I like it better than most

  • September 06, 2016

What do you like best about the product?
It is free form, links records easily has a calendar. Keeps track of things very nicely. Upload documents to projects or tasks. Keeps me organized. So far it comes closest to meeting my needs. Still it can be problematic.
What do you dislike about the product?
Phone numbers cannot be dialed using smartphone app so you have to write the number down and call it manually. Time consuming. One has to pay very close attention to every detail, all tasks should be assigned to user by default, then redelegated if necessary, else they just get lost.

Doesn't have any way to receive notifications for appointment reminders on app.

One needs to double check project tasks before completing a task because the next task might be not start until previous task being completed. There is no way of knowing this beforehand so if one just completes the task whether the project will be lost in limbo until someone happens it again.

I find myself going back to my old ways of keeping track of things. I'm not sure I would use it on very important tasks. Things just get lost in here way too easily and it is quite time consuming to keep checking and double checking to make sure nothing was missed.

I often find I need to post the same note in several records.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm retiring Maximizer which just became too problematic, costly and bloated with many problems along the way.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a chance for routine tasks and note taking. Yes, it has a learning curve. Consider it an opportunity cost.

Great for Smaller Teams and Simple Workflows

  • August 31, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very simple to use. You can definitely tell there's been some serious thought put into the UI.

It's easy to create teams, build lists and add tasks.

The dashboard is also a great way to see your deadlines at-a-glance.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's very limited automations (which would be great to help workflows and processes)
There's only the project, task and sub-task levels. I would like to be able to add more levels of hierarchy, as some of my projects can get very complex.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana definitely helps me cut down on emails and manage deadlines better. It's a great way to centralize communication and give insight to all the correct stakeholders.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I'd recommend trying out the free version first and see if it's right for your team.

The center of our project organisation

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use and flexibility for any user
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be slow at times and a bit messy. More reactivity would be amazing!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting rid of emails, improving organization efficiency
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure that you check-out all the new feaures released by the asana team, a lot of them are quite useful and might well change the use that you have of the product.

Really helpful for tracking projects on a small team

  • August 23, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really like how Asana lets me collaborate with my colleagues so we don't miss anything when it comes to working together. Some of the more helpful features for me are attaching PDFs and getting notifications when someone has made changes, completed, or assigned me to a project. As a manager, Asana prevented me from having to send "What is the status on this" emails to my team. Our company also had a few committees who worked on non-critical projects and Asana kept us honest with each other on timelines, who was working on which tasks, and keeping track of important things like catering orders, vendor forms, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Asana can get expensive. I switched jobs and my new company wanted us to use free project management software which wasn't the same. Other than that there wasn't much I disliked.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My company had issues with starting projects and not finishing them. Asana made sure the team working on a project knew the status, timeline, and saw any updates that team members posted. Using Asana helped us stay on track with what we were trying to accomplish. I've used Asana for everything from conference to-pack lists to quarterly objectives. It is not only helpful from a collaboration stand point but for keeping individuals organized!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's worth checking out all the options, but if your team is 20-75 people and in rapid growth mode, I would highly recommend Asana.

Delightful, visual project management

  • August 19, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's nice to be able to use the keyboard to manage tasks.

My inbox, I love sorting my inbox. You get a task assigned, and then mark it for today, upcoming or later. Helps sort out and focus attention.

Being able to set default view, such as a Calendar view for an Editorial Calendar. I learned that in one of their guides. Their guides are great too.

Someone else mentioned "only being able to assign one person to a task" as a CON. I think it's a positive thing. One person should be "responsible for a task. You can assign sub-tasks to other people. That is awesome.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm usually hyper critical and have some constructive criticism, but I can honestly say I love this app.

I tried using it at another company, but it wasn't a good fit because not everyone was "in" the app. I think the success is going to depend on how willing teams are to shift communication to Asana. That isn't a "dislike" but certainly something to be aware of.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to plan and see at a glance what is coming up. I prefer using this for an Editorial Calendar, because the tasks are there in Asana. Tried using Google Calendar before with another task management tool, and it was like doubling up work. This is way better.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you tried Asana out a few years ago, give it another try. The new UI is amazing.

I use this for project management

  • August 11, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Nicely-designed for managing team workflows and project management. It's also lightweight, responsive and simple to set up. The free version supports up to 15 team members. Sweet HTML5 design. Feature rich. Fun little easter eggs hidden throughout the app; such as when your team completes a task, unicorns fly out on the page. Don't believe me? Give it a go!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the UI is a bit detailed and condensed and it can be hard to tell where to put information. I have often found myself clicking on the wrong button or action.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Task management. We have used other programs such as Basecamp and spreadsheets for managing projects and have found Asana to be the most fun, reliable and ease of use.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would definitely consider this software when thinking about project management tools for your business. It's super easy to use, customizable and can be accessed from anywhere that you have internet.

Asana finally brought the right organization to our company!

  • August 10, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is user friendly, very easy to use, and essential! I'd say it's safe to say each of us had our trepidations about it when we first started (having tried using other platforms in the past) and as each of us used it more and more we found it not only important to our work flow, but a regular part of the daily routine to click in and out of it - marking tasks complete, adding new tasks, and updating other tasks. We'd be lost without it.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's few and far between, but every now and again the Asana website goes down. Like I said, it's essential and it derails everything when we can't access it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our CEO found Asana and uses it to know, in general, what is going on in his company without having to have constant meeting to check on progress. Its become a time saver.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do yourself, your employees, and your company as a whole a favor by using Asana.

Not quite the productivity tool I needed

  • August 09, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the design of Asana, I think it's a truly beautiful and thoughtfully designed interface. When I had projects that required multiple members, it was great at sharing information and passing things along.
What do you dislike about the product?
At the end of the day, I need something that makes me feel compelled to use it. I don't work with teams that are comfortable leveraging applications for data sharing enough that justified using Asana all the time, and without using it all the time it doesn't become second nature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've tried to leverage it both in professional settings and in educational setting. In education with people who are more open to technology it really worked well. Working at a legacy CPG company, many people aren't comfortable leveraging new tools to push processes through.

This project management system is a lifesaver!

  • August 09, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the ability to break out projects, divide up tasks, assign a deadline, leave comments and notes. I love to look at my tasks in list view, showing what is due first at the top and descending from there. Other coworkers prefer to look at it in calendar view and it accommodates us both easily. It's easy to move tasks around, reassign, and see where a project left off.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes we find that due to the sections, we list a project or task twice - say the manager and the contributor both assign the same task to someone. I've run into some issues with emails not coming through notifying me of new comments, but that is very likely due to our email server blocking it rather than the asana program itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were using a google doc as a project management software (not ideal) before we found asana. Our team now works collaboratively in the software and holds weekly meetings where we go through as a team and discuss progress.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana is a great platform for project management. I've found it very easy to work in, more user friendly than Basecamp or Teamwork for our needs.

Very strong collaborative features, folders and organization are a bit arcane

  • August 09, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to collaborate, good layout, plenty of storage space. We were able to put different tasks into different folders, manage due dates and deadlines, and exchange drafts very easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
Folders are too segmented and you cannot work across them, cannot collaborate in real-time
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
managing an editorial project for a book series featuring 10-12 titles, each by different authors
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Differs from could-storage or sharing sites in its organizational layout (tasks, projects, etc.) but still needs stronger features for targeting admin users
