Redpanda
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to install/upgrade/manage on self hosted. The performance are great.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some limits on the serverless and cloud versions. The helm chart for self hosted is ok, but missing some secrets configuration.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing kafka is a pain.
We need a kafka compatible solution with topic storage offloading.

Super easy to setup, great speed and great customer support.
What do you like best about the product?
We used Redpanda is the backbone of our event-driven architecture. It was incredibly easy to setup, and super easy to use. We used the basic Kafka APIs in Python/Java/Go and nothing had to change, we just pointed at the Redpanda brokers rather than the Kafka Brokers. The speed was very good and overall it was exactly what we needed. The UI is also pretty decent and let us see what was happening pretty quickly.
The customer support was top-notch as well, and they hopped on our requests as soon as we notified them.

What do you dislike about the product?
This is more of a kafka beef than anything, but some of our message sizes were larger so we had to use Redpanda to notify our other components to fetch data from an S3 bucket (data-poor), rather than passing the data-rich messages. I tried to shove 80MB into a message and while it "worked" it took a very long time. That was on me though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Redpanda helped us with our event handling and data processing pipelines.
Great low cost alternative for kafka compliant data streaming
What do you like best about the product?
There are quite a few highlights. Working with the Redpanda team has been a really smooth process, during the sales and onboarding times especially. The team has been quite responsive and the slack channel for questions and tickets has been easy to use. The trial gave us ample time to validate our use case and confirm our estimates for data use.
The other real benefit comes from the pricing. Redpanda has allowed my small team the flexibility with learning as we build out our platform without worrying about going through our entire budget in a week or two, whereas some other data streaming platforms require an ironclad understanding of how much data you're putting into the system.

What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest downside so far revolves around the maturity of the product. Setting up a local environment still requires some deeper knowledge of data streaming and some other open source tools. Some of the documentation isn't complete, and features that are available in other platforms require a little bit of guesswork and experimentation to figure out.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Redpanda is solving streaming data and distribution, and it is benefitting us by allowing our application to scale horizontally.
Great people, great product.
What do you like best about the product?
I was looking for alternatives to Kafka as we are not a Java shop and are low on headcount and found Redpanda during my search. Data streaming is new to the company so Redpanda spent a lot of time with us coaching and helping us understand the pros and cons of various solutions and communicated with us daily during our trial. In the end, we loved the Bring-Your-Own-Cloud (BYOC) solution where Redpanda manages the health of the cluster but the data stays in our environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far everything has been great. There are a few products that I was excited to try that work with Kafka, but not Redpanda, but that was because they rely on Kafka's ZooKeeper. A very happy tradeoff for us as much of the benefit of Redpanda is that there is no need for ZooKeeper.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were looking to handle stream processing and data enrichment with telematics data with low overhead and Redpanda has been a core part of that strategy. We were able to get up and running very quickly and have no had any issues so far with the managed BYOC solution.
Efficient, Helpful, Knowledgeable
What do you like best about the product?
Their team is incredibly helpful and their product is very useful. Not needing to deploy zookeeper is a huge plus for us, and their enterprise features are well worth the contract.
What do you dislike about the product?
They're not as well known or widely used as they should be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ease of deployment, enterprise support, kafka replacement.
Best Streaming Platform Developer Experience
What do you like best about the product?
It works. It's incredibly performant. It's reliable. It's easy to use. And it's well documented. What else could you want in a streaming platform. It does everything that Kafka does. It does things that Kafka doesn't.
Want to spin up a fully featured multi-cluster node in docker-compose for testing or dev work? Easy.
Got a question? Super thourough documentation, and support.
And it supports higher thoughput than Kafka, while consuming less resources.
I cannot recommend it enough as a streaming platform.

What do you dislike about the product?
I have been using Redpanda fairly heavily for three years, and don't have anything bad to say about it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We want an event streaming platform that is more than anything reliable, and able to handle huge rates of data. Higher rates than we could get through Kafka. And Redpanda handles both.
RedPanda drives our event driven architecture.
What do you like best about the product?
RedPanda is a single binary which makes it much simpler to operate than other Kafka distributions. This allows us to develop and test faster and deploy more frequently.
Their managed clusters have been rock solid, and their support is really helpful.
Switching to RedPanda was very easy for us, as we were already using Kafka. There were zero code changes necessary.

What do you dislike about the product?
There were a few operational difficulties at the beginning our managed cluster journey. We were on their first versions of managed clusters. The next version came out shortly after we started, which meant we were already faced with a migration.
This was a one time event, and we were early-ish adopters, so I don't anticipate any further disruptions of this sort.

RedPanda is our platform event streaming. We use it to stream events between microservices. We also use it as a source for our data analysts get access to our application data and glean meaningful insights.
Seamless Integration and Exceptional Support
What do you like best about the product?
We've been leveraging Redpanda's BYOC cluster for around two years. It has become a core component of our system, particularly for service-to-service communication, and it shines for its user-friendliness and seamless integration. What really enhances our experience is the exceptional customer support and account management—always outstanding in their service. Their quick and considerate responses have been pivotal during our implementation, helping us overcome obstacles efficiently and ensuring our development and operations proceed without a hitch
What do you dislike about the product?
While Redpanda has been a great asset to our system, I believe there's room for improvement in the area of connectors. Specifically, it would be highly beneficial to have a broader range of built-in connectors available. Additionally, simplifying the process for integrating custom connectors would be a welcome change.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our system is built around an Event-Driven architecture, with Redpanda serving as the backbone for all our service-to-service communications

Great Product, Great Service
What do you like best about the product?
We chose redpanda as a self hosted Kafka compatible solution for internal app messaging, as a replacement for AWS SQS. What we liked was the ease of implementation within our kubernetes cluster. Not having to use zookeeper or any of the other hassles with a kafka install is great for us. Since it has full parity with kafka features, our developers are able to use off the shelf integrations to connect, which is extremely helpful. Customer Support was great during our initial implementation, and they were fully available to answer our questions and help us through our stumbles quickly.
We've expanded usage of redpanda across our entire engineering organization, it's been easy for us to expand into, and is fast enough that we never have to worry about throughput.

What do you dislike about the product?
We've updated redpanda a few times since we've used it, and it's sometimes a struggle to make sure that we're deploying the helm charts correctly -- they tend to change quite a bit.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for several purposes around IoT processing. RedPanda handles messaging between our subsystems well.
