What is our primary use case?

We use the tool's dashboard for reporting purposes. 

What is most valuable?

Tableau's most valuable features are its ability to summarize data, provide dynamic controls for navigating different charts, and showcase historical data trends. I appreciate the option to colour-code different charts for improved customer experience.

Tableau has influenced our decision-making process. With its ability to create conditional views and filter data easily, we can quickly analyze information and make informed decisions. It saves us time by providing a concise business performance summary, allowing us to focus rather than sorting through extensive Excel files.

What needs improvement?

Tableau could be improved by introducing a data manipulation layer within the tool itself. Currently, data manipulations require using additional tools like Alteryx. If Tableau included these capabilities, it would reduce the need for external dependencies. The tool gets slower when we feed huge amounts of data.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the product for four months. 

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution's stability a nine out of ten since it gets slower whenever huge data is added. 

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool's scalability is easy. I rate it a ten out of ten. My company has thousands of users for Tableau. 

How are customer service and support?

We've got a dedicated support. It's easy to reach out to them, and they respond promptly.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the tool's deployment a six out of ten. It depends on the individual's technical background. Someone with a technical background could learn it in about a week or ten days. However, for someone from a non-technical background, it might take them longer, maybe a month, to grasp the more complex aspects of the tool.

What was our ROI?

Tableau has provided a return on investment for our company. It has helped us manage critical information such as outstanding payments and trade details. With Tableau, we have gained visibility into outstanding rates and payment dues, enabling us to follow up on penalties or payments from clients.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's licensing is based on user-basis. It depends on the business ROI it offers. It's not on the higher side or too cheap; it falls in the medium-cost range. The price is determined by user usage, so the cost will also increase as the number of users increases.

What other advice do I have?

For data analysis, we primarily use Tableau for basic tasks like creating pie charts or calculating averages. However, it lacks extensive or complex data analysis capabilities.

Tableau's data planning capabilities are somewhat limited. To compensate, we rely on other tools like Alteryx for data manipulation. Once we've prepared the data, we create hyperfiles and use Tableau for dashboarding.

I would recommend Tableau for advanced visualization tools. Still, I must mention that other powerful options are available in the market, such as Power BI. Power BI, which offers extensive data manipulation and dashboarding capabilities, while Tableau is old. Additionally, Power BI has newer versions, enhanced capabilities, and better integrations.

Right now, there are no talks on replacing it. So, my company will continue to rely on Tableau because it has many users. If we have to move to another tool, there must be a migration plan and many logistical changes, which could be a challenge.

I rate the overall product an eight out of ten. I advise those considering using Tableau to analyze their needs beforehand. Tableau can be a valuable data analysis and visualization tool, but it's important to understand what you want to achieve with it.

Provides analytics and simple reporting with data cleaning

What is our primary use case?

There are many use cases and many projects. I have done level cost-based analysis and forecasting. I have also created one dashboard for their risk measurement.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the analytics part. You can use simple reporting by using the analytics by businesses and stakeholders, giving insight into that particular information. It also has data cleaning. It saved a lot of time for the application.

What needs improvement?

Every time, they create a new version of Tableau. We need to update that version and create a new EXE file. Any visualization tool should have one particular application that only needs to be updated rather than creating version one, like 2024.1.2. You can see many versions in Tableau. We are using this number of versions only because of the latest update. Having the latest update in the same application rather than creating multiple versions would be good.

Some features are not enabled in Tableau. We can use the measure or Python to use that. Every company or every person has its own requirement in Tableau. Suppose I am using an in-date format. I'm extracting data from my data source in some other format. At the same time, businesses want to view this information in different formats. I have to customize the data format. If possible, you and your team can work on the date format in the world. There are multiple data formats or data get views available in the report. You can also accommodate in the gate feature.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Tableau for almost five to six years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Tableau is scalable software. Almost 500 people within my department are using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

During COVID-19, I had a few issues. Our support team didn't support it. We requested to the Tableau team, and that person helped us. Sometimes, they have a good way. They have excellent knowledge, but sometimes, when you provide your source to a third party, they don't support us technically. 

How would you rate customer service and support?

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of desktop application is straightforward. We can also creat,e athe  project and tha e end user can also create their own project, and later on, if needed, the support team can help us with that.

It takes ten working days minimum to complete creating dashboard and setup server. We are using dev and production environment. Some are also using a testing environment based on their requirement and discussion with the business.

Multiple team is responsible for their activities. At least five to six people are required  for deployment because someone is creating a dashboard and some person has their knowledge at server level. Also, some person needs to have their permission management.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I was not able to connect Tableau with SharePoint online. Microsoft Power BI can be connected with SharePoint easily online. It has many more facilities than the Tableau application.

