Would Choose Smartsheet Over Excel Anyday

What do you like best about the product?
The biggest upside of using Smartsheet is the ability to easily share spreadsheets with colleagues and friends. The Layout is very simple and easy to understand. I havent had a bad experience while using the program
What do you dislike about the product?
My only gripe about shartsheet has to be the UI, its can be hard to look at sometimes. Browsing all the spreadsheets I have is only annoying cause the text is small, there isnt a need to show all of the sheets on one singular page.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being ablle to easily share spreadsheet information with colleagues to help projects getting done faster and more efficiently.

Great Capabilities, Takes Time to Customize

What do you like best about the product?
I like that there are many different options for project management. The sky is the limit in terms of what you can do with Smartsheet and it's easy to understand.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a really complicated platform when setting up. If the adminstrator of a Smartsheets business account doesn't have a thorough plan in place, it can get really complicated and not easy to use. Sometimes the look and feel gets confusing as it looks like a big spreadsheet. It also doesn't integrate with a lot of our platforms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the problem of figuring out if a task has been complete or not.

My Smartsheet Review

  • August 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is flexible for many use cases.
What do you dislike about the product?
Clarity on what features users are utilizing. The constant reminders for people to upgrade thier licenses when thier work doesn't require them to have a paid license.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Smartsheet to track tasks for real estate portfolios for several clients. We also use it to manage our mentoring program.

Has useful use cases, but has equal in limitations.

What do you like best about the product?
The forms part of Smartsheet is really useful. You can use a form to add additional rows to an existing sheet, but you cannot edit those rows in a form. So you'd have to go to the row in the sheet and edit it that way, rather than editing it in a form.
What do you dislike about the product?
-You can only paste 500 rows at a time, so copying data from another sheet into Smartsheet is a pain.
-I've had struggles with renaming columns in sheets and having those names carry over to reports. Lots of times those names break the connection and my report come up empty.
-As an administrator, you can't see every resource that is made in your account. So the individuals in my organization can create sheets and reports on their own, and unless it's shared with me I don't have visibility into that until they leave and I take over all of their assets.
-Sheets max out on cells, so it requires multiple sheets of data sometimes to build dashboards.
-To build a dashboard, you have to reference cells in a sheet, so you have to build out a measurement sheet that combines all the individual data sheets to one place, and then build visuals off of that page. It's a nightmare in my opinion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaborating with multiple teams that are not all in our company. Projects are entered by vendors through forms, handled by the project managers, then sent over to finance in the same company.

Smartsheet - Organized, Efficient & Effective

  • August 21, 2024

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate being able to share the sheet with both my team members and others, providing a centralized space for feedback, edits, and reviews. It serves as a one-stop solution for organization, accountability, and effective communication.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's not as user friendly for those who have never used a similar service.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A central hub for all marketing projects for my team of four. Previously, tasks would often go unresolved or get lost in emails, texts, or call discussions. Now, everything is managed in one place, allowing everyone to view and edit simultaneously.

    Civic & Social Organization

Powerful, Functional, Sometimes Clunky, Overall Good

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Smartsheet is powerful and capabable of many things you could want to do. It's able to take data and make it easy to collaborate with teammates and others involved in the work. You can use it as a ticketing system, a Kanban board, a roadmap, etc. A huge win over Excel is the ability to share individual rows of Data...which is really great for helping individuals track specific work or requests related only to their position. We use it everyday.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike several things about Smartsheet, but the biggest pain points are the lake of intuitiveness. It feels like a steroid using version of Excel. It is expensive for non-profits and the marketing to get more licenses is not ideal. There is a University and Help Community, but that implies you have time to go through the rigor of those things. It's not always user friendly and sometimes gets very slow with huge projects or amounts of data. For my company it offers no integrations to the tools we use so integration is hard in our situation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet is helping us solve the age old issue of collaboration among multiple groups, each of which has their own tool. It was the one tool that most people agreed on using. We needed a way to take in tickets/requests, categorize them, assign them to smaller teams, and then also communicate back to the users. Smartsheet has accomplished this for us and also has some Portfolio and Project Management excellence as well.

    Non-Profit Organization Management

Great tool for PMO! Visuals including timeline needs improvement

  • August 21, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use and manage access. Lots of templates to choose from.
it is easy to implement.
Customer support is always available when needed
What do you dislike about the product?
Many visual features are missing and their capabilities.

Timeline has just been introduced which is a great visual tool however it is not avialable to be published as a link or in dashboards.

Licenced users do not use it often. They find that Microsoft Planner has a higher frequency use.

We're missing had good account management to show the ability and ease of integration with other platforms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
easy to use project schedule and workflow to collect a list of responses from a dynamic form.

Outdated application

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very difficult to say. I have mainly negative things to say about Smartsheet.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not user friendly at all, the UX is terrible, difficult to do simple tasks (Even creating a simple to-do workspace between two colleagues) the interface is from the 1990s! The application is glorified MS Excel!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mainly for team collaboration. I use it to stay in sync with the account manager I am aligned with. We assign tasks and follow the progress.

    Information Technology and Services

Basically Google Sheets or Excel with visual enhancements

  • August 20, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of Smartsheet is the collaboration that can be utilized between team members and internal/external integrations. This is similar to what can be utilized by Google Sheets for maintaining streamed interval data updates, but is faster and cleaner.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that is it presented without a distinct UI to separate it visually from Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, in so far as it is just a spreadsheet.

Comparing my use case in Project Management, in Jira the data of course is stored in a database, but is presented in a way to not fatigue me as an end user.

Comparing my use case with investments and finances, there are a lack of display options for currencies and implementation w/ financial systems is difficult without an API. Google Sheets has financial component built in with FINRA compliance.

As a result, I don't frequently utilize Smartsheet and find myself more in either Jira, PowerBI, Zoho Analytics or ServiceNow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet solves the problem of providing visibility to stakeholders in the orginization that do not want to use Jira due to the complexity of understanding user stories and the Agile nature of Epic/Story/Task. I can take an Epic and manually add it to a Project to indicate it as a phase.
