Memsource: Versatile CAT tool
What do you like best about the product?
It is a nice CAT tool that allows a lot of freedom as you can use it on a web browser. It allows a lot of personalization of workflows, file types, etc. It also allows automation, as you can use widgets to allow your clients to upload their files and get a quote, or even start an automatic workflow for translation. For now I have only used it for testing, but it has a lot of potential. Whether you are a freelancer or work in a translation company, Memsource can be a very useful tool for you.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like that if you want to modify the file type settings after creating a project, you have to resubmit the file and edit the settings in the upload options, it would be nice to be able to edit the file type settings in the project independently of uploading the file again or not.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I think the automation widgets are very nice, and the API allows to connect with many different tools. It is also compatible with other common CAT tools in the industry, so it wouldn't be a problem if you have to share a project with a person that uses a different tool.
Reduce the workload and easier to use
What do you like best about the product?
The pre-translation has helped and benefited me a lot in translation job and saved much time in the process
What do you dislike about the product?
The blue tag is sometimes troublesome as I translate from TH-ENG and ENG-TH. I need to solve the format when exporting to other file formats.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problem that you don't have to translate a whole paragrah at once making it look easier to translate with many functions that could help you save a lot of time
Phrase has simplified a lot our translations process
What do you like best about the product?
The platform has an easy-to-use UI and is packed with valuable features for all companies.
It makes it easy for us to have new translations made by professionals simply by giving them access to Phrase.
It makes it easy for us to have new translations made by professionals simply by giving them access to Phrase.
What do you dislike about the product?
The introduction to the documentation was a bit confusing. The Phrase Team should better organize the docs to have a faster installation process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
At my company, we had a manual translation process that took away lots of working time with no necessity. With Phrase, we were able to automate everything so we can focus on our direct work actions.
Good, modern TMS for Linguists and LSPs
What do you like best about the product?
Memsource has an up-to-date interface, great translator workbench but most important for us are the analytics and integration of MT.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their pricing model is per-word, which means it can become expensive to do big, low-margin projects. Using it can become expensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We moved from another web-based TMS as it was unable to provide per-segment analytics or granular control of machine translation engines.
Great tool
What do you like best about the product?
User-friendly interface that makes the tool very easy to learn and use. Memsource also has good quality customer service.
What do you dislike about the product?
There aren't any significant issues with Memsource, but some basic features are still missing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The option to create projects using automation and the use of project templates helped us saving time and costs.
a great tool!
What do you like best about the product?
I think Memsource is user-friendly, which is helpful when it comes to create and manage projects. Among all CAT tools, Memsource is one of my favorites du to its user-friendly interface and fast technical support. All the times I encountered a technical issue, the support always took quick action when needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing to dislike about Memsource. Sometimes it can be slow but not an issue
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thanks to MS, it's extremely easy to assign translations and to split large files if needed
Very insightful
What do you like best about the product?
Firstly the pace of the course, and the trainer (he was able to explain everything clearly - spot on!)
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing, really. Maybe a mock-up program to test out all the functionalities would have been great. Apart from that, I am delighted with the course!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Project management side is quintessential when it comes to localizing
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use Memsource as it would make your life easier
Responsive Phrase Support
What do you like best about the product?
A few days back, I encountered a problem figuring out why format_options isn't applying when being configured in .phrase.yml through android studio plugin. I raised this concern in phrase support, and luckily we found out that it's an undocumented bug in using the phrase plugin for android studio. Someone from phrase support recommended using the CLI for it, and fortunately, everything seems to work as desired. Having responsive support meant so much for both ends, especially on our side, working under some time frames.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not so much, maybe I would just suggest for the phrase team to thoroughly update all the needed documentation to make it more informative on the users side knowing that a particular functionatility is either working or not. This is to cause no further headaches and delays on debugging on the end users side. :)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working on localization to provide a rich user experience to various users is quite uneasy to handle, but with phrase, the complexity in managing this type of task is lessened and makes the developers more productive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go and try using Phrase. It is such a good tool for handling localization/translation management.
Great and simple tool
What do you like best about the product?
Searching content in source and target is simple thanks to dedicated imput fields. It is possible to work in web or desktop editor, Machine translation provided by clients is seamlessly integrated. When project is prepared well, the user does not need to establish any MT, TM or glossary connections and can work on the file straight away. The tool is seamlessly integrated into client's TMS, so there is no need for e-mail communication, downloading files TMs, glossaries etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Concordance search could be more accessible, there is a separate window for the Search funkctionality, which causes the user to hide TM hits. It might be better. Glossary hits are not easy to notice, a Wordfast-like glossary recognition system would help a lot. QA often takes too long and has to be re-run after any changes in the translated file. Often it is not possible to deliver the file without ignoring all the false negatives. I also miss an export function, which would help me valdate the file in external tools, such as word, Xbench etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a preferred tool for some major clients, and its ease of use makes such jobs effective and attractive for me. With some other clients, which insist on using their own preferred tools and invironments, this requirement reduces my effectiveness, causing the jobs to be less attractive to me and I am less likely to accept them. This is not the case with Memsource.
Memsource adaptive workflow and translation management
What do you like best about the product?
In Memsource, you can specify unique workflows per each content type and/or product line. Because memsource is heavily invested in endpoint APIs, you can define any type of workflow based on your criteria and requirements.
- For legal, we have full workflow Translation, editing, review, and review #2
- for Support, we have a partial workflow in translation and editing
- for production UI, we have a different workflow depends on the language. Some languages go through T, E, and R while others go to T and E, or T and R.
also, we are focusing on vendor-agnostic model and Memsource can support this type as well. Each vendor is assigned per job, and a job equals to a language. That means 10 jobs, 2 jobs can assign to vendor A and 8 jobs can assign to vendor B.
Lastly, Memsource support varieties of Machine Translation + built-in as well so you can use some of the top MT engines

What do you dislike about the product?
Termbase is still lacking the industry standard and the permission level needs to improve.
They just recently deployed a Google Chrome plug-in for termbase import/export and it's a one step further to automatically push any new terms for translations and sync back to the glossary. I think more improvement is definitely needed such as a rejection/approval, dashboard...etc

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Customization and flexibility on how a translation project can be handled by vendors. As we are approaching vendor-agnostic models, using Memsource is helping us to stay in a single tech platform, but working with multiple vendors at once.
