Essential for Managing Apple Platforms
What do you like best about the product?
Jamf is consistently the best management platform for Apple platforms, including macOS and iOS, offering same-day support for the latest software. Additionally Jamf provides great flexibility via extension attributes and scripts, managed app schemas for Configuration Profiles, and the wonderful Jamf community.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes Jamf leans too heavily on the community, instead of investing more into the product directly. However, this has been changing recently with the addidtion of managed app schemas and the rapidly expanding app catalog for patch management.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Prior to my current position, I managed and supported over 1,200 devices in Higher Education, using Jamf to build a solid foundation that I could hand off to others within my org as I leveraged the Jamf API to manage and provide version control to things like extension attributes and scripts. The API is a very large reason to use Jamf over similar a Apple-focused MDM.
9 Years of being a Jamf user
What do you like best about the product?
I think the best thing is how Jamf is constantly transitioning to be better. The platform, the customer service, and the resources.
What do you dislike about the product?
That the cloud server is still not recognized by federal agencies yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can update Macs remotely and in big groups instead of one by one.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
To also get the premium support. You will not be let down.
Higher Ed and Jamf:working through the HighEd challenges
What do you like best about the product?
Their relationship with Apple. If you are going to be the best tool at supporting an OS, this is absolutely critical. Without it, you will always be steps behind which leaves for a limited support product.
What do you dislike about the product?
Patching still needs to be better. Dashboards could provide more detail by default rather than developing through 3rd party but these are operational wants, not needs. Provide more default compliance tools versus making them add-ons for a price.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Compliance management and inventory. We do not have an off boarding process so machines walk away. Being able to lock them and force a return is huge.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely buy into the jamf jumpstart. It is valuable. Getting an engineer dedicated to setting you up was a huge bonus and peace of mind.
Jamf connect allows my users to log in with SSO(Okta)
What do you like best about the product?
Jamf connect allows me to have a great first time user experience for all my new users. They are able to use their Okta account to log in to their endpoint, which makes it a more unified SSO experience for my users.
What do you dislike about the product?
Jamf Connect does require a significant amount of configuration and is not easy to deploy if you have minimal experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm able to provide a unified SSO experience for my users.
Jamf Pro
What do you like best about the product?
The simplicity of the GUI, customer service, premium service and unfied functionalities of each feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
Self service do the have the capability in bookmark for admin to create their own categories.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Everyday support
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Keep up the good work and try to make Self Service like the App store.
Use of Jamf Pro just continues to expand as we discover more and more applications for the system
What do you like best about the product?
The best part of Jamf Pro is the granularity to which systems can be automatically managed. We are a university, with several colleges and staff units using macOS and iOS devices. We have our campus device management divided up using the "Sites" feature within Jamf Pro such that each unit is constrained to their own devices and can not access those of other units. The central support group provides overall management and development of the system, as well as customization of scripts and advanced features.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface in some places can be a little confusing. We have had a couple of instances where a user meant to delete a payload within a policy, but instead accidentally deleted the entire policy. Jamf has been working on clarifying these areas, as well as making the entire UI more friendly. The only other thing that I would request as an important feature is related to this, and is the implementation of a trash can/recycle bin metaphor when objects are deleted. This would provide a valuable safety net.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a lot of macOS and iOS devices, and not a lot of staff to maintain them. We have also received more and more directives from our Information Security group as far as hardening systems and making sure that patches and updates are deployed. Jamf Pro has made all of that more automated and easier to implement. We also have created a build chain for both office systems and lab environments such that completely automated and hands-off builds are possible. This saves a great deal of engineering time when an entire lab (or several) can be set for a build and then left to run on their own. Any failures can be quickly identified on the dashboard that the system provides as the landing screen on login.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jamf Pro is the 300 pound gorilla in this market, but it is also an excellent system and is quite customizable and flexible.
Great tool to provision and manage your Apple devices
What do you like best about the product?
Simple and easy-to-understand interface. Setting up policies for software distribution is a breeze, and makes our deployments easy and consistent.
What do you dislike about the product?
Patch management can be better. The process is super easy for the products that are supported but still have to be fed the source file. That is understandable for apps that need codes or customization before release, but there are others that could be pulled automatically (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) There are also some critical apps (for our environment at least) that are not on the patch management list. Having a way to add to that list would be great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A single place for Apple device inventory, and configurations has greatly improved our processes.
The best MDM solution for Apple devices
What do you like best about the product?
Option for cloud based Jamf Pro server. Clutter less and user-friendly interface with dashboards and status for policies and patch management. Composer is a great tool that helps to create software packages to be distributed via policies. User-initiated enrollment process is straight forward which is suitable for non-IT users. A lot of tips on managing Apple devices can be found on Jamf Nation, which is the largest Apple IT management community in the world. Great customer service supports with constant follow ups from the assigned technician on any oustanding issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
Smart Group's Criteria could be improved by offering more choices. Package upload and refresh time could be faster, as it takes time to wait for a new package to be ready and available on Jamf Pro. Add more third-party software to patch management feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to manage Apple device centrally without having to connect to company networks. Allow only authorized software and software updates to be installed via Self Service. Ability to restrict unauthorized software from being installed on users devices.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Among the MDMs that I previously used, Jamf Pro is the best. It's better than the rest when it comes to its user interface and functionality. Their tech support team is also reliable and always ready to help.
Jamf for Apple MDM
What do you like best about the product?
The huge community support from Jamf Nation and the friendly support team in Jamf.
What do you dislike about the product?
When something breaks and we are not sure why.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jamf Pro helps us manage all of our Apple devices from OSX to IOS. Since we upgraded to Jamf Cloud, we are able to deploy apps while users are off-site which is a huge plus for us during the pandemic. As for imaging, we have been using Jamf zero-touch deployment since pre-pandemic so it is just a matter of tweaking it for our needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are free trials and I believe free for users under five devices. It is always good to play around with it before making a purchase.
The entry fee is worthwhile
What do you like best about the product?
JamfPro can ideally achieved by combining the tool with other instruments that support the ecosystem of MacOS and iOS. A key element for our cooperation with Jamf Pro is the easy-to-use interface and methods with which you can organize all sites or devices precisely. Use of the national healthcare listener and the automatic rebooting of iPads via Epic were another great factor for our business. In addition to improving efficiency, Jamf helped our organization to also improve care for patients.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the inside teams need to be pushed and pushed to get the correct individuals together. This might require some practice to get out, but at the end of the day Jamf strives hard to repair any problems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Without a trustworthy mobile device manager, the usage and maintenance of over 600 devices will be the sole iPad administrator for a small school. JAMF Pro have gained even more time with devices that I can focus on a number of other things even outside my original design.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Watch JAMF PRO program hosted by JAMF. The host site is conducive and easy.
