Strong Email Security, But Requires Some Fine-Tuning

  • February 14, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Mimecast Advanced Email Security does a good job of blocking phishing, malware, and impersonation attacks before they reach your inbox. The impersonation protection helps catch CEO fraud and spoofed emails. Setup is straightforward, and once it's running, it mostly takes care of itself. The admin dashboard has a lot of options, which can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but it gets easier to navigate over time. It’s not perfect—false positives happen now and then—but overall, it’s a solid option for keeping email threats in check.
What do you dislike about the product?
One downside is that it can be a bit aggressive with filtering, leading to false positives that require manual review. The admin dashboard, while powerful, isn’t the most intuitive and takes some time to get used to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mimecast Advanced Email Security helps block phishing attempts, malware, and impersonation attacks before they reach my users inbox, reducing the risk of security breaches. The URL and attachment scanning add an extra layer of protection against malicious links and files. It also cuts down on spam, which keeps my inbox cleaner and more manageable.

Block significant threats with enhanced phishing prevention

  • November 22, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are doing a POC (Proof of Concept) for a customer looking into offset solutions to see how it performs compared to other players in email security.

What is most valuable?

In terms of efficacy, Proofpoint is better than Mimecast, though it's a little difficult to manage. A distinct advantage of Mimecast is its ability to block phishing and impostor attacks, which are significant threats currently. Security is a major feature where email security tools like Mimecast have delivered value by identifying and preventing phishing emails.

What needs improvement?

Mimecast needs to reduce the number of false positive emails; a big pain point for us. A lot of emails were missed despite being known samples. This needs improvement to reduce the workload on admins to manage emails.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been familiar with Mimecast for three to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability as eight point five out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate scalability as nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Support is not very good; not bad, but not very good. Response time is decent, however, support personnel are hesitant to engage in remote sessions, preferring to share documentation via email.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used Proofpoint and Barracuda for Security awareness training. The Barracuda tool is very poor; nobody is happy with it. I also have experience managing and implementing Proofpoint.

What about the implementation team?

I have implemented Proofpoint, yet not Mimecast. We manage Mimecast for our customers.

What was our ROI?

There is definitely a return on investment when using Mimecast, as it blocks phishing emails, reducing the risk of significant financial losses.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is higher for Mimecast, particularly for the Indian market, where it is considered expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have experience with Mimecast, Proofpoint, Trend Micro, Barracuda, DirectCoder, and TruePoint.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Mimecast based on customer requirements and budget. It is a good tool for email security. I rate it eight out of ten.

Mimecast just works well

  • October 31, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love how much neither I nor my users have to think about it once it is set up. It just works.

the docs/kbs provided are quite illuminative and I had no trouble implementing for our org without reaching out to mimecast support.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a bit of a learning curve associated with Mimecast, and the interface *feels* dated, with many menus and sub-menues to navigate. After some time utilizing it, one does become familiar with where everything can be found.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
specifically Mimecast is excellent in identification of malicious actors posing as our users. Mimecast makes the identifaction and blocking therein painless.

Mimecast gives us the best chance to defend email threats

  • October 29, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The fact that Mimecast is a SEG (Secure email gateway) solution which protects both on-prem and cloud email platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
The admin console is rich but sometimes a bit slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mimecast not only provides the email protection on the gateway level, but also has add-ons we cannot live without such as email archiving, secure email, internal email protect and CyberGraph.

No more phishing headaches

  • October 20, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The speaking point about Mimecast that I like most is a rich number of options for email protection. The usage of filtration and blocks against getting spam and malware has been often useful in this software. Its strong attachment and URL scanning features make it possible to have the assurance that all kinds of email hazards are dealt with. The software also makes sure that our data never gets to be breached while we are still working and this has been a plus for us.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have one issue with Mimecast, and it is that it is a program that likes to mark genuine emails as threats. Frequent arguments and postponements occur and essential messages are isolated leading to more frequent chaos. Number of false positive has affected our workflow greatly in that we spend a lot of time reviewing them. This is especially disruptive when it comes to communicating with clients and partners – it can be quite inconvenient when, for example, we are up against a certain deadline.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mimecast has been very good in addressing the issue of having to deal with ongoing email born threats such as phishing and malware. Earlier, we often fell victim to phishing scams which posed high risks to our data. These threats are effectively prevented by its regular scanning and comprehensive protection, so we can work more confidently. We do not experience any disturbances from the side of email security, the team is more devoted to business processes rather than security ones.

Mimecast is an outstanding product for great value for money

  • September 23, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We use mimecast as an email gateway in which we connect a number of exchange servers too, which is easy to connect up too and synchronises with our Active Directory. I am an administrator and I regularly use Mimecast to support our group. The user interface is easy to get around to investigate email delivery as well as reports on nasty emails. The biggest positive of Mimecast is the protection against spam emails, where it captures 99% of spam as well as many phishing attempts and malicious emails. This and many of Mimecasts other features such as stationary, email archive and reports, makes Mimecast a valuable product to our organisation for excellent value.

We rarely require support from customer services, but when we do, they are supportive and help us fix any issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not a lot I dislike about Mimecast Email Security so this is probably nit picking a bit.

Where I say Mimecast captures 99% of the spam, it would be the 1% that gets through where our users will assume it is safe and get caught out by the trap. I don't think any Email Security system would be 100% but would be nice if those 1% if emails included a mimecast warning that this could be a malicious attempt.

The Mimecast Administration console has vastly improved over the last year or so making it easier to navigate. The only issue I have is sometimes when reports are loading, it would be nice to see a loading bar or spinning circle or something to signify that Mimecast is working on it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our organisation sends and recieves a lot of emails, without mimecast our users would be inundated with spam and malicious emails. The sandboxing and hold boxes provide our staff with the the ability to check flagged emails without the need for me to do anything. The policies are straight forward and can be applied to groups of people as well as individuals. With our current setup, new staff can be added to our systems without any need of any further configuration as it is automatically handled with Mimecast. I rarely need to do anything on Mimecast other than look at reports because the product is setup and does everything automatically.

Our main security needs after the standard email security are HIPPA and PCI which Mimecast does very well for us. Its topped off with secure large file send and encrypted messages.
