Very Flexible and Intuitive Project Management Tool

  • June 29, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana has all the bases covered for a project management tool. You can track projects at a high level, multiple projects across your organization, all the way down to tasks and subtasks. The portfolio view is useful for seeing high level details about an individual project while the project view lets you drill down as far as you need to go on a project. You can also use the update feature to automatically send out requests to different users for status updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
A premium subscription is required to maximize the utility of this software. Also, to get the most out of the workload feature, you need to be very granular in your planning and assigning of tasks. No support for adding vacation time as it relates to workload management (but there is an easy workaround for this). The forms feature isn't as flexible as I would like.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Asana to gain much more insight into our development team's workload and our software roadmap. We are also using Asana to track all of the feature requests of our different products.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Much simpler to use than the alternatives and seem to be adding new features on a regular basis. Has the features of the big name project planning tools but in an easy to use interface.

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is a great tool for project management at all levels. It helps integrate and coordinate communication flows between people, processes, and departments so that everyone knows what they are supposed to do.
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact that there are some things like subtasks that seem a little disorganized on list view
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mainly putting processes into a platform that is accessible by any stakeholder in the company. It gives people tasks and ownership.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look at the help docs when doubts on implementing they have all the best use cases explained in high level of detail.

Asana transformed the effectiveness of our team's meetings

What do you like best about the product?
We love being able to track our program's long-term vision and goals, while also tracking our effectiveness through short-term tasks and projects. We made a rule that all communication within our department should take place within Asana and Outlook should only be used for contacting external stakeholders. By implementing these processes, we are able to find and engage with all department conversations more effectively. Much of what would take up our time during meetings can be quickly decided using the comments and updates features of tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the most helpful features in the "Business" pricing level of is "Portfolio" where a director or supervisor could gauge the health of all projects in one place. We only pay for "Premium" and can't justify more than doubling our cost for that one feature. Better integration of Microsoft Outlook calendars would be a wonderful value add. It would be awesome if the calendar views of Asana would sync with our Outlook calendars.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As mentioned, Asana has transformed our meetings. In the past, we would write down meeting items, fail to create action items, and would inevitably talk about the same ideas and needs week after week after week without any real progress. Asana is the tool we needed to track meeting agendas, have effective conversations, then track actionable items between meetings. We've even experienced weeks where we cancel meetings because all agenda items have been solved within the conversations taking place in Asana. We are beginning to track projects from start to finish and this has helped us ensure that all actionable items fit within the vision of the projects. Asana has focused and connected our team in the age of remote work.

What do you like best about the product?
Literally, all of it. I've been using Asana for 5 years and I'm a certified pro, so...really, everything. I'd say transparency is the key term I use when testifying.
What do you dislike about the product?
Difficult to realize all of the many features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Transparency again, setting deadlines and having a central place to review the status of work, agreed upon deadlines and docs, without bugging someone.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Think of how you'd ideally like to manage project; Asana can probably do it.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's versatile, easy to use, aesthetically pleasing, it allows you to create, organize and manage multiple projects at once and easily see how you are progressing with each. I love that you basically have an automated to-do list every day and you just need to think about execution.
What do you dislike about the product?
The mobile app is not as easy to use and complete, it can be improved, especially the interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I manage my online coaching business, my personal projects and I assist my clients on their projects. With Asana you can have a lot on your plate and feel calm and in control because everything is so clean and clear.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The set up might be intimidating but it's well worth the time and effort.
Use it for all your projects without worrying about the nature of the projects, it works for any kind of work.
Use the list view for more strategic projects and the board view for more creating projects.

Using Asana every day - Just love it

  • June 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
How easy it is to use and the mobile app is really convenient
More features being implemented regularly
What do you dislike about the product?
Exporting tasks into spreadsheet feature should be improved a bit further
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps a lot with project management or even all day to day tasks. Having them in Asana helps to ensure nothing is being missed. Communication with team members on a specific topic is organized in Asana under the relevant tasks, with project updates, etc
I also like the recent feature of marking notes with thumbs up this helps also when many comments are in a task and you are going through them to ensure nothing is being missed. For this the thumbs up feature helps a lot.
Benefits for the team: More organized way of working
Board feature is great as well and that finally can switch between list and board view
It also allows me to create new project templates that the whole team can use and update.
I love that tasks can be tagged under various projects as this helps especially when coordinating projects that you can tag the most important tasks to be monitored in a separate project that not everybody has access to.
Nice is also the comment only feature that can be set and the custom fields are really helpful too.

Asana constantly works on further improving their tool, they also listen to what features users would love to have. Literally every week there are news about new things being implemented :)

I can really recommend Asana for everybody, whether you are an individual that just needs to organize some things like shopping list or other kinds of to-do-lists or small and also big teams.
I am using Asana every day on my desktop and phone.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start by going through the Asana guide as it has a lot of tips and tricks. And then get started directly by creating your first team, project and task. With time you will find out all the features that Asana has to offer and normally it is very fast to get used to everything :)

The Right Fit

  • June 25, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love details! Asana allows me to get as detailed as I want in my tasks and projects. I can have layers of subtasks or a broad overview depending upon the needs of my clients. Equally as important...Asana has character! I love the celebratory narwhals and disco ball unicorns! This easy flowing mix of business and light-hearted fun feels like just the fit for me and my business!
What do you dislike about the product?
I would really love to have all of my Asana workspaces integrated into one dashboard so that I don't have to toggle between clients. The ability to pull together all of my clients' workspaces into a single source of truth for the projects that need my focus would be amazing! Additionally, having a more robust chat integration with a searchable framework would eliminate the need for Voxer or Slack. Right now I am forced to take client messages from these platforms and add them into tasks or projects within Asana. This takes up valuable time and also means something might get missed if it's not addressed/transferred immediately.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communications around projects is efficient within Asana allowing for fewer details to fall through the cracks. I love that I can create a follow-up task from an @ mention that appears in my inbox! Asana has made me more productive and given me much more peace. If I get things OUT of my brain and INTO Asana then I can rest easy that all will be accomplished on time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I absolutely recommend Asana to anyone who's ever laid awake at night worrying about all of the tasks on their plate. Get those tasks out of your head and into Asana and realize a new peace of mind!

Running multiple websites, I've streamlined my posting processes and so much more.
