simplifying our environment through consolidation of bespoke deveoped apps into Smartsheet
If you're a bit technical, then this is a good PM tool
What do you like best about the product?
You can pretty much do what you need to do in Smartsheet, but you need to be clever and think through how to achieve what you want. The ability to have folder structures is great, you can set up your grids and gantts pretty much how you want and there's plenty of field types to choose from, you can add conditional formats, filters etc. and the report writing options are also good.
What do you dislike about the product?
Everything seems to be quite manual, e.g. in order to build a dashboard you need to write reports for just about every piece of data you want. I did find through Googling that a good way to summarise data from multiple sheets (to be able to use in dashboards) is to set up a project metrics sheet. This is time-consuming and you need to be pretty handy with formulas. I track multiple projects across different regions and years, including status, budget, FTE burndowns, capacity planning, invoices and a whole lot more - rolling 5 year averages etc. To do this, you need to set the project metrics sheet up and again, you really need to be able to write decent formulas to make it all work and get the data you want on your dashboard. I find the dashboard and reporting have limited design options. With that in mind, once you get your head around what you need to do, and you're set up, it works beautifully and I can easily get the information I need and share it accordingly. We don't integrate it with any other tools. It would be good to have a roadmap feature, something that you can design a little nicer than just a Gantt chart, as this is needed in RFPs and SteerCo's etc. and I find myself still having to create them in PowerPoint and updating them prior to each meeting or when I need them, it would be much better to have this in Smartsheet in a format I can control. Similarly with reports, there isn't a nice designer that you can use to make them look halfway decent for the C-suite, so again, I would do this outside of Smartsheet which is double-handling, prone to errors, and immediately out of date. Overall I'm pleasantly surprised, but do watch some YouTube's and tutorials to ensure you make the most of the tool and understand how to make it all hang together (if you're managing multiple projects and want single views of them all, e.g. Program).

Managing single projects for customer onboarding and professional services projects. Managing a global program of work with multiple project managers and projects.

premium apps are still far away from core system reliability and simplicity.

Easy tracking for our global initiaivites and financial budget management
Smartsheet for Research Administration
What do you like best about the product?
I love the automation and collaboration capabilities. We use it for a scheduling approval system as our team schedules are very complex and come from many different funding sources. The use of Dynamic View and Data Shuttle has enabled me to easily update the master sheet with a data download from our organization's database and then confidentially display the results of the reports that are pertinent to their respective managers.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few functionalities that I have wished for during my development of this sheet we use, that do not yet exist on Smartsheet. For example, the ability to display the cell history in a cell that could be displayed in the Dynamic views would be very useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before using smartsheet, I had to meet with all of our managers several times a month to review their team's labor schedules to verify that they were correct and get approval from external stakeholders. By using Dynamic View in Smartsheet, I no longer have to have these meetings and has saved me hours during each month. Managers are able to interact with the sheet via their dynamic view and update, delete or create new lines for the sheet on their own.

What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing aspect can be a challenge to those who are not familiar with the system. We share some of the sheets we use outside of our organization and often receive feedback that they don't have a license and are unable to use the sheet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smart sheet has allowed us to streamline how we house sensitive information and allowed our teams to upload and view documents from different applications all in one safe space.
Smartsheet Can Do More For Your Team
What do you like best about the product?
The organization and tools to keep me organized in my day to day. For technical users like me, the grid view is helpful if you prefer a spreadsheet. For visually minded people, the new calendar and timeline view helps our team keep focused on large projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
There could be more review tools. As a creative, I upload larger files for review for my peers, and markups have to be done outside of Smartsheet. Markup tools in Smartsheet would make our lives a little easier and streamline our work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Project management is vastly easier through Smartsheet. The spreadsheet view of Smartsheet utilizes filters that help organize projects based on customized parameters. This helps me find my current projects, but also helps my project manager to find past projects.
Smartsheets - the best tool for Project Managers
What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheets allows you to collaborate with others and makes real time updates. It's easy to use and familiar UI to other softwares which makes it easy to pick up and feel comfortable with the system. I enjoy it as a RAID (risk, actions, issues, decisions) tool as well as a tool to track timeline's via row or ghant chart.
What do you dislike about the product?
Hard to undo changes or go back to a previous version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a gathering place for both partner and client to solve issues in real time. It's great that it has time stamps and strong documentation. You can add hyperlinks and attachements.
Organized, love the collaboration, reminders, and forms.
What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to create forms for my colleagues and that the information populates into a spreadsheet. I especially love the logic and drop-down features in the forms. On the spreadsheet, the reminder feature is super helpful and the notifications as different people click on different boxes.
What do you dislike about the product?
I actually really haven't found any downsides or glitches. I have thoroughly tested all our logic and e-mail notifications and this has been a great improvement in our processes of sharing informaton.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We specifically use it for the grants coordinator to notify me (accounting) of updating a grantee's information. Because we're a stage agency it's quite involved in whether or not a w-9 is needed etc. In the past, I was just saving e-mails and marking them as unread in my inbox, where now we can track it on the spreadsheet that is populated by the form and I can re-visit when it's convenient for me and mark off boxes as different steps in the progress are made, notifying pertinent people.

You need to study a lot because at times it is very complex.

Organize day-to-day projects, monitore delivery schedules, controlle dates and internal processes.
Useful tool for collaboration of non-proprietary information and tracking.
What do you like best about the product?
I like that I can tie a sheet to a form that can be filled out and it automatically inupts the data. This has been very useful for our team to use to track issues without operations team needing to go in and input data into cells on a sheet. I use multiple sheets tied to forms daily and the ability to add check boxes to indicate items are complete and other such visuals is extremely useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a little tricky to setup if you are not technical. We also are not able to setup with our SSO IDs which presents a data risk so we have to keep the information kept in the sheets to "public" information which has been fine for my use cases. We have not been able to integrate with other systems because of the same data risk, but this has not affected my use cases.
