Anaplan for Corporate Planning - Financial Services
What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility to ingest data from multiple source systems, flat files, and quickly produce models. Having the skill set in house to design, architect, and deploy models rapidly allows Anaplan to be a robust option for many corporate projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface offers limited presentation ready options. Working in Financial Services, the branding, formatting, and clean lines are an important factor that are missing. As the user interface becomes more readily available it will help with this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have reduced operational risk and reduced data security by migrating several spreadsheet processes to Anaplan. (Including strategic compensation, revenue forecasting, cash forecasting, accounts receivables, business development pipeline).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is important to select the right consultant for implementation of Anaplan. Although the tool is flexible, having the correct architecture from the start enables future success exponentially. As the company moves towards deployment it is highly recommended to hire internal talent to support and continue expansion throughout the organization. A reliance on 3rd Party Vendor support to expand and drive user adoption often creates disconnected models, inconsistencies with data, and lack of congruence in terms of formatting/functionality because of the bespoke nature of the platform.
Connected planning that automates budgeting and forecasting.
What do you like best about the product?
connectivity with all models and external source. Inputs connected to all other tables. New UX becoming a lot smarter compared to the old UX.
What do you dislike about the product?
lead time to build from scratch and inputting data is considerably slower compared to excel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
siloed departments brought together, reducing amount of time spent on budgeting and forecasting.
Live changes to the figures making an instantaneous update to forecast number.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Anaplan for planning and forecasting company-wide sales and revenue. It helps us consolidate inputs from different teams, regions and tools into a single platform, which makes the planning process more consistent and less reliant on spreadsheets. Before Anaplan, we used Excel, and it was hard to keep everything aligned—especially when we needed to update numbers or run different scenarios. Now we can do that much more easily and quickly. The main problems Anaplan helps us with are 1) Having multiple versions of the forecast/plan and not knowing which is the final one, 2) managing the read/write access to the forecast/plan, 3) when a new scenario modeling was needed, it would take us significant time, 4) loading data into our forecast tool (excel) was a manual and tedious process, 5) Updating presentation decks with the latest forecast/plan
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a platform that requires minimum effort to set-up and can provide the ttols needed for a fully connected planning, then Anaplan is ideal for you.
Scalable tool that is easy to use and adapt in various industries.
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using the platform for a little over 2 years. It is easy to use and very scalable. The tool can be used for a plethora of applications and modeling cases. Anaplan provides a lot of training resources for new users in order to bring them up-to-speed.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Lifecycle Management for the application is a little tricky. For example, if you make multiple changes in the Development environment, you cannot promote just a few of them into production. It is all or nothing. There are ways, though, to get around this limitation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Anaplan for out annual budget process as well as out quarterly forecasting. We have created a few models (Data Hub, OpEx Planning, Project Planning, Workforce Planning), and always looking to expand them. From the first year of using this tool, we have realized tremendous savings in timing from thee submission of the budgets from the departments to the rollup and analysis by FP&A.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Leverage the training that is provided by Anaplan! Additionally, there are several apps that are already created by Anaplan that you can use in order to jumpstart your implementation. If choosing to go with a partner for the implementation, ensure that you are heavily involved in the process and that you receive good documentation of all the modules and models that are built.
Generally very good experiences with Anaplan, constant advancements are encouraging
What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility to build complex models creatively. Options are endless if you know what you're doing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Implementation was difficult, hard to train model builders. Visualizations have been lacking, have seen improvement there on the new UX.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Creating budgets and monthly forecasts across 70+ properties with 100+ people involved in the process. Replaced excel based processes that required lots of manual labor to consolidate. Easy to report anything up to executive committee and external investors in seconds.
Anaplan can be great (with a little effort)
What do you like best about the product?
Our users love the models we built. User acceptance was pretty fast.
What do you dislike about the product?
The standard security is very clunky. It is not designed for large numbers of users (especially with complex selective access) or segregation of duties (think SOX compliance type review). This can be overcome by building a model to manage the security and using integrations to transfer the updates, but does require significant additional work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We do our annual budgeting and continuous (!!) forecasting in Anaplan. We have been able to bring in multiple sources of data from our other key systems using scheduling tools and the native AnaplanConnect API. We send data back to our core GL system and then on to our consolidations engine for complex corporate and regulatory reporting.
Anaplan for Sales Operations
What do you like best about the product?
Anaplan is a leader in connected planning. It can be described as excel or access on steroids. The tool is flexible and scaleable to adapt to any business objective. The tool exposes silos and barriers in the business that are necessary to have during organizational transformation. The best part is the tool is business owned.
What do you dislike about the product?
Reporting is currently undergoing a facelift. They are transitioning to a new UX, which provides improved visuals to display data. Currently, there is now way for the platform to realize the current date. This is on the product roadmap and should be resolved in the near future.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We currently use Anaplan to solve for strategic revenue planning, account segmentation, and Incentive compensation management. My solved for our enterprise account selection by using Anaplan to objectively model and predict customer spend by our company’s products and services. From there, we were able to effectively and efficiently develop new business targets for our accounts, that are transparent with the sales reps compensation targets.
Anaplan is very powerful and flexible platform
What do you like best about the product?
I mostly like the performance and flexibility of the platform. Even if there's no pre-defined funtions, most-everything can be calculated in a custom way. Large amounts of data are calculated quickly in a cloud.
What do you dislike about the product?
Currently downside of Anaplan platform is its way of displaying the final data to multiple users. It often requires to actually store the version of data for each user even for simple summaries instead of calculating them ad-hoc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Anaplan allows our company to get rid of slowly performing Excel planning, yet supplies their platform cheaper than their competitors.
Nice powerfull platform. Be carefull of overusing the flexibility that it offers
What do you like best about the product?
Real time calculation and high performance with large data sets
What do you dislike about the product?