What other advice do I have?

The daily reporting or data analysis has seen many improvements with Tableau. We can manage the users accordingly while doing the drag-and-drop interface for that application. I can do Python and use Python Tableau language, which creates a lot of differences.

I have never faced any issues with data integration. Before COVID era, I was using SAP HANA. I could use it very frequently and use the data set accordingly.

I have never faced any such issues. It is a very good application. There are many more application which are also very good and very user friendly, but Tableau is also one of them. We have a direct live collection. Even business users share experience while connecting the live. They feel some hindrance while using this application when they refer us or when they filter the data. You can see the delay response in the page.

Tableau is a good application. I created any dashboard for the business, and business want to view their information. They like that application, and they are able to on this side, what purpose they wanted to develop this dashboard.

I recommend Tableau. There are many BI application. Tableau is one of them, as I I use it.

If the user want to view information, it would be go with their line. It is simple to understand, and take decision based on their information. It would be very good to have on comparison heat map or the pie chart.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

We use the product to build diverse dashboards for a revenue authority. It helps us analyze taxpayer behavior to understand payment patterns and identify areas for improvement in compliance.

What is most valuable?

The platform's most important feature is predictive analysis. We can map taxpayers' locations with data and connectivity to databases and sources. We can forecast future trends using the visualization feature. These are a few features that make it unique.

What needs improvement?

The product's features for cloud integration need improvement. They should revise licensing and pricing models to cater to smaller enterprises. Users must be able to customize and write their code similarly to one of its competitors. Many companies have in-house data science models for Twitter or Facebook based on predictive analysis. There is a possibility of integrating these models seamlessly into Tableau.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Tableau for a year and a half.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a very stable tool. I rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have 10 Tableau users in our organization. We plan to increase software usage.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team is very supportive.

We also work with Power BI and an open-source solution. In comparison, Tableau has a sharp learning curve. It is intuitive and easy to use. It has less deployment time and impressive visualization features. We can connect different data sources, including SQL, Oracle, etc.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process is easy. It takes less than an hour to complete. I rate the process a nine out of ten.

The product's price is relatively inexpensive and manageable for enterprise-level companies. However, they could reduce the cost or offer discounts for smaller companies.

Scalable product with a valuable user-interface

Our customer uses Tableau for visual dashboard features.

What is most valuable?

The product offers an intuitive user interface, detailed screens and widgets, and the absence of data limitations. Its primary strength lies in visual analytics, allowing users to analyze data with visual compliance.

What needs improvement?

Tableau's data modeling, mining, and AI library features need improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Tableau for five or six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The platform's cloud version is stable and has no CPU or RAM limitations. The dashboards work fast. In the case of an on-premise site, the stability is based on the hardware capacity.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is scalable. We have 50 users for it in our environment.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It can be deployed in the cloud and on-premises as well. For successful implementation, one must ensure well-designed data regarding KPIs, data strategy, etc., if one has an in-depth understanding of easy deployment. One needs to log in and select the model for cloud implementation. Preparing a Tableau server environment for the project site takes around two days. It is a self-oriented structure and doesn't require any manual adjustment. It is easy to maintain and involves giving a few commands. However, one must update the product to avoid compatibility issues with Windows and Linux.

What was our ROI?

The product generates a value for investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Tableau has reasonable pricing similar to Power BI. It doesn't have any hidden costs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Tableau has a good interface, is easy to deploy, and can be integrated with different AI systems. Compared to other vendors like SAP, the product's data layers need enhancement. Additionally, it could directly connect to cloud services similar to Power BI.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Tableau a nine out of ten. I advise others to help from experienced consultant teams and trusted vendors for implementation. Another piece of advice is to begin small by downloading Tableau Desktop, testing it with your data, and familiarizing yourself with its logic. What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for the client's management of KPIs; it involves monitoring various aspects. If they are a manufacturing company, key performance indicators revolve around production and other relevant factors.

What is most valuable?

The solution helps users create dashboards and analyze data without relying on IT or product teams. 

What needs improvement?

The tool's OpenAI integration was announced last year. However, it is late. Tableau is a good solution for end customers. However, there are some concerns regarding the stability and performance of its server architecture, including SaaS services. The server side appears unstable, and performance issues are noticeable, often accompanied by unclear error messages.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the product for seven years. 

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Tableau's stability a nine out of ten.

Our experience spans around 70 customers, covering manufacturing, pharmacy, trading, construction, universities, and the public sector. I rate the product's scalability a seven out of ten.

