StrongDM as a single proxy secure layer for all our critical workloads.
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of integration and managing the RBAC in the system is a piece of cake, definig roles and creating ACL's specific to our usecases were always starighforward and the integration with SSO tools. Many features for automating the usecases and onbarding the dataspurces using terraform modules.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are times when the Gateways and the ACL's didnlt reflect newer changes soon but the UI has developed a lot comapred to the first few versions, some of the logging policies can change if people want to move away from the syslog storage in the gateway servers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
StrongDM provided us a way to implement an automated datasource onbaording and also implement a robust RBAC and priviliged Access management mechanism using best practices. We have multiple AWS accounts with multiple datasources like EKS, RDS, EC2 etc..., The case to use a datasource with out password and user credentials was centralized for all resources which saved us a lot of management overhead and also the case to rotate and secure the credentials often.

Great support
What do you like best about the product?
Very helpful support. They are quick to reply, friendly, and understanding.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's extra friction getting access to the database. However, its purpose is to add an extra layer of security, so it's serving its purpose.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since our company works remotely, security is very important. Having StrongDM does help not put all of the security responsible on the individual user.
Very helpful support
What do you like best about the product?
It is an easy to use tool. Employees find it easy to use. Customer support has responded very fast. Easy IAM feature
What do you dislike about the product?
The new ui update. I prefer to have a dropdown of all our sdm resources rather than a popup. Also the popup always opens behind my browser.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Instead of a VPN
An excellent tool to fulfill your JIT access needs
What do you like best about the product?
StrongDMs ease of use is one of its best features. Getting start takes only a few minutes and defining access workflows and onboarding users is a breeze. We were able to integrate StrongDM into our existing infrastructure in under an hour. The SSH replay and DB query auditing are top notch and helps give us confidence that we know what is being done with privileged access when it is granted.
When we had a few questions about how to accomplish certain tasks within StrongDM, their support was quick to respond and helpful. In cases where a functionality wasn't available they logged a feature request for us so that the development team would consider it for the future.

What do you dislike about the product?
We haven't encountered any real downsides to StrongDM as of yet. The only thing that it lacks which we would love to have is a multi-level approval workflow that'd require multiple people to approve access. Based on discussions with their team this is on their roadmap and at the current time we could accomplish it if we had a ServiceNow integration. Beyond that though, StrongDM has everything we need to satisfy our use case and we're very pleased with the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
StrongDM is solving the just-in-time access problem for us with full auditing of what is done in those access sessions. It helps give us confidence about what is being done and by who in addition to scoping access to only small windows of time.
A reasonably good solution if you're willing to pay for enterprise
What do you like best about the product?
Managing access well is a challenging problem, and their solution is more complete than most I've evaluated. Getting everything StrongDM has to offer in a single competitor is difficult. They are reasonably easy to implement and integrate into your system, and their approach to connecting to databases and SSH endpoints is reasonably easy to use.
Also, I love that they do not participate in the "SSO Tax" nonsense -- all tiers of service have access to federated access through an IDP. This should be table stakes in 2024, but sadly it is still all too rare.
I also appreciate that they are bucking the trend a bit on pricing. The "Enterprise" label with a "contact us for pricing" note typically sets the expectation that the increase is going to be astronomical. That does not seem to be StrongDM's approach, and it's worth talking to them about the pricing.

Using StrongDM to access HTTP/S endpoints is considerably more painful than the alternatives, and the SSH authentication methodology isn't great, as it creates and manages its own key instead of simply acting as a CA that signs your existing key. Even with the way they sign the key they don't fully support the SSH spec which limits your access control options on the SSH server itself.
Overall it sits in that place that does what you need, with less frustration than alternatives, but at the essentials tier it falls into the "good not great" space.
Once you jump to enterprise it improves a good bit, adding key features that are important to most of us who would implement something like this, including reports around access, log streaming, and API-based access to audit data.
I do wish they had a middle-ground between the two, as essentials is too limited for most organizations, but enterprise, while a great set of features, is probably more than many organizations need.

StrongDM enables us to restrict access on a user-level. While VPNs can provide some of this, restricting access to specific resources in a target network at the IP or TCP/UDP level can be difficult and error-prone. StrongDM enables us to control that more effectively, while still supporting the broad array of tooling that our internal teams use, from IDEs and GUI tools down to terminal tools and even shell scripts in a convenient manner. It not only improves our ability to ensure least-privilege access, it allows for easier rotation of authentication data on the backend systems without user impact, and allows us to audit the work that is being done in those systems and by whom.
A mature solution for dynamic access control.

What do you like best about the product?
The power of SDM is the simplictly it brings to a simple day to day tasks.
The idea that protected cloud resources are just apporachable directly for every team member, directly from his workstation is irreplaceable.
The frequency of use is - always. every developer or product member uses it all the time.
The customer support is really cool with very good SLA.
The integration with the environment and the implementation was really easy, just created an EC2, installed SDM and received immideit value.

What do you dislike about the product?
It would help if you had a capable team to manage it.
There are also a lot of useful features that are coming shortly but for the moment the core features are there and working decently well with few bugs.
The price is not for everyone.
