Alteryx Turned Me From Data Janitor to Data Strategist
What do you like best about the product?
The drag-and-drop workflow is intuitive and powerful. I love how it bridges the gap between technical and non-technical users. I’ve trained non-coders in my team to automate complex ETL jobs within a few weeks. The ability to integrate with R and Python is a bonus when I need to go beyond built-in tool
What do you dislike about the product?
1. Licensing Cost
Alteryx is powerful—but expensive. The Designer license alone is costly, and scaling to server or enterprise deployment can get prohibitive for smaller teams or startups. If your company isn’t all-in on automation, ROI might be hard to justify.
2. Performance Bottlenecks on Large Data Sets
While it’s great for mid-sized data, performance suffers when processing large datasets (especially joins and sorts). Unlike SQL engines or Spark-based tools, Alteryx loads most data into memory, so it can choke without enough RAM.
3. Clunky Version Control
No native Git integration or real versioning capabilities. Workflow collaboration feels old-school—like emailing .yxmd files back and forth. In an era of agile and CI/CD, this is a big gap.
4.Workflow Sprawl and Visual Clutter
Complex workflows can quickly become visually messy. Without discipline in using containers, color coding, and annotations, it’s easy to create a “spaghetti flow” that’s hard to debug or maintain.
5. Limited Data Visualization
Alteryx is not a visualization tool. Its built-in charting tools are minimal and not meant for dashboards. You still need to pass data to Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms for rich visualization.

It is very powerful in automation, and most importantly, I don’t need to type any code.

can't connect to SharePoint very well when extracting and loading data on SharePoint

What I appreciate most about Alteryx is its ability to simplify complex data processes through a no-code, drag-and-drop interface. It allows me to quickly blend, clean, and analyse data from multiple sources without relying heavily on scripting.

How easy it makes so easy to analyse data especially visualisations and tabulations.

Learning curve is steep. The availability of official learning video guides is also missing.

It helps visualise, analyse and build stories out if data so easily. It saves a ton of time compared to it’s alternatives especially in time critical industries like consult.

What do you like best about the product?
Alteryx is an amazing tool which we can use to automate the excel solutions. It can send out an email to users by attaching the specific excel or pdf or any other format.
I really like this product because it is saving alot of time by creating views and sending mails everyday. We have used it to generate automatic ppt by just one click.

What do you dislike about the product?
Though this tool user friendly but I felt bit difficult when we dealing with complex workflow. It's bit expensive.
One thing I notice is it takes longer time to run the python script when we compare it to outside python tools.

It helps us to create automations and it saves lot of time. We usually spends lot of time to create ppts and one automation helps us to build multiple ppts. we just need to feed the data. We can easily connect to any data source. It also benefits us to send daily, weekly and monthly reports to user by just one click.

Alteryx is an easily flexible analytics tool, a great learning community and excellent conference! If you are looking for a tool to learn analytics, Alteryx is a great start!

Very poweful business solution with lot of tools to help solve complex business solution for the companny. Upside - Very user friendly

Not that i can think of any as of now. Still exploring mpore to fully benifit the powerful solution

Alteryx is really helping with ETL and automation alsong side with data cleansing to make business decision, reporting much easier. Takes away the no value added taks away so time can be allocated to value added tasks in the department and organization.
