Best project management tool for keeping sane!

  • April 09, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There is a view for everyone. Whether you like a card layout or a list view, Asana has it all.
What do you dislike about the product?
Of their existing features, I don't have any dislikes. I would love it if Asana had an email integration with Gmail to seamlessly add tasks right from email.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Asana primarily for event management, daily task management and client project tracking. I've saved time, kept on schedule and easily replicated project templates with their awesome tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Excellent for SMB's and those on a budget. Their upgraded service is still cost-effective and offers a ton of useful additional features for your growing business.

Great project management overall, but...

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is a great idea: simple to use, lean interface and great for team collaboration.
What do you dislike about the product?
Severely lacks user-to-user customizability (e.g. use 1 can't have a customized dahdbhoard from user 2 - it's everyone sees the same layout, period.)

Also lacks the ability of creating any customized dahsboards (e.g. one for overdue tasks, one for upcoming, one for waiting on).

No task statuses (either done or not)

Can't change the layout of a project once created (must decide on list view vs. kanban at project creation only, can't switch half-way through, or even see it both ways).

They just implemented timeline views, but I'd like to see more Gantt functionality without having to connect to an external tool like insta-gantt.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Everyone knows what to do without having to memorize thier list, or use something else (so better consistency amongst team members). And this results in easier transition of projects to another.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's not as customizable or robust as something like Wrike, but will work if you just need basic project management and very affordable.

What do you like best about the product?
Our organization has been using asana for a couple of years. When everyone buys into a product it speaks volumes of the product's utility. We use it in every team meeting.
What do you dislike about the product?
The subtasks can become endless and hard to manage.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have solved task management, project management, deadlines, responsibility and visibility.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try, a limited run of users is free.

Excellent Task Manager

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simple for the entire team to use. Gorgeous interface. We really find this tool useful. We switched from Basecamp and are much happier with Asana.
What do you dislike about the product?
Comments used to be uneditable but they fixed that, so nothing. I would like to be made aware of new tools and features. There are some features I didn't know about until now.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We’ve used Asana to manage three projects, bringing together remote teams to complete tasks successfully.

Great way to keep our team organized.

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is simple to use and extremely functional. It helps us keep our three different departments in communication, understanding staff workloads and timelines.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost of premium membership. As we are a non-profit, it would be nice if a discount was offered. We're sitting right at the edge of the free membership and have to price out the premium shortly. The cost from 15 to 20 members is quite high as well. It is also not entirely clear what you get besides more members for the cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have several departments that have to work closely together. Before Asana, we had difficulty understanding what everyone was working on. Now, everyone can see everyone else's workload, we can schedule tasks, comment, upload supporting documentation, work from out of office/home, and easily keep in touch.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana is a great tool for mapping out specific projects, but also for showing the general workload between staff and departments. It helps us to prioritize and schedule deadlines, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner without overloading people. We are currently able to use the free version, but as our team grows we will have to move over to the paid version.

Great product (if people are willing to use it)

What do you like best about the product?
Asana definitely feels like it makes sense. It is pretty intuitive and easy to use. The design looks sleek and has some really fun features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Using Asana can feel tedious. It is great to have a place to document the process, but sometimes I feel like it just takes too long. There are always extra little things that take up time, and it is easy to drop the ball on my documentation in Asana. Once I get too far behind, the documentation becomes a little bit useless, and it becomes a "check the boxes" type of activity.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana is helpful in coordinating projects where multiple people are expected to contribute with different deadlines. It can also be useful for process documentation so that there is an easy place to find notes on recurring projects, such as annual reports.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Think about why you want this type of product, what you hope to get out of it, and what expectations exist for each user.

Yup, this is making a positive impact

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is proving to pull a variety of functions that were spread out among email, Slack and other functions. It is pulling the functions together into one place and making the day to day work of my team much more coordinated.
What do you dislike about the product?
My only complaint is learning curve on using the tool. My team has been using Asana for about 4 months and we are still learning a lot about the product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This has been key to my teams coordinated functions and work flows. I am finding that I can better manage and coordinate work with this tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You team has to commit to using this tool - don't assume it's easy so everyone will just jump on board - commitment matters.

Asana Review

  • April 04, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like this product because it is easy to manage my own tasks for the day, see what other people on my team may have on their plate, as well as work together by assigning and following tasks with one another.
What do you dislike about the product?
Asana can be a bit difficult to navigate at times. When I first started using the program, it wasn't clear cut how I could assign my task to another person. Now that I've figured the system out, I don't have many complaints!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work in advertising. It is easy for my team to attach images and plan emails, advertisements, etc. as we are all contributors on a task.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend this for any one that works as a team on projects quite often! It makes managing those tasks and delegation much easier!

    Kellie V.

Okay....but better team task/ work management apps exist

  • April 04, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to rank priority on the tasks that you have set out for your team is very convenient so it allows people to see what should be targeted first not just a list of everything that needs to be done. Also the ability to segment tasks by topics is very helpful especially if you have a focus area within your group.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm not the biggest fan of the UI, and a lot of times reminders and other tasks can become cluttered and it can get very confusing to sort out. The gant chart like feature could be designed much cleaner, and the calendar feature is also not my favorite as I feel like it can easily become cluttered. Additionally sometimes their notification system doesn't work to the best of its abilities. There have been times where I haven't been notified of things and I had angry coworkers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Trying to organize people who are very much remote workers to accomplish group tasks. The benefits are providing every one a central hub to check where priorities are and to allow for internal communication between the team that is not constantly lost in emails.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely go through all of the tours to see if this product is right for you. Its much more useful for smaller teams even within larger companies otherwise it will become too cluttered and can be confusing. The prioritization and segmentation of topics is helpful. Definitely would recommend if you have a group with a lot of subgroups or many categories of tasks that fall underneath the umbrella of coverage areas.
