What do you like best about the product?
In my role as an insurance agent, I rely on Smartsheet daily to make updates as new appetites and insurance programs are introduced. Smartsheet has become our primary tool because its ribbons, column headers, and the recently updated vertical sheet navigation on the left side make editing tasks flow seamlessly.
Even if I go some time without accessing certain sheets—like 'Program Appetite Guide', 'New Business Prospects', 'Carrier Contact List', or the various client claim file sheets, each with their own unique content and layout—I find it easy to get back up to speed. Within just a few minutes, I can reacquaint myself with any differences. Smartsheet receives frequent updates, and each one brings new features while preserving the aspects that set it apart from a standard Excel spreadsheet.

What do you dislike about the product?
The permissions required to edit or add new columns sometimes restrict my ability to make changes that I would normally handle during a typical workday. This often means I have to rely on teammates who might not be in the office or actively using Smartsheet at that moment. Additionally, it seems that columns do not retain their resized widths from previous sessions, and any adjustments I make are not saved—unless there is a setting I am missing. This results in extra time spent preparing the sheet before I can actually review the data.
Finally, while this is a minor complaint, I find it a bit discouraging to create a new spreadsheet from scratch. My ideas often don't fit any of the available template suggestions, such as forms, reports, grids, dashboards, or timelines. As a result, I usually end up reusing the same sheet, which can cause the data to become cluttered and overused.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The primary issues this addresses involve organizing information and data from clients, claims, loss details, insurance companies providing coverages, coverage types, and the influx of new appetite materials such as underwriting guidelines, all within a well-integrated environment. This integration streamlines the daily operations of a commercial insurance agency, making tasks easier without interfering with other essential programs like Outlook, the agency management portal, Excel, Teams, Acrobat, or any other tools that might otherwise clutter the workspace. It also enhances my ability to quickly access important details that might have been difficult to locate or would have taken an hour or more to find using separate systems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are plenty of exciting built-in features that contain pre-designed code/programming to get you up and running quicker. You can feel rest assured that knowing the Excel programming language is not required to enjoy using Spreadsheets.
The recent upgrades are amazing!
What do you like best about the product?
We have been using smartsheet for a few years now, and although we do use it to track everything, with the recent upgrades, we have started to use smartsheet for everything. We have new dashboards and master spreadsheets.

I love excel, so I wish it had more excel like features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are tracking a lot of HR related items, including new hires and terms. The new features are allowing us to stay much more organized. We love the feature where every user can create their own filters.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It has a multitude of uses.
A great collaborative tool that is very intuitive if you are familiar with Microsoft Excel
What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy is to create formulas and import excel spreadsheets. I also like their dashboards. It is very easy to collaborate. I also like how it connects to document management systems like box. In addition, I think the generate documents feature is very helpful to create permanent records from a database, easy and quick.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of their capabilities need to be improved: More cells (rows, columns) per sheet. The possibility of assigning dropdown options to several dropdown column in a several sheets is a major limitation in efficiency.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm improving reporting in all of our sites, including reporting from external stakeholders. Also we have information that is collected properly and is complete. Also, we have much better decision-making since we have data converted easily to indicators in a timely manner.
An alternative to Excel

Ability to control permission for each collaborator. The feature ensures privacy as well as limit the risk of unauthorized changes made to the sheets
What do you dislike about the product?
Smartsheet inconveniently requires log-in to MS Teams every time on a secured connection
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smarsheet helps with planning and communicating with others about those plans in real time.
Smartsheet Makes Collaboration and Reminders Easy
What do you like best about the product?
I love how easy the conditional formatting and reminders are that can easily be generated to manage the project effectively. It is very similar to Excel, which is an easy transition for Excel users.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the formulas are a little clunky compared to the flexibility you have in Excel. It limits what you can do in some situations if you are a an avid Excel user and expect those spreadsheet capabilities. Once you realize that this isn't Excel and instead use it as a Project Management tool, it will meet expectations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I run all projects that I manage through Smartsheet. It's an easy way to collaborate and share progress with leaders in the organization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Watch the training videos that Smartsheet has available. They are great quick bites that will help you learn what is possible.

2) Customer support is pretty good
What do you dislike about the product?
1) Many formulae are different from Excel and I often have to google the equivalent formula in Smartsheet.
2) Hard to collaborate in real time because saves are required to update sheets. Would be great if smartsheet could autosave in real time like Excel on sharepoint.
3) Sometimes the answer to questions when I reach out to customer support is that I need to pay extra for a different type of license or a custom-made tool.

Good Alternative for Excel
What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is very useful for our organization because it has online capabilities. We had previously been using microsoft office Excel and it was hard to constantly be saving and resaving the document, to me the best thing about smartsheet is that it is live. It has a much simpler interface than anything on microsoft and is much easier to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Every report must have the exact same information as the master sheet. So if you have different reports that would be better suited to have different information, you need to have separate columns where you document it and then only include the necessary columns. Also, each smartsheet line does not have it's own "number" so if you are referring to a line number and then it gets sorted or rearranged, that line number is irrelevant. If you want to give each line a number, you may do so yourself.
You also cannot have a form edit or reference an existing smartsheet line. I get why you wouldn't have that, so people don't fill out your forms and screw up your data, but I often have to manually reconcile duplicative or redundant data that was supposed to go in another line.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used to have to manually input data from forms and it could be very tedious. The fact that something can be populated on the master sheet is very helpful.
