Buyer who spends 8 hrs a day in Maximo

  • July 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's fairly easy to use, customized to my company, & usually doesn't have bugs.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a major learning curve - it's not always intuitive & clearly designed by people who aren't experienced in the roles it's designed FOR.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I spend the majority of my day working through Maximo. It's our operations, materials, & procurement management online platform.

What do you like best about the product?
Maximo Asset Management by IBM combines asset management with maintenance management. From a single system, companies can monitor and manage the complete lifecycle of their enterprise assets, including facilities, communications, transportation, production, infrastructure, and more. This centralized functionality ensures that users have visibility and control over active conditions and processes, while increasing productivity and reducing downtime.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maximo is a very "all inclusive" software that can be used for whatever your business needs are; flexible enough to adapt to your company; and meets industry best practices to help establish process standards. Maximo UI is very easily configurable to provide a look that suits your needs and allows your legacy process workflow to be automated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When looking at software of this nature, consider having all your processes and related data in a single database. There will always be some integration necessary, however, consider Maximo as an ERP system that can manage most, if not all, of your needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Continue in this direction, I think that establishing in France is a good thing. Maximo can be very complex during initial implementations and some upgrades.

Powerful product but bloated and non intuitive. Also expensive.

What do you like best about the product?
My current organization used Assyst and this is MUCH better and more capable. We use it for management of Incidents, Service Requests and Changes which works great. You can attach documents and notifications work great, as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not very intuitive, however, and is very expensive between the implementation and custom development (Maximo developers are expensive!). There are cheaper products (or free) out there, that's for sure, that will give you the same functionality. As well, we are looking for ways to dynamically update IT assets (workstations, servers, routers, etc) but there appears to be no way to do that. Reporting is also very limited without springing for the extra reporting module.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Management of IT Incidents, Service Requests and Changes.

What do you like best about the product?
The best feature is the customizable desktop for techinicians. You can customize what each users sees in their main screen. This is great as you can put technical requests for techs, KPIs and reports for Quality Analysts, etc.
It is very important to perform a very detailed analysis of which your requirements will be at the beginning to ensure the initial configuration of the tool is well done. Not only for support teams, but also for the kind of services you will be handling from the tool. Maximo offers a bunch of data attributes to fill in, it is important you understand them, how they interact between each other, and how you would like to obtain the reports and data extracts. Maximo already has some default reports but you can develop new reports with the information you like, but don't forget to ensure all the fields you need are able to be reported. Some of them might not show up.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maybe it has too many fields that most of the organizations will never use as it is very demanding to fulfill them all.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was able to develop a lot of automated reports with combined data from multiple sources.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is important that if you acquire this product with IBM support of it, you request a dedicated database for you. Because if you share the database with other customers (even though you don't see the other customers, of course), customizing the tool becomes really complicated and the tool's response times go really down.