I rate the tool's setup a ten out of ten. While setting Tableau servers for customers, we often encounter challenges that vary based on their network configuration and operating systems, such as Windows or Linux.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In Korea, the tool's pricing depends on the scale of usage. For instance, it's reasonable for a department with fewer than 50 users to adopt Tableau, like sales. However, the pricing becomes an issue when considering an enterprise solution for a larger user base, say 10,000 people.

What other advice do I have?

Tableau is integrating OpenAI's GPT feature. It will help to create automatic dashboards with natural language. Only ten percent of our customers use Tableau in the cloud since they prioritize their data. They don't want to import their data to the cloud. It is as per their policies and security advice. Traditional companies don't like exporting customer data outside the organizational network. 

Japanese data centers often support Korea. However, the challenge arises from the absence of a federal cloud data center in Korea. Consequently, utilizing Tableau Cloud may result in data being exported outside the country. This is not allowed legally for financial entities such as banks. 

However, the government does not regulate smaller companies like startups. Hence, they are more open to the cloud. This is not the case for public entities. They should install the software in the government's cloud. 

Our clients for Tableau are mainly enterprise businesses. I rate it a nine out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

As an administrator, I use the solution in my company to deal with customers' current deployments and help with the troubleshooting process in case of issues while keeping a check on the performance, like the coverage provided by the solution.

How has it helped my organization?

Tableau is a good product for some of the projects my company has handled, and we have also used it as a visualization tool. Considering how certain products work for customers and how their businesses function, it is easy for my company to use Tableau in such environments as it is a user-friendly tool.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are the permission management and the user management.

What needs improvement?

With Tableau, the only downside stems from its prices, especially in the country where I reside, which is Sri Lanka. When my company reaches out to new customers with Tableau's new costs, we find ourselves at a disadvantage. The price is an area where improvements are required.

I think Tableau plans to release some AI-integrated features in 2024 for one of our company's clients we had initially. My company plans to use the AI-integrated version of the solution when it is released. AI is one of the best things that I was hoping to have on Tableau.

The only issue with the solution is with its prices at a regional level. Integration-wise, it is a good product. Tableau always provides support to users. Tableau should introduce some special pricing for its existing customers, and it should be possible for the partners and resellers to provide such special prices to customers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Tableau as an administrator in my company for four years. My company, which is in Sri Lanka, has a partnership with Tableau.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. If the people who are working on the tool know about the product, then it's a stable solution. New people who have an understanding of the product can use its stable nature. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten. There is a possibility that the product crashes at times.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product offers scalability or scaling out options, but at the moment, there is no demand for the product from the customers, and nobody is getting it deployed. In general, though it is a scalable solution, no one prefers using the product presently. Recently, I have only done two deployments of the product for our company's customers. The people who use the product are not satisfied with it.

The product's clients are major banks and some other businesses operating in the financial sector, meaning all of the tool's customers run enterprise-sized companies.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support was good. I rate the technical support an eight to nine out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was not very easy as it was a little bit of a technical process about which I didn't have any experience. I rate the product's initial setup phase a six to seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup process, and ten is an easy setup process.

Most of the solutions I have deployed have been done on an on-premises model. For some new customers, my company has deployed the product on the cloud. If customers are okay with their budgeting part, I suggest they deploy the tool on the cloud.

For new users, our company can set up an environment. If the customer can provide an on-premises environment, we can set up Tableau in four to five hours. A single-node deployment takes around four to five hours, but if it is a marginal level of deployment, it might take a day or a day and a half.

When involved in the deployment, if there is some support from the customer's IT team, then only one person is required to take care of the deployment process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the product price in the Indian region a seven to eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price. For the other regions in the world, the price of the product might be average. The additional cost attached to the product crops up when users plan to use the product on an on-premises model.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it. Tableau is a good visualization tool for everyone, and it is also easy to learn, especially when compared with its competitors.

I rate the overall tool an eight to nine out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

I use it for sales tracking, incident management, and monitoring proactive tickets from different tools and systems. These are my three major use cases.

How has it helped my organization?

The biggest benefit is significant time savings in creating reports and dashboards. We now spend less time creating dashboards and reports. It's also very user-friendly and easy to work with.

What is most valuable?

The dashboards are amazing, with different report types and stunning visuals. Most importantly, Tableau's AI with machine learning automatically predicts features and reports based on historical data. These are the three most valuable features for me.

What needs improvement?

Firstly, the high cost of Tableau licenses makes it inaccessible for many mid-scale clients. Secondly, the server requires at least 128GB of RAM, which can be impractical for some systems. We need a dedicated system to use Tableau. 

