Excellent toolset for Mac fleet management
What do you like best about the product?
I have a mid-sized fleet of Mac devices that I manage. Jamf Pro offers me powerful organizational features that allow me to easily scope software, scripts, and other policies to groups of any size. Since it plugs into our directory service, I can pull in user attributes to further organize my systems.
The inventory management and reporting, combined with smart groups, allow me to quickly and easily build reports for management to ensure they have all the information they need to make purchasing decisions.
My favorite recent feature is the App Installers system which, for catalogued apps, significantly reduces my involvement in keeping apps patched and compliant with our security policies. For legacy apps, apps which require some extra care and configuration, or apps which have different version requirements in our labs than for our employee systems - the Patch Management features allow me to create flexible group-based deployments and update rules.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is some inconsistency in the user interfaces between some of the older features and newer features within Jamf Pro. While they are working to overhaul this, it is a bit jarring.
Some features, like LAPS, are only accessible via the API. Jamf are working to integrate LAPS and other API-only features into the GUI, but that has limited the usefulness of these API-only features in my organization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jamf Pro allows us to ensure consistent computer configuration for labs and new users, keep inventory records for purchasing and compliance reporting, and interact with Apple's MDM systems to ensure devices are compliant with our security and configuration policies.
Jamf Pro
What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to use- but also easy to explain to any new employees that dont have exprieicne with Jamf how to use it- create enrollment packages and how to push out apps that needs to be updated or sent to a laptop that is within a specific group.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do find it hard that not everything is easy to find. Some items require more digging around in settings and cant be selected for each group. They have to be individually made per group instead of just selecting a previous group to copy
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Right now I am still learning more about Jamf pro- but one problem I am getting help with is resoring the connection to our LDAP and i appreciate support helping me figure it out but explaining it as well since I am still relativly new to it.
JAMF Pro - IT WORKS!
What do you like best about the product?
Simplistic GUI for all System Administrators to utilize which makes it easy for all to implement policy/profiles to better manage their organizations devices. No matter what the knowledge level may be for the administrator - easy to navigate.
What do you dislike about the product?
The ability to schedule macOS upgrades for planned updates. Currently there is no way to schedule a macOS upgrade other than scoping the upgrade to select devices outside of business hours and hoping it retrieves the update.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to manage all of our macOS devices, monitor the health of the devies EX - Query for harddrive space to ensure all devices do not reach the danger zone regarding disk space. Ultimately this gives the simplicity for administrators to not worry about having to manually lock down devices when Jamf can provide the heavy lifting.
The best MDM solution for macOS management
What do you like best about the product?
Jamf is still the best MDM solution for managing Macs.
Jamf Pro is updated frequently and is always on top of every little new feature released by Apple.
Jamf community is also very strong, and whenever you are facing an issue there is always someone that is happy to help a fellow Mac admin.
What do you dislike about the product?
The support team isn't always providing relevant and useful information, which can be frustrating when facing issues that need an urgent solution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since we introduced Jamf Pro in our company, managing Macs and making sure that they are secured at all times has become much easier.
We are planning to give all our employees the possibility to choose a Mac, and we got to this point because we trust in Jamf Pro.
The only option that truly works.

Jamf is a cutting edge product that is quick to change when apple changes. Jamf Pro specifically is a great all around solution for managing Mac's on a large scale. Jamf Pro makes it super simple to create and distrubte packages and configuration profiles. Seeing all of your inventory in one place and being able to filter by any which way imaginable is super helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Managing software updates can be a pain sometimes, but that's most likely caused by issues with Mac OS requiring user interaction to restart.Wish the dashboard was more easily customizable. Wish you could change the inventory display settings when your viewing a subset of the inventory.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working at a university, we have about 200+ public Macs on campus. We need a way to mange these effeciently and Jamf accomplishes this. The new addition of App installers has also helped speed up our workflow.
I have been working in Jamf Pro for the last 4 years to manage all of our Apple devices.
What do you like best about the product?
I love how vital Jamf Pro is. I have the ability to do just about anything I want on the macOS. It is so easy to create smart groups and scope custom policies to perform actions on my fleet. Jamf has been instrumental in managing our devices and creating a seamless zero-touch deployment of our macOS devices.
What do you dislike about the product?
At times in the last year or so it has felt like every time a new version of Jamf Pro is released there are more Product Issues than features per release. I feel the quality of the product has diminished as Jamf tries to keep up with the pace of Apple.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ensuring macOS devices are encrypted with FV2 and have our security software installed on enrollment.

Jamf Pro Review
What do you like best about the product?
Jamf pro is a great product, after being a Airwatch user for a long time we decided to make the switch to Jamf, after intial testing we realize it would work for our org.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not much thus far that I really dislike about Jamf, compared to airwatch it is overall better in my experience, the groups, users and device mangament are great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows for us to have better control and fine grain managerment over our 200+ field iPads that we do not see in the office all the time. This allows us to keep them managed and up to date.
A device-management tool defined by its simplicity and is easy to modify to our requirements
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for device management for Apple mobile devices, software distribution, device security, and inventory. We have Jamf as infrastructure as a managed service.
What is most valuable?
Jamf Pro's simplicity makes it stand out. I like the ability to modify it to suit our environment and the fact that, since it's an Apple-dedicated service, the integration is easy. They have a well-defined roadmap that fits into Apple's roadmap. As soon as Apple releases new software, Jamf is ready to go. I also like Jamf Pro's capability to provide us with the zero-touch deployment of mobile devices.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see improved integration of some of the additional tools that users create within Jamf itself.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Jamf Pro for about 16 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
If you have the cloud version, the stability is almost ten out of ten. If you have the on-prem version, I would rate the stability an eight-point five because its stability will depend a lot on your infrastructure and how your infrastructure team is willing to implement certain requirements to deal with the networking firewall rules, for example. Those may cause some complications.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Jamf Pro is a very scalable solution, and I rate its scalability a ten out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup would be an eight out of ten, but then they've got a service they call JumpStart, where they come and do the setup for you. The deployment took a few hours. Only one person was involved in the deployment process.
What was our ROI?
We have seen a 15% return on investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Jamf Pro is on the expensive side and could be slightly cheaper. There are additional costs in that once you have Jamf Pro, you also have to consider Jamf Connect, which is an additional tool you have to buy. Then, of course, they also have Jamf Security software. Those are separate, so you also have to buy those additionally if you need them.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Jamf Pro, we looked at FileWave. We went with Jamf Pro because it had better Mac integration and because it was wholly Mac dedicated. It didn't try and do two things because FileWave had Windows and Mac support, so there was some complexity. FileWave seemed more Windows-centric, whereas Jamf was very Apple-centric.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend Jamf Pro. There is another supplier called Kandji, who is probably the next best thing to Jampf. If you have a small installation, you might want to consider Jamf Now or Kandji. However, if you have a complex environment with different site locations and probably nationwide or continental-wide, Jamf Pro is a better service to leverage device management in a complex environment. I rate Jamf Pro a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
