As an IT professional, Jamf Pro facilitates work

What do you like best about the product?
JAMF Pro seems to be a very strong, easy-to-use software package. Furthermore, before releasing Apple software upgrades, JAMF Pro patches is issued. Before they are launched, it's nice to have JAMF support for new features from Apple. This enables us to better recognize the effects of new functionality in order to confirm to plan for an update beforehand. Your customer care is finally the highest of any tech position I am applying with!
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing! Nothing! Jamf Pro, either Jamf Software, did not have a negative incident.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For our 1:1 initiative, our school system uses iPads. There is an iPad for each of the students but also an iPad plus MacBook for each teacher. This is equivalent to more than 15,000 regulated instruments. We include one user who can use JAMF Pro and handle all such apps. We need some new employees without JAMF Pro.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Compare other suppliers who may have identical products and select the one that better suits your requirements. You cannot, therefore, find a better tool for Mac Management or a better customer service service on the industry.

Very Feature Rich, But A Little On the Technical Heavy Side

What do you like best about the product?
I do not have to host my own instance of the Jamf Cloud management software on my own hardware. I was able to have Jamf host this for me! As an additional bonus, I can access my Jamf Management portal anywhere I have internet, perfect for our current work from home set up!

I also like that I can create a policy, then set it so I can view its status (pass, fail, pending) on the main landing page for Jamf Pro. Its nice to have a dashboard of all my current polices. Especially If I just deployed one.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm not the best with MacOS, so writing scripts from scratch is pretty hard for me. While there are quite a few folks on the Jamf Nation forms who can help or who have already run into the same problems I have, it can still be pretty frustrating to get stuck on a scripting issue.

I do wish there was a better way to lock JAMF on a computer though. Currently, if a laptop is wiped out (though disk management in recovery mode) the Jamf agent is also wiped. It would be nice if Jamf could write to the BIOS (or macOS equivalent) like CompuTrace.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have moved all of our MacOS devices from a Visible WIFI network to a hidden MacOS only WIFI network. This was done with SmartGroups and policies that utilized those smartgroups to make sure that all devices who reconnected to the visible WIFI were moved back into the private network.

This would have been impossible to do without a central management system! Between deploying each WIFI profile, and then tracking who is on what WIFI profile. Jamf Pro made this all easy to do.

Complete Management of Apple Computers

  • February 11, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jamf Pro is a very deep and comprehensive way to manage Apple devices. They have been working with Apple for decades. If it isn't possible to be managed they are able to convey to Apple and work to a solution.

The Jamf Nation community of support is incredible. There isn't anything I have found in 25 years of IT that equals it! Need insight, it is there, you just need to look for it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Jamf Pro does a reasonable job with the terms and descriptions to navigate and understand the tremendous amount of management layers and possibilities the service provides. It is still overwhelming; especially for those not familiar with Apple's way of doing things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing over five hundred devices in a school district; across buildings; young students and older faculty and staff for clients is confusing enough. Jamf Pro provides a great way to prepare devices for users so that many issues can be addressed before problems arise. Updating software, giving or restricting access to applications and services, and currant information about the devices is available.

When we needed to suddenly begin remote schooling utilizing Jamf Pro was absolutely necessary. We could assist from home to anywhere. Deploy cloud video conferencing software in a day. And, update it as issues came up and were solved.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There is nothing that can avoid the difficulties of managing computers. Jamf Pro provides a complete and supported service for Apple devices. There isn't a better management service out there no matter which computer platform you look at.

Jamf Pro

What do you like best about the product?
- Customer Service is excellent; depending on your tier of support, you can even have a dedicated support person, but even at the basic level, you have access to their support line and their chat. It is US-based as well.
- The one platform (Mac/iOS) makes every aspect of their product relevant for your Mac/iOS fleet.
- Responsive and dynamic cloud platform depending on the size and needs of your fleet; updates are timely and zero day ready.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Most of the dislikes have to do with the limitations imposed by Apple regardless of the MDM solution.
- Occasionally something will happen where we will have to go back and forth between Apple and Jamf, but the two companies have a strong working relationship and generally open lines of communication.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have been able to create a wide variety of subgroups of iPads for our schools and classrooms. We have also been able to individualize and push out a wide range of profiles to tailor and improve the experiences of our youngest and oldest populations in our k-12 district.

The solution for Apple device management in higher education

  • February 11, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jamf Pro gives our users self service options, allowing them to manage their own devices, install their own software, and troubleshoot their own issues easily. It gives us a myriad of information to make business decisions from, and helps greatly with remote troubleshooting and support, especially in the age of covid. We can be confident that all of our machines are up to date and compliant with our policies, and upgrading to new software versions for our fleet is simple for both us in IT as well as our users. The power that comes from being able to automate management of our devices has greatly reduced the time and effort required to support our faculty and staff. Jamf Support is also excellent, and their training documentation, certifications, and user community are invaluable in efficiently managing the service.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some features that seem basic are lacking or missing, even with feature requests that have a large number of 'votes' by other users. The good thing is that nearly anything is possible with custom bash scripting or package deployment, so we have been able to work around most issues that we've run into. We would also like to see better support for patch management; currently there are a limited number of apps that can be automatically patched and version controlled, so we don't make as much use of this feature as we would like. There are third party solutions for this, but they tend to be pricey and not a good fit for our smaller organization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are providing better support through self service, allowing our faculty and staff to manage their own devices and problems more easily than would be possible if we were required to interact with every situation that Jamf covers. Especially now that many people are working remotely, it is infinitely easier for us to deploy software to users through Jamf than to have to host software installers and provide instructions, or to have to manually install software ourselves. We have been able to reduce reliance on support staff greatly, freeing up IT staff to work on more challenging issues with larger organizational benefits.

Gold Standard for Apple MDM

  • December 02, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's highly customizable and flexible. Support and the community are fantastic with solving problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's a decent sized learning curve since it's capable of doing so much.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're able to amplify our IT staff. We're able to manage our entire fleet with far fewer staff than if we didn't have an MDM.

Comprehensive endpoint security suite for macOS

  • October 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Day 0 support; Protect is macOS only and leaves legacy baggage out (ported over Windows or linux products); on-device processing and detection focus for security and privacy; automation with jamf
What do you dislike about the product?
Protect covers a large area of Endpoint Security (malware, threat prevent, EDR, eDLP) and for macOS administrators who aren't familiar with macOS and the new Endpoint Security frameworks Apple added since Catalina, some of these things are more difficult to communicate to others for understanding. Jamf could make additional documentation, comparisons, examples available to help this point.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Nothing good comes from ported over Security solutions as many administrators know. Protect solves that plus does not place a dependency on macOS updates with its guaranteed Day 0 support.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No problem in managing equipment, it gives me the facility to make machines ready for tasks, wherever and whenever it is necessary.

Great MDM With Excellent Support

  • October 01, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the more-intuitive design and layout of Jamf Pro compared to other MDMs I've used over the years. Their support is also awesome at getting down to the source issue or at least guiding you through a process.
What do you dislike about the product?
When I'm creating a policy and then configure a script, it completely takes me away from and resets the policy I've been creating, instead of having a simple "back" option. It also doesn't automatically refresh when you configure a script, so you're let looking at a blank screen until you press a key. Also, sometimes the dashboard can be slow to work with or won't show the devices properly in the "Complete" ,"Pending", or "Failed" areas.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to push out packages, updates, and other support options to client's computers has been great, especially with the WFH scenario.

Tracking devices needing to be updated or refreshed has been easy with the search options and smart groups.

Self Service has always been a life-saver by allowing users to complete tasks or update programs, themselves.
