Rundeck Review
What do you like best about the product?
Features like running Ad-hoc commands, centralised management for scheduled jobs and logging user activity are making life easy. Integrations with Slack, Jira, Ansible are useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Scaling is big issue as need to always go for the vertical scaling. No guide to tune it and plan the capacity for job scheduling and debugging/troubleshooting issue is really difficult.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Centralised Scheduling of cron jobs and error handling. Enabling users to execute adhoc commands and compare the output from different instances. Also helps in auditing user activity on multiple stack of servers.
Great product, absolutely terrible pricing changes
What do you like best about the product?
We used this to give certain groups access to do limited work without having to give them the full permissions that would be needed to perform some of these options, the powershell integrations, and especially the SAML authentication were both great for ensuring secure access and execution.
What do you dislike about the product?
When we first bought enterprise, it was reasonably priced with a bulk license per server, we have many individuals that only use this product once a quarter or so, and when they changed the pricing model to per user, per admin, it suddenly because ridiculously expensive in relation to the perceived gain.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helped to realize self service operations for several of our applications, while keeping the technical skill level required low.
Great idea, some great features, could be more user friendly
What do you like best about the product?
the flexibility, configurations and set up can be done in many forms depending on user preferences
What do you dislike about the product?
the wording and look and feel sometimes can be confusing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
empower first line of response, simplicity and visibility of process and tasks
Recommendations to others considering the product:
when stuck consult rundeck support team, if they don't have the answer right away they'll find it for you.
A quick review on Enterprise Rundeck usage
What do you like best about the product?
Rundeck scales up to dispatch commands/jobs to multiple number of nodes at a time and it provides shilding at project level to separate enviroments. It has good HA clustering options. Easy usage and vault option.
What do you dislike about the product?
Rundeck does not have approval mechanism like in Jenkins.
Dashboarding on ROI could have been better.
User management from AD goops should have been simpler
Dashboarding on ROI could have been better.
User management from AD goops should have been simpler
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rundeck can automate any sort of enterprise operational works such as Building infra, Setting up services,Environments and Managing deployments etc,.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
add more features in comparison with Jenkins
Intuitive and Powerful
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to execute simple or complex solutions consistently. Also offers the ability to scale with our environment and fine tune at different levels for greater optimization. Integrates well with our other solutions ranging from VM/Server provisioning, to remediation playbooks.
What do you dislike about the product?
Greater documentation and examples around ruleset executions.
More internal utilities for managing the JVM/App tier. Filesystem logging on data around GC cycles, active heap, and other metadata.
Greater execution audit, the ability to easily search for all executions to a specific node, or by a specific user, all accross mutliple projects.
A rollup count to determine an executions success, IE if a job runs on 100 nodes but failes on 1, the job would show 99% successful instead of 0% successful. Additional runs could bubble equate into the agreggate percentages.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rundeck is a utility we use throughout our enterprise for number of reasons. Executing scripts without logging on to a server is a great add. Add onto it the ability to execute powershell and integrate with powercli and we get a pretty good vm provisioning utility. We use it to rollout software, be it packages, configs, or kernel patches.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get the trial ASAP.
We use rundeck for job scheduling. We have many jobs running on Windows and Unix platforms.
What do you like best about the product?
Existing plugins and easy configuration.
What do you dislike about the product?
Problems with some Plugins. When there are problems with the platform, sometimes the logs are not explicit and we have difficulty identifying the problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Some configurations and problems with plugins, but the Rundeck Support gave us the support we needed to solve them.
Nice Tool
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to compose small chunks of operational tasks into multiple uselful workflows. Gives security, repeatability and visibilty of operations that have been done..
What do you dislike about the product?
it's a little buggy. New releases tend to have quite a few issues especially. best to wait for a few minor versions each time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Generic deployment to thousands of servers globally. Automating rollout of software, rundeck does the heavy lifting of connectivity and audit.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a go, easy startup.
You have a process? Automate it using Rundeck
What do you like best about the product?
Rundeck has helped us in automating some of our manual tasks. This saves our time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Rundeck Admin experience can still become better
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Manual tasks have been automated.
Automation for everyone
What do you like best about the product?
Plugin architecture, cross-platform, log highlighting, complex workflows... they're all there.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing model. Want to make use of delegated running of jobs; need an expensive seat license to do it. How about a simple change? Unlimited job executors, seat-licensed job creators. That'd make continuing with the enterprise license a much easier sell to the bean counters.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coordinating production work between Amazon services, PostgreSQL databases, Windows and Linux servers. Providing ops staff with the ability to do systems operations on databases and production servers. Use AD signon to reduce authorisation complexity for staff.
Rundeck is cool
What do you like best about the product?
Daily automation with powershell or shell script run by rundeck on the target vms.
What do you dislike about the product?
It seems like it is a little behind in some features like SSO and other things
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rundeck has freed up alot of my time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Keep it clean, develop standards, use naming conventions.
