Solid Edge review

  • October 07, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge never crashed when I worked with it. It does get slow at times, especially when working with large assemblies, but it handles it eventually. It is well connected with other Siemens tools like Teamcenter, but work fine on its own as well. I find the interface simple for some basic usage. For me, the best thing about Solid Edge is Synchronous Technology. It allows the user to change the geometry without searching through operations history and save time if some last minute changes on the part are required. Solid Edge is very good for sheet metal modeling.
What do you dislike about the product?
Solid Edge is not beginner friendly. It is hard to find tutorials and documentation, and if you do find some it is usually not that helpfull. Some functions of the software are hard to find if you are not an experienced user. If you are working on large assemblies it can get slow. Having used SolidWorks and NX as well, I can't say that I am not impressed with Solid Edge. For small companies and freelance work it can offer some value, but for more advanced work I wolud not recommend it over SolidWorks or NX.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing the 3D models and technical drawings for production. It allows good comunication with colleagues from other deparments thorough ist connection with Teamcenter, which is key for a successfull business.

Design 3D models for 3D printing & for comsol simulation

  • October 06, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge solves the frustration of making quick design iterations during the 3D printing process. With its synchronous technology, I can rapidly adjust dimensions, wall thicknesses, and tolerances without rebuilding my entire model history - something that would be tedious in traditional parametric CAD software.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve is unnecessarily steep, particularly for those transitioning from SolidWorks or Fusion 360. The interface appears cluttered and outdated, with important menus hidden in places you wouldn't expect. File compatibility is an ongoing issue—importing complex assemblies from other CAD platforms frequently leads to broken references or missing geometry. The rendering engine delivers only average results compared to other options, so you may find yourself relying on third-party visualization tools for client presentations. Additionally, the smaller user community means there are fewer tutorials and troubleshooting resources available when you encounter problems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Comsol's built-in CAD design capabilities are quite limited, so I often find myself needing to create models in a different CAD program. Since I prefer to handle all my CAD work within a single application, 3D modeling for 3D printing projects was also needed.

My take on SE

  • October 03, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Good interface, I like that it has synchronous modelling.
Like the UI and fewer tabs, it makes it easier and faster to use the SE. Once you've gotten the hang of this software, all other software features are meh.
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact that it stops at least once a day is really stressful, it feels like it gives me a heart attack every time. Learning SE takes a lot more time compared to other options, and some of the commands are confusing. Sometimes, it feels like I'm sent right back to the beginning.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
6years ago, without Solid Edge, our team struggled with managing design revisions. The built-in data management tools and synchronous technology have drastically reduced errors and improved turnaround time.

I'm an experienced mechanical designer with a passion for industrial robotics

  • October 02, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the most impressive features has to be the Synchronous Technology. It allows me to work seamlessly with both history based and direct modeling, which really saves a lot of time, especially when I'm handling imported components from robot manufacturers like ABB, KUKA, and Fanuc. I can make geometry adjustments quickly without having to sift through a lengthy feature tree or stress over broken dependencies.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I found a bit frustrating about Solid Edge is the steep learning curve, especially if you're transitioning from more popular CAD tools like SolidWorks. Even though the user interface has seen some improvements in recent updates, it still feels somewhat less intuitive and polished. When it comes to handling large assemblies, performance can lag unless you're using high-end hardware, which is often the case in robotics projects. Plus, while file exports are usually dependable, getting models to work seamlessly in simulation or CAM environments sometimes requires a bit of manual tweaking.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When it comes to working on robotic systems, things can get pretty complicated—there are countless parts, precise tolerances, and the challenge of integrating components from various suppliers. That’s where Solid Edge really shines; it cuts through the chaos. Its synchronous technology is a game changer, allowing me to quickly adjust imported parts without getting bogged down in intricate feature trees. This not only speeds up design changes but is essential since we’re constantly making adjustments in our projects.
