Jamf has been overall a great experience

What do you like best about the product?
I like that the user interface has been mostly pleasant.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like how some info in Jamf is fairly limited. For example, search criteria for certificates. Its pretty much useless. When I view the certificate inventory that is on a computer theres a decent amount of info, but the criteria doesn't take advantage of this. Also integrating with some bigger brands like Okta, there isn't really any documentation for setting this up. More specifically setting up Okta to be used as an enrollment authentication method.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've been able to mostly manage our Mac environment with Jamf Pro. Theres been some things that needed to be created outside of Jamf's functionality. The main benefits are the capability to manage our Macs and have them be in compliance within our standards

pushing new software to all our macs in the company. Keeping the macs up to date.

Jamf Pro Review

What do you like best about the product?
I like the blue dots indicating there are new features. I'm not in the system as much as I use to be since everything is setup. The self-service app for macOS has made my life a little bit easier with deploying printers to our users. I also like Jamf's friendly customer service if I ever needed help. I like how I can drill down into a user's device to see printers attached, model, most everything I need to know about their computer system. I'm sure if I used Jamf every day I would have more greatness to talk about, but we have simple needs and currently, Jamf meets them.
What do you dislike about the product?
With macOS after you erase a computer, it does not install a copy of macOS. Erasing iOS is no problem! Also, sometimes when I run policy through self-service the error message just seems too generic. Looking through the logs doesn't tell me much other than it failed. Not very helpful at all. :-). I feel like I still have to touch the devices before they get deployed. For macOS, the apps that are pre-installed don't seem to be managed, the same thing for iOS. So, I end up having to erase the device before its even deployed. So in that aspect, I don't feel its very Zero-Touch for me.

Issues I had in the past was when I was loading information into the user's machine: asset tag, department, email, etc. After talking to support discovered 1 column had to be entered before the system actually filled in the information. That's fine, but it would have been nice to know it was a requirement.

If the devices are going to another division, I setup a different pre-enrollment for them and add those devices to that enrollment. In my case (and I can be doing this wrong) I have to delete the device and then it will pick up its "new" enrollment profile. In my mind, if I move the device out of its first pre-enrollment, I erase the device it should pick up the new pre-enrollment profile.

One thing I wish would be included with Jamf is one-click compliance templates. What Kandji is doing: https://www.kandji.io/product#security

As my organization's Cyber Security Analyst, we would like to know if are devices are in proper compliance. We work with the Center for Internet Security closely so this would be a nice addy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main reason we purchased Jamf Pro was for inventory purposes on our macOS and iOS devices. What we had used previously was Meraki and it SUCKED! Now I use Jamf Pro for pushing out policies/software, printers. I'm learning to do FileVault. I wish I knew more about scripting but am learning slowly. Multi-Device Deployment - wonderful
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend Jamf to other users because they are a reliable company, they are affordable. For what we use it for Jamf works meets the needs of my organization. The user interface is palatable, settings are easy to access if you need to renew tokens for VPP, which is now under Apple School (or whatever they call it now)... :-). And the Automated Device Enrollment. I'm glad my organization went with Jamf Pro it has saved me a lot of time. Especially with deploying multiple devices for a division, or redeploying (even though it has some kinks). With any software I expect hiccups, but we can always trudge through them, finding a solution.

What do you like best about the product?
Jamf is a powerful management tool for Apple computers and devices. We feel so confident with their zero-day customer care and support. I like the way that they listen to the client's needs and requests to improve their product.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really to dislike about. Just would like to see better dashboard design also more built-in reporting tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Zero-Touch Deployments help us to manage our large number of devices easily and perfectly. Distributing apps and Configuration Profiles to the student devices during the pandemic was so helpful.

What do you like best about the product?
Jamf has been able to keep up with all the changes in macOS and iOS. An has made Apple product manageable in a enterprise environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think it would be nice, to be able to select which polices are attached to a Smart group or Static group within the groups area. That would be a big time saver for me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have been able to deploy and rebuild new "images" in our labs very easily to meet our standards.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take the Jamf Training. Its worth every penny.

