Great for Basic Use, Needs Excel-Like Shortcuts

  • February 27, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate that Smartsheet acts as a dynamic, updated online tool that avoids the need to resend Excel files after every update. I love how it maintains some of the keyboard shortcuts from Excel, making certain tasks intuitive. I find the reminder feature invaluable for managing long-term tasks, sending me email alerts when needed. Adding notes to lines is intuitive, allowing multiple collaborators to update with timestamps, enhancing teamwork. The affordability and utility of basic features are ideal for our small sales team, making it a practical choice.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find it challenging that Smartsheet's keyboard shortcuts differ from Microsoft Excel, particularly with basic functions like copying and pasting. This inconsistency can be frustrating, especially since I'm used to Excel's interface. Additionally, the limitation on copying and pasting only 500 rows at a time is problematic for my work, especially after an acquisition that increased the number of parts we manage. Also, the control functions for actions like cut and paste aren't always aligned with Excel, which complicates my workflow since I frequently use these features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Smartsheet to easily manage and update our internal price lists without manually sending Excel files, ensuring everyone has current data instantly. It's dynamic and simplifies sharing updates within our sales and customer service teams.

Very useful tool; Permission settings can be frustrating

  • February 27, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I LOVE that I can attach documents and leave comments. I also like that I can link my sheets to dashboards and create reports. I love the card view (though it took me some time to figure out) and the gantt view and I have found the templates to be very useful. I am a huge fan of this sheet that is not a fully functional spreadsheet (for that, I would use Excel) but has great features that Excel (in combination with Microsoft Suite) cannot do.
What do you dislike about the product?
I HATE most of the permission settings--sometimes I want to be able to share limited data (in a dynamic way) with others and I don't like that I have to share the original data source (with all my data) just to see the limited data. Otherwise, I have to publicly share the data source, which I don't like. Using the formulas can also be really confusing and I'm not always sure how to set it up effectively. Or how to lock the data from being edited. Mostly, my grievances with SmartSheet is the permissions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My work is miscellaneous and random, and I needed a way to track the various tasks I do in an effective way. I needed the ability to record my tasks, receive reported instances/events, follow up on them, and track my progress on them using time-stamped, uneditable notes. This was my primary purpose and it has been great for those needs. The main problem that Smartsheet is not solving that I wish it were is reporting back on these tasks and projects without giving visibility to the whole of it.

Smartsheets is amazing for collaboration!

  • February 27, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet allows our team to collaborate in one space. Whether it be status updates, proof reviews, or meeting deadlines -- Smartsheet keeps us aligned. Setting up automation for projects has also been a huge asset. With this, we must be responsible on the project's terms rather than micro-manage all tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think Smartsheet could be better about expanding beyond its current limitations. Regarding design and structure, I wish we had more options like you do in Excel. For forms, I hope that one day you can send emails to those who need a response; only info is required, not a link to the sheet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before Smartsheet, we did everything in separate excel sheets in multiple areas for people to access. You never could track down the most updated version, which required emailing others different versions. With Smartsheet, we can collaborate in one space and see updated project details and who is responsible for each task.

Smartsheet a bit complicated but worth the time to learn

  • February 27, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet's dashboard are extremely thorough and allow for me to display complex sets and ranges of data in simplified ways, with full customization of the visuals. It's like excel on steroids! Plus, it automatically pulls in data changes on my sheets without me having to make a ton of other updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve for Smartsheet was a bit much, but in the end it was worth some of the initial frustrations to get my dashboards set up. Other similar products do not have the flexibility and customization that I have now grown to love in Smartsheet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet allow me to easily share visual representations of our teams' progress and status, both in real time and over time as averages, in an easy to understand way. I am able to give access to all team members as well as stakeholders, create shared forms to intake bug fixes on our projects and quickly track and manage changes in our timelines and resources.

Smartsheet, the best tool for PMs

  • February 27, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet offers a series of automation features that allow you to streamline your work as a project manager. The workflows are efficient and free up my time to focus on program-level activities without getting lost in the 'weeds' of the project.
What do you dislike about the product?
In my experience, there have been times that I assume formulas in Smartsheet mirror excel formulas. This is not always true, and you need to look up the correct documentation in Smartsheet's help center to ensure you've got the correct information.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet tracks routine project management activities that keep projects on time and are managed with good organization. The time I used to spend tracking small deliverables is now freed up to be leveraged working for the project team at large, helping make program-level decisions.

Easy work automatization

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the most helpful things about Smartsheet is that the support offered is not only in English but in other languages as well. It also has a very familiar and intuitive interface, better than Excel, and many resources to increase productivity.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing I dislike is the price. I had my first contact with Smartsheet in the company I work at, then I liked it very much and I wanted to apply to the small business I run in Brazil, but the high prices doesn't make that possible at the moment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps me and my teammates to be on the page and easily follow up on what is happening on our projects. A big problem that was solved with Smartsheet on my team was our database. Smartsheet is a excellent database tool.

Useful shared gantt chart program

  • February 27, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Shared program that myself and other team managers can work on allowing us to plan the broaders company project plans. Microsoft project has issues around how to share it and having more than one person using it at the same time. The online format of Smartsheet resolves a lot of these issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
Our projects are complicated enough to require heavy gantt chart/project planner users so smartsheet has the functionality we need. like any program there are probably a lot more functionality that could be useful to us but we have not dived into that detail. Once again I have not looked for it but educational instructions into different features could be useful (you may already create these)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Project management for management organising multiple projects for work from home team has its issues. Smartsheets online portal has resolved a lot of those issues. It is easy to pick up the basic functionality which as I said before is mostly what we use it for ( one user has dived deeper into its functionality

Smartsheet helps a lot in project management

  • February 25, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Smartsheet is its project management features. It helps me create a project plan and plot its timeline perfectly with the use of dependencies and Gantt view. The use of Reports and Forms also help me a lot in drawing meaningful insights and decisions.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike though is its limited capability in referencing sheets as there is only a maximum number of cells and columns that can be indexed across other sheets. Also, multiple insertion and copying of columns also gives me pains as you can only insert a max of 5 columns at a time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One specific business problems it solves is the automation of approval processes and task updates. It reduces the team's workload in manually updating tasks through workflow automation, making the team more productive.

Smartsheets have made organizing my tasks and deadlines clearer and easier.

  • February 25, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I find that for the tasks I track using smartsheets, the UI is significantly more intuitive than a program like excel. Moving cells and rows around and creating parent/child rows is much easier and quicker imo.

I'm also a big fan of the filter tools and +especially+ the Gantt chart tool. That Gantt has been awesome for organizing tasks over a span of time and has helped me to hit my goals more than once.
What do you dislike about the product?
Something that can occasionally be frustrating is that there's not always an easy way back if something gets deleted. Our team once had an important tracker get deleted by fluke accident, and the only way we were able to get it back was because two people were accessing it at once - we realized that the original sheet was gone and luckily were able to copy it over from the ghost version that was still active in someone's browser. That hasn't happened again but it was a bit harrowing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a way to keep track of complex tasks in real time - what was finished, what was coming up, etc. Smartsheets has been an effective tool for keeping track of those tasks, ensuring that everyone working on a project is able to see not only what they have to do and when, but also how the project is progressing overall - which areas need extra work, which tasks are coming up etc.
