How to Asana?

  • November 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Shared visibility like google docs/sheets
What do you dislike about the product?
too complicated, Maybe it was me or their system but it's just all over the place.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sales related, nice to have the ability to share docs between team members
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Research it first, and have someone dedicated to organizing it, not every user

Review of Asana

  • November 11, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that everyone on the team can update their tasks so that everyone knows what each person is doing that week and how much bandwidth they may have(if any) to help on something else
What do you dislike about the product?
Asana is kind of a pain in the butt...I always have to click around so many times before my cursor is where I want it to be because its so glitchy. I always start typing a task and instead of the letters appearing where my cursor clicked they appear on some random line. I have to play with it a lot to get it to do what I want.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows for project management where everyone is on the same page and doesnt have to individually tell the other members what they are up to each week. It allows for focus on risks and issues which is important to any successful project
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana has less issues when used in google chrome but my company has all their stuff set up for explorer

Unnecessary Task Management

  • October 22, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I haven't really found a lot that Asana is actually useful for.
What do you dislike about the product?
It tries to replace task management with software. I don't know if this is good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My workplace has Asana, but it is not very efficient at tasks.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
To complicated, to many categories, to much notifications
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You have to spend time to understand it

Useful if actually used by supervisors

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate that tasks can be assigned remotely and all relevant information about the task can be provided in one place. I also appreciate that multiple Asana users can add to a "comment chain" within a task, allowing progress on the task to be updated by multiple people. Assignment of the task can also be transferred and new workers can be added to the task. It is useful when being introduced into a new job to see the timeline of a task, who has been involved so far, and what materials may be useful in consulting.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find that Asana really depends on the users to actually assign the tasks and on the recipient to check what they have been assigned and when it is due. The email updates are helpful, but sometimes feel cluttered with information about the task, such as the chain. People tend to be very brief in their notes, but this may not be the tools fault.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the need for constant in-person check-ins or emailing about tasks, since they can just be assigned to anyone in the office through Asana, with all relevant info like timeline or linked materials included. It's far more reliable than handwriting my tasks or relying on multiple emails about a specific task.

Wasn't for me- too complicated

What do you like best about the product?
I like that you can share work tasks within a team, and have different teams for different projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
I really could not get the hang of this, even after watching the training video and getting a lesson from a coworker. This isn't for me. I much prefer my own internal lists to get things done.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I know others on my team like it because it keeps them organized, shows what is outstanding and who's in charge of what. You can see the big picture of the entire project and its to-do's.

Email Fatigue and Confusion

  • September 24, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
the ability to move tasks around, report status, and attach files is fairly straight forward. The ability attach a file and mark it up with comments is great, however the markup tool is extremely limited.
What do you dislike about the product?
The notifications. Everything in Asana sends you an email. It's insane how much email this service generates and how uninviting and confusing/cluttered the user interface is. The markup tool is a nice start, but cannot be enlarged or use PDF files at this time. The markup tool does not allow for images to be rotated or enlarged, which limits a lot of true function. Aside from the promise of the markup tool, this is my least favorite project management experience by far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
None. This service buries my inbox, confuses our team endlessly, and we're only still tied to it because we made such a big push to get it online.

    Media Production

Asana...if you're into that sorta thing.

  • May 05, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is great for a particular type of organizational mind. If you're that type, enjoy it to its fullest.
What do you dislike about the product?
Asana looks and feels like an emotionless pit of soul crushing tasks that will haunt you until completed. The design team could have truly used more tactical empathy training.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Partners have used Asana to deliver film production notes. This could be very efficient, and at its core, it is. However, the delivery method and experience of Asana is not built for creatives, and therefore, it is polarizing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use it to deliver tasks for your team if the tool fits your leadership style.

    Education Management

Not new user friendly

  • April 23, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
In theory, it has all of the built in functions I need (task assignment, creation of subtasks with deadlines, attachment of files, etc)
What do you dislike about the product?
The overall design is neither appealing nor efficient. It is not easy to navigate or easily track progress without multiple clicks. It lacks the visual cleanliness of other project management programs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're testing it out to use for project run by the education team but completed by others. At this point, many people are just ignoring it and using their own tracking methods since asana is a pain
