Solid Project Management Tool
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the ability to create different teams and different projects. Great way for dividing up work and keeping teams who work on projects together organized.
What do you dislike about the product?
Wish it was easier to control who is allowed to assign tasks - sometimes the project owner should be the only one assigning tasks. Also, being able to edit documents within the program would be helpful - the last time I used, you can share documents, but you have to download edit and re-upload. This can create confusing with multiple docs in the program. To work around, my company used google docs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping track of tasks for diverse projects when multiple members from different teams.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Initial set up and implementation is key. Making sure everyone in your organization understands how to use the program is important. It is also important that everyone switches to using the program at the same time. We experienced issues when only some departments were fully using, creating confusion for whether or not tasks were getting completed, read, or assigned.
Great free web-based service
What do you like best about the product?
We moved to a Kanban methodology, and Asana made it so much easier with a team that's in two separate locations. Our workflow is much smoother.
What do you dislike about the product?
The amount of emails you get at first can be a little overwhelming, but it's easy to change the settings to a more manageable level. We are also a high-volume team, so sometimes things get a little lost, but I don't necessarily think that's an issue with the software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has allowed us to be more efficient as a team by streamlining our workflow. We've been able to redistribute work where appropriate and identify and solve bottlenecks in our processes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is a great free product!
It's fine
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate that Asana provides a place to keep track of all parts of a task as well as the deliverables
What do you dislike about the product?
It doesn't seem to me to be different from many other products that are out there or that I've used. It's also confusing for me to find the things I need to find.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This is great for my organization since folks aren't really able to keep track of deadlines and deliverables. They still can't keep track of deadlines, but at least there's a place to refer to for deadlines and keep people accountable.
Asana Team and Work Tracking
What do you like best about the product?
The best part of Asana is the effortless task focussed communication. The system simultaneously tracks the details of projects being worked on along with the communication surrounding those details. It is all very natural. There is a free version available for smaller groups and it is quite powerful. It is only recently that we upgraded to the paid version in order to access the project dependencies and time management functions available within Asana.
What do you dislike about the product?
I selected the product and found it difficult to navigate and use. However my staff naturally took to it and a year or two after adopting Asana our whole company project management and task oriented communication was being managed by it. Staff gave me a training on how they had adopted it and I came to appreciate its power. I would say it wasn't initially obvious how to properly use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have succeeded at speeding up the implementation of some rather large software development projects. Asana helps to keep track of all the sub-tasks within a project and ensures that they are being dealt with. Communication and the history of discussion around each task is maintained in perpetuity.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana makes communication smoother for large and small projects.
Intro to Project Management
What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's free for basic uses and small teams. Quick to lean. We have team members of various "technological knowledge" who have been able to master using it. Personally, I also like how it will send polite reminders to others when something is due from them.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the controls when creating or removing tasks (or groups of tasks) can be tricky. For example, if you accidentally hit enter you will create another task line. But then you have to go into a menu to delete it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Upper management is able to check in on what the team is working on without directly asking. It's also allowed us more autonomy because the work gets done without micromanagement.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Since the basic version is free, get in there and try it out before you determine if it's right for you!
A great resource if the whole company is on board!
What do you like best about the product?
I'm the only one in my company that uses Asana to keep track of my tasks and projects, so I'm not using it to it's fullest potential. Since no one else is using it, I can't delegate tasks and have online conversations about projects with my coworkers, but I can imagine this tool would be incredible if a company was very technological.
What do you dislike about the product?
It was a little difficult to start using, but most of it is more of an internal struggle weather you want to add something as a task or a project. It's easy to reorganize your tasks though should you need to change them. Overall, it takes a little time, but then you get the hang of it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main business problem I'm solving (as the sole user) is being more organized. Paper and pen are great tools, and I still enjoy writing things down, but having an electronic tracking system is beneficial too. Plus, I really love that they have reports on how many tasks have been completed to give you an idea of how successful everyone is at time management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think this is a great tool for a large company with many hands working on the same tasks. My corporate office is small, about 40 people, and we are very cost conscious so it's hard to implement with a small team. I can imagine for a large company with 40 people working on one project, this would be an extremely beneficial tool!
New Timeline feature-perfect timing Asana
What do you like best about the product?
The first week of every quarter we have a strategy week. This feature has made it easier to plan out the whole quarter for our team!
What do you dislike about the product?
So far, I haven't found anything to dislike about this feature-I'm looking forward to this for long-term projects to see how effective it is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides an at-a-glance view of what is happening now on a project and what's to come. It's easy to use and the layout is attractive and simple.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The direction Asana is heading is going to be extremely helpful for our team and increase our efficiency. They continue to add features that really work and we really need.
Amazing Tool for Productivity
What do you like best about the product?
The best part about Asana is the versatility of it. I can imagine it being used in every workplace as well as by people outside of work for their day to day tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not necessarily anything I dislike about this website. Perhaps it could be easier to format tasks and their different subcategories.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Organization & Clarity of what needs to be completed
Love, LOVE this product!
What do you like best about the product?
I love the simplicity, yet efficiency of the product. It's user-friendly, easy to learn, easy to keep up with. I've used it on multiple projects with a couple of different teams. The ability to tie conversations to tasks and keep related items related is phenomenal. Being type A - I love the ability to check things off and see them disappear off the list. That's the best part. :)
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing - it's an excellent product. Great to work with and perfect for teams. Can't say there isn't really anything I don't like about it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've used it for project management - both for work and for personal. It's easy to collaborate with a team during a project, get feedback on items you submit or things you put in the list. The gantt chart add-in is also very nice and easy to use. The ability to tie in various programs make it very fluid to work with while developing. It's also good just my personal use. I can enable the app on my phone and keep up with my lists as I go. Doesn't seem to put too much on the phone either.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
PLAY with it. Explore the software when you first get it set up. there are so many little bells and whistles that you may miss out on some neat features if you don't. Also, check out the add-ins - some of them are extremely helpful and beneficial. Play with those as well - you can't hurt the software or "mess" anything up. Collaborate with others in it as much as you can. It's a flip from traditional correspondence but it's so much more efficient.
Solid Project Management System
What do you like best about the product?
It's very easy to move tasks between and among team members and steps, as well as to tag people within specific steps. For my team, a task would go to be, I would pass it to the next person, who would pass it to the next person, and then it would go back to me, sometimes with additional people pinged in between, and it was all very fluid.
What do you dislike about the product?
I know that for smaller teams, project management systems could just be added work. I also feel that the reminder system could be a little bit better (more aggressive?) but in general it has been a very helpful product for my team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In my role, tasks are often being passed from one person to the next back to the first, etc., so Asana is a great way to keep track of due dates and to know when you are needed on a certain project, especially when you are balancing multiple projects at once.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For some teams, project management systems could just cause some extra work, so you need to figure out if it's right for your team. If you are balancing several projects at once and if projects are especially collaborative, then I think it's helpful.
