We built an accessible website by using Contentful

  • January 26, 2023
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Contentful forces you to think about the way the content is structured. You need to create a Content Model for each different piece of content.

For example, we built a website that is heavily based on code samples. We have created a CodeSample object, which contains one or more CodeBlock objects. A CodeBlock is written in a certain ProgrammingLanguage, and that ProgrammingLanguage is available on a certain Platform. This setup allowed us to write multi-platform code samples in a structured way.

Our team also liked that Contentful comes with a GraphQL API to retrieve content in any way you can think of. Plus, we saved time by using the Typescript client library in our project.

It also helped us a lot that the features of Contentful are documented extensively.
What do you dislike about the product?
When we started using Contentful, there was no support for tables. This was a big downside for us, as we heavily used tables in our old website. You had to create your UI extension to create tables. In April 2022 we were delighted to read that Contentful now supported Tables in Rich Text.

When you have a lot of content, finding the exact piece of content you need to edit can become difficult. It helps to filter based on Content Model and to write good internal names for your content pieces.

You often need to click through multiple levels of content to reach the piece you are looking for. Each level overlays the other, once you have 5+ levels it becomes challenging to remember each underlaying layer in the editor.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Contentful helped us to structure our content, and is now helping us to keep our website accessible because we have full control over the data which needs to be entered. For example, we have made it opt-out to write an alt-text for each image, instead of opt-in like most Content Management Systems.

Contentful's professional services team made our platform migration a breeze

  • January 17, 2023
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Contentful's professional services team helped us quickly and efficiently migrate our content from Drupal. They were highly responsive to questions, suggested solutions to complex challenges, and were a pleasure to work with all around. I can confidently say that our re-platforming efforts would've taken much longer with many more roadblocks if we had not had their support.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's very little I disliked! Obviously, they were a support mechanism and couldn't do the work for us, so we still had to figure out some problems on our own. However, there was never a problem that I couldn't address with them, and they were able to assist as much as possible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our previous CMS was not meeting our needs. It was laborious to make content updates and imposed limitations on our digital experience. By contrast, Contentful's content platform allows for a seamless authoring experience that can scale across all of our digital properties.

Best CMS for Content As A Service Implementation

  • December 31, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As I have worked on other CMS systems such as Wordpress and AEM, I like contentful for its easy-to-use interface. As it follows the content model approach, you can create your own data structure and then use it without any restrictions on Data Set. Content Editing and retrieving the authored content is straightforward. Pricing is justifiable with respect to the features it offers.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it has a learning curve for people migrating from traditional CMS. You might need to use the different screens to author the content and preview it. Page linking is not possible, you might need to build custom data set.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it to author content for our website, we do have a plan to use the exact data for our Android App which is in the pipeline. It has helped us to organize our data and secure it.

Great CMS if you have a dedicated implementation team to support Content Creation

  • December 13, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility coming from components structure.
What do you dislike about the product?
Too much dependencies from Product Team/Dev team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Components helps out to create new pages reusing already existing structures, without asking Dev team to create every team a. new dedicated template.

Great overall experience with the platform

  • December 08, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is simple and flat. It was easy to adapt. Most of our developers enjoy using Contentful, easy-to-build or find already-built Apps (widgets; you guys chose a confusing name).
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not have something in particular that I dislike. Maybe taking the flat structure a level too high. I would like to have folders at least for the assets. It would make organizing easier when used from other places over the Assets API. When using your cloud UI, it works great, but its quite a nightmare when we have to use that in our applications directly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Very simple, but powerful tool. Makes it easier to integrate in our current setup. Especially for assets its a game changer. Now our products are in sync so we only need to use one set of assets.

One of the most capable and stable content managers.

  • December 07, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- The ease of use;
- It is very unlikely to experience a crash, freeze or some unknown error while using Contentful;
- Modifying an existing article or writing and publishing a new one is very easy;
- The possibility of sending pushes (notificiations) to mobile devices;
- More stable compared to other content managers;
- Working with the different versions is excellent as well;
What do you dislike about the product?
- Uploading and editing the details (title, description, link, alt attribute etc.) of an image is not so straightforward and probably requires too many clicks - It would be helpful if the image workflow process were redesigned.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- Trying to edit an already published article is much easier with Contentful;
- Sending a mobile notification (push) only to users in a particular geographical area;
- Recovering older versions of an article;

100% customizable and reliable

  • December 07, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The level of customization we got with it. Also, it's not simple, but all the team got to understand, and Marketing is now free to create content fast.
What do you dislike about the product?
The nested approach of components is what was more complext to explain to the team. And it has sometimes created problems, especially during the first weeks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Enabling all teams create and modify our webpage, without needing any dev work.

Great headless CMS with many features out of the box and a great API and CLI

  • December 06, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Contentful has a user-friendly interface, the ability to create and manage content in multiple languages, and its robust API, making it easy to integrate with other applications and services. Additionally, Contentful offers a flexible and scalable architecture that allows users to quickly and easily create and manage content for websites, apps, and other digital channels.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its learning curve can be steep for users new to content management systems. Additionally, some users may find the platform complex and overwhelming, with many features and options that can be difficult to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have multiple pages editable by many cross-functional teams at my company. We sometimes want to keep things open to some groups and not for other groups. Contentful has a good Role Based Access Management approach that helps us keep the gates in place.