These are the two major challenges I see, especially for smaller organizations. Perhaps introducing lighter options or scaling solutions could be helpful.

Tableau offers some of the best features in the market. Enhancements are always ongoing, and it's already one of the strongest BI tools available.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with Tableau for over five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Everything seems fine. They provide good materials and articles for updates, so it's not cumbersome. It's quite good, actually.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It definitely scales well. It's one of the best in the market for that. We have over 300 users in my organization using it.

I use various BI solutions. Primarily, I work with Power BI. We use two services: the server to upload reports and the Power BI Service. 

We also use Tableau for one client for reporting, dashboards, and reservations. Additionally, I use SAP Business Objects for reporting purposes.

One of Tableau's big objectives is reporting. It is superior compared to other tools. 

For on-premises Power BI, the biggest challenge is it's not fully integrated. We need separate applications and deployments on different machines. That's cumbersome. 

With the Tableau server, everyone can share reports on one server, which is much more efficient. Reporting with Tableau is amazing compared to Power BI Desktop. 

As for cons, the application size is quite high, and 128 GB of RAM is needed for the Tableau Server so if we need a lighter version of Tableau.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not cumbersome, it was straightforward for me. It is like a default application in my system, I was not part of the infra team. 

What about the implementation team?

As a user, I haven't encountered much maintenance myself. Infrastructure management manages it.

What was our ROI?

The value for money is definitely there. Tableau is a bit higher side as compared to Power BI services because Microsoft is offering really, very amazing prices. At the organization level, Microsoft provides PowerBI service as a package, and they are offering more than 30% to 60% of their end customer. 

But, Tableau is on the same side, cost-wise,  Tableau is a bit high.

What other advice do I have?

I would like to recommend Tableau because of the dashboarding, reporting and the features they are providing to end customers. So it is very commendable.

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

I use Tableau in a jewelry company to analyze sales and service inventory.

What is most valuable?

I can't comment on the valuable features of Tableau. I am familiar with some of the other tools, but I can't point out one specific big feature of Tableau.

What needs improvement?

A specific thing in Tableau is that I have looked at how to add pictures to the reports. I don't have the ability in Tableau to create a tooltip and see the picture of a piece of jewelry or watch that is a best seller.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Tableau for over five years. I don't remember the version of the solution I am using, but I feel it is the upgraded version. Maybe the server is not the latest one, which might be behind by a year. I am a customer of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Tableau does break down a little bit. The server version of Tableau doesn't allow you to see what is going on, making it a part of Tableau that is not great. Tableau's server version doesn't provide the ability to extract the information to see why the reports or dashboard didn't run properly. When you refresh in Tableau, you can't see what it's doing, and nothing happens since it doesn't show you what's going on, and then Tableau gets fixed all of a sudden.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

One of my biggest problems is getting all the users to use Tableau, but that's not a specific problem of the tool alone since it is one of the most common problems among BI tools.

I only have ten Tableau licenses that are used in my company.

How are customer service and support?

I have only sought some local support within Israel for Tableau. The only way to solve the problems in Tableau is through checking on forums.

How was the initial setup?

Tableau is deployed on-premises.

Tableau's initial setup was straightforward. When you need to make complicated dashboards, that can be very difficult in Tableau, but the initial setup was very quick. Connecting the data sources was very easy in Tableau.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing for Tableau is the same as the other products in the market. I haven't checked Tableau's price recently, but I don't think it is a factor when choosing the tool.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Tableau, I had checked QlikView, which is now Qlik Sense, and I preferred the way Tableau works over Qlik Sense. Tableau made me feel independent and not dependent on programmers, making it more user-friendly.

What other advice do I have?

I would look at Microsoft Power BI. I am unsure if I would push Tableau since it is not a widely used tool. I don't know if others in the field of jewelry use Tableau.

Overall, I rate the solution between a seven and eight out of ten.

The solution has a lot of customization when comparing to Microsoft BI.

The customization requires a lot of effort and should be simplified. The performance could be better. When comparing the performance of Tableau to other solutions, such as Microsoft BI, they are not as good.

I have been using Tableau for approximately four years.

There is a license for the use of this solution and it is on a per-user basis. The server is free but the users you have to pay for.

We performed a POC before going with Tableau, we tried Power BI because Power BI is competing against tableau. But to use Power BI at its full potential, you need the Power BI cloud edition, which our organization cannot go with. So the obvious choice was to go with Tableau.

What other advice do I have?

Tableau is very good, but customers have to understand the requirements of hardware and software the way Tableau works. If they have some requirements that Tableau cannot meet, they will understand how to do it in an alternate way.
