It's just Kafka made easy

  • August 16, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Having a nice interface with really good options to better configure and setup kafka topics and so.
What do you dislike about the product?
I struggled a bit at first to reset an offset from a topic, since we had all those good options I thought there was an easier way of doing that, but yeah, you can always make use of the confluence platform to do it directly through its interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
High traffic messages regarding events inside our platform.

Aiven is great!

  • July 31, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the all-in-one feel of Aiven best. It's like a swiss army knife for doing DBA stuff. I don't have to worry about setting up repl, getting slow query logs, or backups - it's all just done for me!
What do you dislike about the product?
I would love a view that can show me replication topology graphically. I'd also love it if at least the postgres service provided a breakdown of how disk space was being used rather than just overall disk usage. It would help spot things like repl logs piling up for example.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Aiven has made it super easy to do all of the devops kind of stuff associated with running our data stores. We don't need much in-house specialized knowledge and feel like it's less likely we'll miss something basic (backups, etc) only to find out when it's too late.

Aiven was a good fit for a startup just getting into Kafka

  • July 10, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
We were comparing Aiven to Confluent, as we wanted a managed solution for our small engineering team. Confluent limited bandwidth and required an up-front commitment for their enterprise tier, whereas we just wanted a monthly bill based on compute power. We also wanted managed Schema Registry and (bonus) Connect, which Aiven had right out of the box. We enjoyed the free trial with the managed components as it let us build out our infrastructure. Also, Aiven just "felt right" when we started using it via the console.
What do you dislike about the product?
Even though it is insecure, I'd like an option for plaintext connections. It would make it easier to prototype and get started, which was when we were doing our vendor comparing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a robust system for collecting user interaction events (used for analytics) and inter-service communication for our backend components. So far we are still building, but we enjoy the ability to build real-time applications (our existing Kinesis solution has about a 15 min delay for consuming backend events).

Great interface with knowledgeable support team.

  • July 10, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The interface is intuitive. The support team is helpful although it takes a while to answer.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not PCI-DSS compliant which is a requirement for our business. To be able to use Aiven we will move some tables that have cardholder data to an infrastructure that we have.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
To make the replicas in different cloud companies is an unnecessary complication and Aiven solves that for us.

Easy to use high quality service

What do you like best about the product?
I can upgrade the service plan of a database quickly and easily with no downtime. Also the point-in-time backup gives a lot of reassurance.
What do you dislike about the product?
Limited role and permissions management features for administrators, but nothing we couldn't work around easily and I think more granularity is in the roadmap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using Aiven to host a production postgres DB which handles any transactional and also any personal data for our API. The benefits are fast and easy hosting without us having to implement infrastructure or security. We can easily spin up DBs for dev and test environments.

Great capacity of work very reliable and safe.

What do you like best about the product?
The control panel helps a lot with the basic concepts settings. The database service based on the cloud is really reliable, I also like that it makes the way of working easier. The technical support area is also efficient and can really solve some problems quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some functions are limited, for example the records can not be searched or filtered easily, it would be very useful to search or filter through the different servers. On the other hand the summary of metrics is a list of graphics and you can not choose what I want to see.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It was a great solution for the storage of our operational database, the reliability and support offered by this software is very good, this allows us to make the transactions more and more focused on the automated real-time functionality, without this tool it would be something impossible to do.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is very easy to use and very safe, it must be said that some security settings, for example, from the database, you have to dedicate a considerable amount of time, but all starts are difficult, after having done all this configuration everything will be much faster.

Gets the hassle of maintaining out of the loop

  • June 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have managed kafka before and aiven gets the hassle out of rebalancing and stuff out of the loop
What do you dislike about the product?
There's no support for signalfx which I don't like.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a bit complex :)

Great performance, features and service.

  • June 22, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
I moved to Aiven from RDS as I needed the performance improvements in pg10, and RDS was talking a very long time to make this release available. I've been very happy with Aiven since, my bill is less that it was with RDS, the performance is far better, and I can actually talk to people when I need support. I recommend Aiven to everyone.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not alot, there is quite a fee jump from the entry to mid tier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We built a large app with fairly complicated row level security rules. These started to cause major performance problems in real world use. We knew pg10 had optimized this area, so we needed to find a managed DB solution that would let us run recent releases. That's what initially drew us here.
