Get things done with Miro

  • September 07, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I use Miro for pretty much all my user research work activities, from planning to running tests and more recently for presenting research findings to stakeholders. I love the capabilities and ease of being able to collaborate with others via the boards.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I dislike is not being able to allow people with less than a full licence to do more on the boards (other than comment) but this is a restriction of the license and not of the functionality which I love.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting feedback from stakeholders remotely. Working collaboratively with colleagues. Carrying out co-design workshops. All of these things are able to be carried out much more quickly and are better documented by using Miro.

2. Versatility: Miro is not just a digital whiteboard; it's a versatile tool that can be used for a variety of purposes, from brainstorming sessions and project planning to user story mapping and agile ceremonies.

3. User-Friendly Interface: The tool is designed to be intuitive, making it easy for new users to pick up quickly. The drag-and-drop functionality, easy navigation, and straightforward layout contribute to a smooth user experience.

4. Customizable Templates: Miro offers a wide range of templates that can be customized to fit specific project needs. This saves time and ensures that teams don't have to start from scratch for common tasks.

5. Integration Capabilities: Miro integrates well with other commonly used tools like Slack, Jira, and Google Drive, making it easier to incorporate into existing workflows.

6. Accessibility: Being cloud-based, Miro is accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, and it offers mobile applications to make it easy to collaborate on the go.

7. Sticky Notes and Annotations: The ability to add sticky notes, annotations, and comments makes it easier to capture thoughts, feedback, and ideas during collaborative sessions.

8. Visual Elements: Miro supports various types of content, including images, documents, and even videos, making it a rich platform for visual collaboration.

9. Scalability: Whether you're a freelancer, a small team, or a large enterprise, Miro has plans and features that can scale with your needs.

10. Interactive Elements: Features like voting, timers, and cursors that show where each participant is focused add an interactive layer to the collaboration.

These features collectively make Miro a powerful tool for facilitating collaboration and visual thinking, which is why it's popular among professionals in various fields, including product managers.
What do you dislike about the product?
1. Limited Tag Management: The inability to drag tags on cards in a specific order can be a limitation for those who rely on a highly organized system for managing projects or ideas. This could make it difficult to prioritize or categorize information effectively.

2. Lack of Tag Categories: Not being able to create categories for tags can be a drawback for users who require a more structured or hierarchical way to organize their boards. This limitation could make it challenging to filter or sort information based on multiple criteria.

Other general criticisms that some users have about Miro include:

1. Pricing: While Miro offers a free version, some of the more advanced features are only available in the paid plans, which might not be affordable for smaller teams or individual users.

2. Learning Curve: Despite its user-friendly interface, the wide array of features can be overwhelming for new users, requiring some time to become fully proficient.

3. Performance Issues: For boards with a large amount of data or multiple collaborators, some users have reported performance issues like lagging.

4. Limited Offline Capabilities: Being a cloud-based tool, Miro requires an internet connection for most functionalities, which can be a limitation in scenarios where offline access is needed.

5. Feature Overload: The versatility of Miro is one of its strengths, but it can also be a drawback for users who need a more streamlined, focused tool.

Understanding these limitations is important for potential users to gauge if Miro is the right tool for their specific needs and workflow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problems Miro Solves:

1. Geographical Barriers: Miro allows remote teams to collaborate as if they were in the same room, breaking down geographical barriers and making remote work more effective.

2. Information Silos: By serving as a centralized hub for all project-related information, Miro helps in breaking down information silos within organizations.

3. Complexity in Visualization: For roles that require mapping out complex systems, processes, or plans, Miro provides a platform for easy visualization, helping to simplify complexity.

4. Team Alignment: Keeping everyone on the same page can be a challenge, especially in larger teams. Miro's collaborative features ensure that everyone has access to the same information and can contribute to discussions in real-time.

5. Idea Generation and Brainstorming: Traditional brainstorming can be chaotic and unstructured. Miro provides a structured environment where ideas can be easily recorded, organized, and prioritized.

6. Workflow Inefficiencies: Miro integrates with other tools like Slack, Jira, and Google Drive, streamlining workflows and making it easier to move between different phases of a project.

7. Decision-making: By providing a space where pros and cons can be weighed, scenarios can be mapped out, and various stakeholders can provide input, Miro facilitates more informed decision-making.

How These Solutions Benefit me:

1. Increased Productivity: The tool's features are designed to make teams more efficient, from initial brainstorming all the way through to project execution.

2. Enhanced Collaboration: Real-time collaboration features mean that team members can work together more effectively, regardless of where they are located.

3. Better Organization: Features like tags, sticky notes, and customizable templates help in keeping information organized.

4. Time Savings: By centralizing information and allowing for real-time collaboration, Miro can significantly reduce the time spent on meetings and email communication.

5. Strategic Planning: The various canvas and mapping tools available in Miro make it easier to engage in long-term planning and strategy, which is particularly useful for roles like product managers.

6. Flexibility: The wide range of features and integrations means that Miro can be adapted to suit a variety of needs and workflows.

7. Improved Communication: Visual elements like flowcharts and mind maps can make complex ideas easier to understand, improving communication within a team.

By solving these problems, Miro becomes a valuable asset for professionals in various roles, including those in project management, product development, and strategic planning.

Review of MIRO's innovative Platform

  • August 31, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As a software tester, I love MIRO's user-friendly interface during Agile ceremonies like Retro and backlog refinement. It is a great tool for test planning, brainstorming and visualizing complex process like Azure service designs.
What do you dislike about the product?
While its a great tool, it needs familiarity with the visual collaboration process. Sometimes, the behaviour of selecting the set of visuals are hard and branching diagrams are hard as we don't have an option of branching arrows to represent complex decision trees. Also, the cost of MIRO's premium features is a concern for independent professionals
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
MIRO is very helpful when world is now moving towards remote working. It solves problems related to remote collaboration and visualising complex information. It provides a virtual platform for remote teams to brainstorm, plan and review testing and agile process. Therefore, MIRO benefits me in communicating, streamline testing and to facilitate better understanding among team members
