Great for teams and more complex projects

  • November 17, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is a truly premium product with a free price tag. You can manage an incredible amount of project data and keep projects completely separate from one another.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's "too much" of a solution for the daily operations of my business. It's best suited for teams managing complex projects. As a freelance designer who collaborates directly with clients, it doesn't suit my needs. Most of my clients also didn't find the interface intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I collaborate with clients on website redesigns and new websites. Asana is great for managing the tasks and milestones within those projects, but it feels overly complex for a one-woman design shop.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Fantastic product for the right situation. I often recommend Asana to clients when I think it could be a good fit.

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate the calendar view, the ability to @ tag members, and overview of status of projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
The mobile apps are lacking much of what I listed above for the desktop.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping track of many concurrent events for a non-profit educational program.

Asana makes wonderful To-DO's

  • November 17, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that you can make sub-lists within your project's to do list, set up reminders, and add more than a couple people and assign them roles.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think the email reminders got a little much, but we changed the settings and it's all good now :)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're making lists of how our projects work and its making apparent the steps that could be eliminated or the processes we need to focus in on further.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Talk to your team and see what your needs are, I found this like a glorified to-do list but it's what we needed at the time.

A Helpful Task Tracking Tool

  • November 16, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My absolute favorite thing about Asana is the new "mark as waiting on" feature. In my department, we have a TON of projects that are dependent on other people completing their tasks first. This feature has made it so much easier to manage projects without a project manager to help move things along.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a little bit too open ended, which can lead to some headaches and confusion when different people have different methods for using the software. For example, some people utilize subtasks, others do not. Some people utilize custom fields, some don't. If you're working in a group that is a 50/50 mix, it can be difficult sometimes to create tasks for other people because it messes up their workflow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I think the biggest business problem that this product solves for us is the need for a project manager to help us move projects forward. Asana allows my team to have visibility into everyone else's work schedules before assigning/asking for help on projects and makes projects move out the door quicker.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Come up with a unified workflow for teams using the tool. It will make life a LOT easier.

Best team productivity tool available for the enterprise

What do you like best about the product?
Asana has a lot to offer when it comes to allowing teams to collaborate on tasks and stay productive. If I'm honest, I'm in Marketing. Tasks are assigned from all over the company for Marketing to execute on. Sales enablement materials from the floor, customer-facing docs for Customer Success, design resources for the website, event collateral, etc. There are tasks everywhere and most of the time multiple sub-departments in Marketing have a hand in creating, editing and delivering. Asana is a tool that allows our team members to be involved in many different teams, projects and tasks while keeping their to-do list separate.

The hierarchy of tasks is infinite.
We use Asana in a number of different ways even within our own team, but we are all able to assign, comment and collaborate on tasks that involve multiple people. Having linked sub-tasks and projects allows everyone to run their tasks how it makes sense for them to while not forcing others to conform to their specific setup.

Customization
The two latest releases bring database-style columns to tasks for better sorting, filtering and contextual information (before diving into tasks one-by-one to investigate something like Stage Complete). Kanban (think Trello) style boards were also just released bringing our designer-minded Marketing folks on board in a whole new way.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't much. I've used a number of different tools for to-do list style collaboration and Asana checks all those boxes and then some, but some of their features are limited by the suggested use cases. So for example sub-tasks don't have the same rights as tasks when it comes to using the new Custom Fields feature. An oversight, but by no means a deal-breaker.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Marketing collaboration and productivity has increased significantly because there is less and less lost in translation. When's the last time you were in a meeting, everyone took action items and the next time you meet many have been forgotten or left unassigned (group dynamics for the win). I myself have been able to streamline 1:1s with our CMO to ensure that we both know what I'm working on at any given point in time. Do I save money directly through Asana - not in the traditional sense. Do I save time due to Asana - you bet. So if I'm saving hours a week in either re-reporting priorities or progress that can be translated into real money for the company.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You can try it out pretty easily and I recommend following their suggested use case to start. Create a project for some effort you're doing that has a deadline. Create sections and tasks and assign them to yourself or members of your team. Add dates and begin. Use the My Tasks section to review any subordinates work during 1:1s and look at the different views (All Tasks, Incomplete Tasks, Dashboard, Calendar) to see progress.

Decent project management tool

What do you like best about the product?
We use Asana for tracking progress on product development and other tasks. It's pretty easy to use and intuitive. Good for sharing progress across our team, delegating, keeping things organized.
What do you dislike about the product?
I feel like we could get the same things done with just a running shared Googledoc. Asana looks nice and is easy to use, but I'm not sure if it's worth paying for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're in the scaling up process right now. We've worked out which features will be essential to our clients and know where we're headed to stay competitive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Good for planning and collaborating together.

    Non-Profit Organization Management

Great tool (and free!)

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is a great tool for collaborating with clients and working on your own biz projects. It keeps you organized, and helps you see what tasks still need to be done.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's so robust, with so many "sub tasks", that sometimes clients get lost in there. (Creating subtasks for subtasks of that main task!) ;)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Organization. Systems. Recurring projects. Meeting deadlines. Client onboarding. Found more clarity - more brainspace to devote to actually getting work done.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it out on the free version to start. It's totally robust, you won't be missing much, and you'll be able to get a good feel for it.

Current Task Manager

  • November 14, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It gives me the ability to prioritize, coordinate, and plan my projects. I also love how capable it is with being mobile compatible so I can use it on the go.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it had a better notification system as tasks/projects are done.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coordinating large projects that involve many employees and departments. The benefits of Asana is that we can mantain good communication, transparency for upper management, and successfully delegate tasks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would highly reccommend this product. Asana has literally changed my life. I use it for everything at work and I also use it for my own personal tasks at home. It's the only way I can function now.

The best free PM software I've tried

  • November 14, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I come from a Jira background, and it has many of the features you might expect - tagging, commenting, tagging other users in comments, adding different statuses to tasks, subtasks etc. It's great for collaborating on small projects with 2-5 participants
What do you dislike about the product?
The optimal way to organize tasks and projects isn't immediately apparent until it's too late to change things. That said, you do have a lot of flexibility in how you want to structure/organize projects - you can use tagging, categories etc. But some ways are definitely more useful than others.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana helps the client, developer and PM all interact together, see quickly which tasks are in progress/upcoming.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it out on a small project first. I think using it for a larger project and managing many people would take more experience with structuring projects in this software.

Asana: Great Project Management Tool

  • November 11, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana offers our marketing team a platform for managing our workflow. We are able to easily see the progress of each project and that product status sparks conversations within the team about how we can move projects along if they are stalling. Asana also offers us easier ways to share files and creative briefs. If I need more information about a project, I simply log in and check the project notes and all of the creative briefs are right there. It makes managing workflow so much easier. Not to mention, the celebrations make task completion that much more fun and satisfying.
What do you dislike about the product?
For someone like me who has a tendency to try to eat the entire elephant in one bite, Asana can be a little bit overwhelming at first. Once you get the hang of it, though, it really is a great product!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana keeps our team from having to chase one another down. It has enabled us to track project progress, rather than having to interrupt one another to ask those questions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We use the free version of Asana and it meets all of our needs. I'd highly recommend this software.
