    Education Management

A wonderful Management System, with great resources to back it up.

  • May 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use. Excellent Tech support and resources. They are always working hard to give customers more of what they are asking .
What do you dislike about the product?
Not enough control over device settings.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Organization more management over devices. Inventory of devices and apps. Remote access to devices off-premises. Security and location of lost devices. I can manage student Apple IDs with the help of the Apple School Manager. Apple and Jamf are working closely together.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A great way to quickly enroll many devices. It is very user friendly. Easy to implement your users individual needs. You do not need a great deal of technical background to get it up and running.

Jamf Pro Review

  • May 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use/mass modifications and how it can integrate allowing for zero touch setup. The fact that I have remote access to the system and can make changes when not in the office is a huge benefit. The ability too restricted what can be accessed and have the logs to show to administration goes a huge way in showing misuse of hardware. The flip side is seeing what hardware is being used and when last used is critical in knowing what needs to be upgraded or where the school district can save money on the next round of replenishments.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some times having to move all over the place to find things, it would be extremely helpful if static lists work the way adding users/computers to policies was. Currently when editing a static list it show all computers until you filter. This is the same with trying to update scripts at times as you have to open another window to access the script of editing/viewing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mass updates and policy changes, being able to send software out to all computers without having to touch every single one. The greatest benefit was seen last summer during a refreshment of 400+ systems. Using Zero touch with Apple and Jamf allowed myself to save close to a week of tedious setup and configuration.

Being able to provide software to students and he/she being able to download what is only allowed is huge is saving both time and resources.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
While the setup and cost can be overwhelming myself and my predecessor both agree that if the system was not in place at the school I would need a second person to help manage the computers or installation, setup, new users and changes.

The last three months (covid) have been eye opening in how JAMF has been critical. As it as allowed for remote software install (Self Service), policy/configuration updates.

What do you like best about the product?
Features and support. You can get cheaper MDMs, but you would be on your own for support.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some key features that would make my life easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Classroom management and iPad cart management. I can accommodate requests quickly and classroom refreshes are less time consuming

Mighty machine in your right situation

What do you like best about the product?
It seems that most items in Jamf Pro are well figured out in an attitude to how should Apple do it, without overwhelming the customer with so much knowledge at once. Being crewed Airwatch ahead of Jamf is a blast of air and not a program's daunt. I notice how updates are introduced to launches very easily as well as the customer service is fantastic.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since inside the technology industry there are a thousand forms of executing a single task, we may always lead ourselves into a dark rathole just to encounter further challenges. Jamf isn't any special. Although Jamf appears to keep the whole system available for us to create our own business processes, the casual or novice consumer can be frustrated by this. There is little known way of doing one thing. Many of the functions may be done through many means.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since traveling among our academies is pricey and challenging logistics, it is essential to be able to simply administer our devices remotely. Our links to the Web via satellite question more remote administration. All those problems are overcome by the JAMF framework. It enables us to operate within the latency limitations of our Cellular connectivity by being able to establish local distribution points on each page.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I haven't much to tell, that's certainly fine. Using a tool like this for the management of their corporate structure should be quite satisfying for everybody. It is ideal for tracked management and effective implementation without interruptions of procedures. You will save quite a great deal of time.

Jamf Pro is high tech management for Apple products.

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to push software in mass to Apple devices. Being able to do things on your schedule...not someone else's. Like the web interface and it's usability on mobile platforms. How you can make builds work. Also, with the newest Mac OSes 'Mojave & Catalina', if you 'build' using Time Machine, then once you enroll the machines you can roll out all your software in one swoop. Nice!
What do you dislike about the product?
Being a University, it's hard to tell if Jamf Support is engaged sometimes. They do follow through nicely. The trying videos need updating, but you can get the bull of understanding from them. Some functions can only be used by the Web interface. Some other functions can only be used by the Jamf Pro Admin suite app. Seems a little strong but somewhat understandable in some things like 'capturing a printer' or 'creating a Dock icon'. But, if you want to 'duplicate' a build configuration then you can only do that in the Web interface...even though, the only way to 'modify' a configuration is with the Jamf Pro Admin suite app. The only was to 'upload' new packages is with the Jamf Pro Admin and not the Web interface. If you use 'Policies' to push out software or Configuration Profiles, you can't 'make it go now'...there's no telling when the server will push out the thing...if you're testing...then you may be waiting a while or till the next day to see 'if it works' as expected. Jamf pushes out updates several times a year, and that's ok, only, the catch is, your 'suite' of apps have to 'match' the version of the server binary. So, if you 'update every time' then you're updating your suite of apps in every place where you have it installed. Just depends on how you work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Single Handedly managing over 100+ Apple computers. Able to update all machines at once using the Jamf Pro suite of apps. Being able to manage the machines without having to use Faronics Deep Freeze. Using the Active Directory bind actions makes all users 'Network Users' with no Admin priveleges. Also, being able to set Open Firmware passwords especially on laptops, I can use the iCloud functions for 'Find my device' and we have not lost a machine yet since using this....they all come home.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a large management framework. Make sure you study and ask questions...also consider the Mac Admin Slack community. Be prepared for the required 1-week Jamf Pro training = $6,000. If you can, watch the training videos 'before ' the 1-week time with a Jamf Pro Engineer on site.

What do you like best about the product?
Having a single point of management for all of our Apple devices. Constant updates!
What do you dislike about the product?
The training is a bit pricey for a larger team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest recent problem solved was renaming all of our devices to their serial numbers.

JamfPro cloud

  • November 13, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Switching from on premise to jamf hosted cloud has been a boon for engineering focus. We no longer need to manage hundreds of on prem servers in stead of focusing of user experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
No database access, no client connection indication. (Live Tomcat connection counts)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Infrastructure support, talent time allocation.

Jamf Pro the best tool

  • November 13, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like Jamf Pro because it is easy to form policies and create software for a large group of users, as well as it is useful to create reports in your ecosystem for executives of level C. On the other hand I can find amounts of customization and community to contribute patches of Software and security.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not think that there is still a function to patch custom-made Mac enabled with T2 chip. I would like there to be easier ways to configure templates for integrated policies and scripts. As well as the delay options are very limited. Although the text is customizable, the preferences beyond the pre-determined times are very scarce.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jamf Pro offers us to implement customized scripts packages that give us great help to end users to obtain software automatically and we can also use it to apply security patches and thus keep all systems protected against vulnerabilities.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jamf Pro is effective in maintaining a company's Mac computer. We think it is an effective tool to manage iPads and other Apple devices, however if the company is smaller and does not use many Macs, it is probably more of a tool than it needs.
