A Good Cloud Based Project Management Tool

  • July 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We've been using Asana for five years now as our project management tool in our division's marketing communications department at a major university. We like the fact that Asana is cloud based and can be accessed from any Internet browser at anytime, day or night. It has allowed us to better manage all of the details associated with the management of marketing projects -- from request through to completion. We also like the fact that we can store and manage associated project files (such as InDesign, PDF, images, and video) both inside of Asana and through connections to our cloud storage services. As a university we appreciated that many features were available at the free price point, which allowed us to get started and build a business case for a paid license.
What do you dislike about the product?
Asana offers several direct connections to other apps and tools, like OneDrive, and you can connect a few more using services like IFTTT but that requires either technical help and someone with the time and patience to set them up. For project intake, for example, we use a Qualtrics survey that sends a triggered email to a generic Asana project eamil address. We then have our PM monitor that "intake" project in Asana to move requests into their own projects, which is time consuming and means data has to be rekeyed to start new projects as new requests are received. It is also frustrating that some services, like reporting, require some of the most expensive plans to access. Reporting is really a basic function of project management!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a way to manage marketing, communications, PR, and event projects across a team that is located in different buildings across a large university campus. We also wanted a way, through guest-like access, for employees to be able to see the progress on their projects as they moved from initiation to completion.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have your project management process mapped out before your begin the vendor review process. We had a "rough idea" of what we wanted in a PM tool, but as we got into implementation, we realized that Asana wouldn't be able to do some things we had just assumed (like auto-process intake request forms). Now that we have a better handle on what our needs are, it will be easier to do vendor selections in the future if we were to switch from Asana.

Workflow

What do you like best about the product?
Knowing where in the timeline a project is & being able to communicate directly on it - offering additional support or adjusting other tasks to ensure timeliness.
What do you dislike about the product?
The ability for multiple people to update - if a change in status or update is needed, it would be best for the project owner to accept the update so they are aware of it too.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana is great for event planning to ensure timelines are met and everyone is staying on task. It’s allowed the need for multiple emails to notate a task is completed which saves time.

Solid project management tool and personal organizer - good for complex projects

  • July 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that there are several formats to choose from to organize projects b/w Kanban, list, etc. It's easy to collaborate, the UI is nice and appealing and it's just easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that it's not better supported in my organization so we don't feel the full impact of the collaboration activities. I don't have any qualms with the functionality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Asana both for team projects and personal projects. Personally, it helps me keep an organized to-do list and more structured and tactical strategic methods to work with customers.
On a team basis, it's helpful to work asynchronously with teammates but keep them in the loop by assigning tasks and tagging in notes, etc. Board organization really helps.

PM that clearly shows you the progress.

What do you like best about the product?
You are able to develop complex graphs to show the progress of yours, of course, if the project is actually delayed, the graphs also can show the effect and upcoming initiatives of the delay on the venture. Within this way you are able to look at specific customers, from which you are able to assign various duties to totally different users. In by doing this you receive an introduction of each user. The user interface is easy and simple to work with. The calendar feature will help you to monitor appointments. Asana provides a great integration using Google, Slack and other tools to actually connect it with some other existing tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
The task perspective could be made better and look much more efficient. Its export functionality is actually unsatisfactory, making exporting hard. Some mobile application features are actually limited. It's not easy to print a calendar with tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana has been perfect for tracking tasks and ensuring they're shipped on time. All computer users have access rights, which means you are able to quickly set up jobs for every one of them.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a wonderful platform for planning and managing collaboration in case you are able to make your staff do it.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that there are different ways to make task lists. Also, the inbox helps let you know what has come in recently.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like that there is no app to download on your computer. That would be so helpful!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to organize my tasks and keep my colleagues in the loop. We are also able to break in down into different batches.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely try it out. It's very helpful and is a great way to connect with your colleagues on projects.

What do you like best about the product?
I love the way you can see your project in diferents views (Table, Gantt chart,Calendar). It's great to monitoring the work in small and medium groups.
I love the design.
What do you dislike about the product?
I used Asana when it was free. It would be nice if they can offer a free acount for personal use. Maybe a cheaper plan for small groups.

Project Management Made EASY!

  • July 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the transparency and efficiency that Asana provides. I can easily check the status of a project and see who is working on what. Allows our business to plan and prioritize with ease.
I use Asana template feature for team meetings and training schedules. Make sit super easy to update training and to keep track of it as well. I have had 3 new hires since March. Asana made the remote onboarding easy because I was able to check training progress, add notes, answer questions, and get my team training fast.

I also love how Asana markets and keep us engaged. Constantly updating and keeping users informed.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't much that I dislike. Maybe making it easier to add sections and milestones from the bullet rather than having to go to the top of the page to do so.

I'd like to explore the integrations Asana has. I haven't looked into that very much.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Saving time
Can easily see who is working on what and when things will be completed. The deadlines have been very helpful especially because our company works interdepartmental
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana is great for individual use to multi departmental use. Other than project planning, Asana is great for creating to-do lists, training schedules, meeting agendas