Solid experience with using Jamf Pro on the Mac fleets at 3 universities

  • August 20, 2020

What do you like best about the product?
If Apple allows administrators to do something on Macs and iPads, there always seems to be a way to do it with Jamf.
What do you dislike about the product?
Support can seem slow to respond without the premium support option.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to configure our Macs at the fleet level and at the department level, to satisfy both needs. Jamf Pro enable us to do many tasks and fixes without touching the Mac or the device.

I had prior experience at 2 other universities with rolling Jamf Pro out to their fleets and the experience was consistently good there, too.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check out the unvarnished assessments of Jamf Pro in the Jamf Nation forum. There are far more positive comments than negative comments. I also recommend you search the forum for software and products used on your Macs. You will often find detailed explanations of how to deploy those items. Consider the benefits of automating those specific deployments. My guess is it will be difficult to find as much breadth of quality explanations when you do the same analysis for competing MDM tools.

What do you like best about the product?
Power of Jamf Binary and the flexibility it gives you.
What do you dislike about the product?
Default MDM mobileconfig options are messy. They contain more settings than they should.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Security management, parching, and user capabilities with Self Service
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Very powerful tool that takes time and training to fully leverage.

Jamf Pro has been AMAZING

  • August 20, 2020

What do you like best about the product?
I love how easy it is to maintain and manage macOS devices. 0-Day support of new macOS versions ensure that we are able to stay up to date with the latest Apple features and protocols.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish Jamf Pro would incorporate an in-house onboarding utility instead of relying on tools such as SplashBuddy, DEPNotify, Octory/Ceremony, etc. Also really would like to see the Jamf Pro console beefed up with retry profile push options as well as an easier way to enable/disable policies right from policy list view (tick box with enable/disable buttons) rather than editing each policy individually.Would also like to see an Icon extractor from Jamf Admin (VMware AirWatch Admin Assistant has this functionality). I would also like to see a more robust reporting utility. I have built a custom reporting dashboard based on Jamf API and also looking at MunkiReport with the Jamf integration. These items seem like an easy win for Jamf to implement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to fully manage macOS devices in a more automated and enterprise fashion. We are also getting into the Jamf API more to not only deliver troubleshooting functionality but also reporting functionality to custom dashboards.

JAMF Pro for Higher Education

What do you like best about the product?
The self service options along with the flexibility JAMF Pro give us to create unique policies and config profiles to improve the end user experience with Mac OSX. We have been able to provide software faster than ever before in a manageable way.
What do you dislike about the product?
Generally speaking there is not much to dislike. I think it does what its supposed to do well and i like the fact that it can keep up with the current versions of Mac OSX which is crucial when it comes to TCC .
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Most recently handling the TCC prompts that Mojave and Catalina OS bring to the table. Lots of users are not familiar with this new attempt at protecting OSX and sometimes fail to allow the proper apps to run. Screen sharing permissions with Zoom for example. Users click on deny not knowing they actually need to click accept. We have been able to leverage JAMF to aid us with approving items we know are ok to accept.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want a platform that works, brings value and is flexible with self service options JAMF is the product to choose. Works well with Active Directory or LDAP authentication and you can tie it in with GSX if you are lucky to have an Apple Authorized Self-Service team within your org. My techs are the ones who make things happen and they are all Apple Certified technicians which definitely gives us and edge. JAMF Pro is what they were waiting for.

What do you like best about the product?
DEP/VPP Prestage enrollment and it's ease of setup.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not being able to group App Store apps for mass deployment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meeting HIPAA and InfoSec requirements. Ease of software deployment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you manage a bunch of Apple Devices, get it. It's the easiest way to manage them. If you have an Apple Business Acct. it's even easier with auto-enroll.
