Asana helps my nonprofit manage small and large projects with ease
What do you like best about the product?
Love that you can use Board or List views depending on user preference. Task and sub-task ease of use and simplicity was important to my team and Asana's straight forward concepts and design were very effective for us. Team setup and collaboration was very easy to get up and running quickly. Also love that they provide easy access to my projects in my web browser, a dedicated desktop application, or mobile app. Lastly, Asana seems to care about nonprofits and provides us with basic features without costing us a lot of money. We're using the free version now as we have a small team (< 10), but will most likely be moving to a paid (but discounted) license soon with full adoption amongst nearly all employees.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only product feature that I've either not found or doesn't exist is the ability to enter tasks/sub-tasks with completion dates in the past. There are times we need to enter work that's already been completed and marking a task as complete records the current date only. To be fair, I've not done much work to find a solution outside of the Asana interface so it could be something easily resolved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've got multiple staff members that use a wide array of online tools and services for project management/collaboration, including things like Trello, Monday, Slack, and even just Google/Excel spreadsheets. We needed a central platform to track internal projects that allowed all staff to get up and running quickly with basic features that don't overwhelm us. So far, Asana has fit that bill nicely. We've tracked/documented our first project in Asana over the last few months and it's proved so helpful and easy to use, we're going to be using it for all future projects with all staff members once we find time to do some training and establish internal standards and best practices on its use.
