when compared to other biggies like Mulesoft or Tibco. Exposing the tool to Business User just like other cloud systems is the great thing which is much needed in the cloud world.

Proof of Concept with real life use cases

  • February 26, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Workato built out our use cases ready for immediate conversion to production (90% ready for PRD deployment - missing 10% for support processes) as part of the Proof of Concept.
What do you dislike about the product?
None so far. They have been very cooperative.
If Workato can improve its portal for external API Developer's self service portal and API usage monitoring clients would not have use Workato in conjunction with an API Gateway product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ease of integration coupled with BPM workflow for exception processing.
Benefits to realize:
1) Integration with Json messages instead of converting Json to XML to perform transformation with existing middleware
2) API orchestration to perform several API calls and trigger workflow when exceptions occurs
3) Pair messages before processing orders.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Integration with exception handling can only be accomplished with BPM workflow. Our Integration hub with Workato is only stronger because of workflow exception processing.

What do you like best about the product?
It is obvious that a lot of thoughts have been put together to create this product as it was easy for a non-technical person like me to use. I am keen to explore more and maximise the use of this product.
What do you dislike about the product?
It indeed require some learning at the start but once you get it, it will be really useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Internal integration, I was trying to centralize and automate information from Github and other data sources.
