Jamf Pro provides a comprehensive set of tools and services for managing Apple devices
What do you like best about the product?
There is a way to do every aspect of Apple device management with Jamf Pro
What do you dislike about the product?
Our organisation's complex needs require the ability to automate every aspect of what we do in Jamf Pro. Sometimes the API is lagging behind what you can do by clicking things in the admin user interface, which can be frustrating.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our primary aim is to provide a software kiosk for our Apple device users, plus enable our administrators to improve security on those devices and deploy configurations to help our users work more efficiently. Jamf Pro gives us almost all the tools we need to do this.
Excellent MDM for macOS Devices
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, the user interface, and overall functionality of the Jamf Pro platform. Not only that, but the publicly available API and corresponding documentation are great!
What do you dislike about the product?
The only "downside" of Jamf Pro is the lack of ability to keep applications patched and up-to-date. However, it does appear that Jamf will be implementing App Installers to resolve this issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Jamf Pro, my company can manage over 1,000 macOS and iOS endpoints with no problems. We realize that by using Jamf, we can save ourselves a ton of time with manual work by leveraging prebuilt configurations and automated workflows.
Jamf Connect
What do you like best about the product?
Jamf Connect has really helped us with the provision of macOS computers at enrolment. We use Okta as our IDP. It allows us to provision the user accounts from the Okta credentials used at enrolment. Along with MFA this has been a great user experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside we see is the user is prompted twice for their password at boot if FileVault is enabled. Not a deal-breaker thou.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem was the provision of the main user account on macOS computers, with Jamf Connect and Okta this is now so simple
Jamf Pro is sweet
What do you like best about the product?
Apple first integration is key for managing apple devices!
What do you dislike about the product?
Some specific features are in a feature requests that seem not to get any traction, even though several clients would benefit greatly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are patching apps/OS, managing settings with profiles, and using as many features as we can to provide a minimally invasive experience to users
Great Product
What do you like best about the product?
Jamf Protect is a top of the line endpoint security tool that provides best in class visibility into threats
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing - it is a great product that I highly recommend.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have gotten greater visibility and helped clients improve their threat management
Jamf Pro - Easy To Learn, Hard To Master
What do you like best about the product?
Easy separation of computers, mobile devices, and all the subgroups in between
What do you dislike about the product?
Some menu items, particularly searches, requiring hitting the View button that is nowhere near the search fields or criteria. It would be a nice QoL change to at least be able to trigger the search/view from the top bar rather than the bottom bar.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am a new admin, so I am still getting my hands dirty in the general stuff, but I can see that our organization has not been utilizing all that JAMF has to offer, and I plan on getting into it and using everything I can figure out.
Apple Management made easy!
What do you like best about the product?
Once it's set up and running - it's straightforward to manage iPad and Mac devices. Devices take what they need based on their names (Smart Groups set up in Jamf) - and managing updates and patch policies are effortless with add-ons from other Jamf users.
What do you dislike about the product?
Being a Google Apps for Education school from the midwest (where money is tight), I'm trying to find ways to make integration work. I am somewhat disappointed that we can't do DEP enrollment, including automatic username setup, without having Jamf Connect.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving the issue of updates and patch management. We used to have to take all the machines in and update them over the summer. With Jamf Pro - I can schedule updates, and with some 3rd party add-ins, end-users can update the apps at their convenience.
Managing Macs at Scale
What do you like best about the product?
Jamf allows you to manage a diverse (technically and geographically) and potentially complex Mac fleet with ease. Jamf allows administrators to set the configurations their macs will need as well as to deploy the software their users need from a centralized location quickly and easily. Users get what they need when they need it (either automated or on-demand) while administrators can ensure their fleets get the configurations they need to keep them functioning smoothly. Jamf also allows almost unlimited custom configurations and granularity to fit many different custom workflows and deployment methodologies, as opposed to a one size fits all approach. They also make it easy for administrators at all levels to start managing macs at scale.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it would be helpful if Jamf would be a bit more modular in how it does things. For example, some macOS configuration settings are lumped together when there is no apparent need for that. It would also be great if Jamf took a more programmatic approach towards its interfaces. That is, everything in the GUI should also be accessible via the API.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mass deployments and updates of applications have significantly reduced user help desk tickets and the need for immediate desktop support. Provisioning and deployments of fully configured devices, especially in the time of remote work, have been easily facilitated by using Jamf. Overall this means users can get up and running more quickly than they ever could before.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jamf is the tool for managing macs and does not replace the knowledge of the Mac platform needed to manage it successfully. Having a solid understanding of macs will make using Jamf that much easier.
It's cool to administrate Apple devices
What do you like best about the product?
Applying policies, scripts, packages. Restrictions
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the jamf cloud instance is a bit laggy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Patch management, security restrictions etc.
JAMF Connect - Okta
What do you like best about the product?
Allowed me to make great strides towards a Zero Touch solution using JAMF Connect and Okta. Enables MFA for the local endpoint and completely eliminates the issue with Filevault and AD Passwords.
What do you dislike about the product?
Automatic update integration is still lacking, so far it hasn't worked, I've had to specifically tell the integration to update, rather than let it drive itself. Maybe some will like this but I do not. In addition, the demobilization workflow is kind of tedious.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
